"He'll be back, Anastasia. He will be back" I muttered to myself.

Minutes passed, each one stretching longer than the last. I tried to calm my racing thoughts, focusing on the sounds of nature around me. The leaves rustling, the distant calls of birds, and the occasional snap of a twig underfoot. But the longer I stood there alone, the more the fear began to creep in. I glanced around, trying to catch a glimpse of Regan. I was now anxiously tapping my foot on the ground.

Then, suddenly, another gunshot rang out, much closer this time. I jumped, my breath catching in my throat. Panic started to set in, and I had to force myself to stay calm. Regan had told me to wait, and I had to trust that he would come back for me.

As the minutes dragged on, I hugged my arms around myself, trying to fend off the chill that seemed to seep into my bones. I sat on the root of the tree, waiting. Two hours had already passed, and my nerves were fraying as the shadows grew lon

Regan's POVMy father’s voice softened, “I still don’t understand why you kept him.”“Of course, I did.” I turned to him, my voice sharper than I intended. “He’s my son in every way that matters. I raised him. I stayed when Zarina didn’t. I held him when he cried at night. I taught him how to ride a bike. I sat beside him through every hospital visit. You think blood matters after that?” I shook my head. “He is your grandson, Dad.”He nodded slowly, regret flashing in his eyes. “You’re right. I’m sorry.”I ran a hand down my face, tired. “I kept waiting for the right moment to tell Anastasia. But seeing her today? I knew I missed my chance.”He sat across from me, rubbing his temples. “You have to prepare yourself, Regan. What if she won’t accept Reid?”I didn’t even hesitate. “She’s not that kind of person. She’s not cruel.”My father hesitated, then sighed. “Maybe you’re right. But Zarina... she’s always made me doubt. Especially when it comes to that boy.” He looked up, his voice l

  • The Unwanted Wife   Chapter 198: Scar

Regan's POVThe clock on the wall blinked at 2:47 AM. I leaned back in the chair, fingers steepled beneath my chin, a single lamp casting a golden glow across the dark wood of the desk. The documents in front of me blurred for the third time that night. I tried blinking the haze away, but it didn’t help. The numbers were stable. Profits were up. The Del Valle name — once dragged through the mud, spit on by the media, doubted by our own board — now stood higher than ever before. Two years since the scandal. Seven years since she left. And still… nothing about my life felt better.I sighed and tossed the pen aside, its sharp clink on the wood breaking the silence. I pulled my glasses off, rubbed my eyes, then ran a hand through my hair — and paused when I caught sight of the jagged scar across the back of my left hand.My fingers curled slightly, instinctively. The burn stretched up to my wrist. The skin puckered, uneven and ugly.It happened the night the old mansion burned. Everyone t

  • The Unwanted Wife   Chapter 197: Regan

Regan's POVI watched as the car disappear from the driveway, the red taillights blinking faintly through the thick curtain of rain until they vanished completely. And then I just… stood there. Frozen. The rain roared in my ears, a deafening chorus of thunder and water crashing against the stone path. But I couldn’t hear any of it. Not really. Not over the sound of my heart breaking for the second time in my life. Then I exhaled—shaky, uneven. My throat burned like I’d been holding my breath for too long. I reached up and wiped at my face, but the rain was already doing that for me. I couldn’t tell if it was water or tears anymore. I didn’t really care.I pushed my hair back from my forehead, straightened my spine. Composed myself—at least on the outside. She was here. Anastasia. She came back. Even if just for a moment. Even if to end things. I saw her. I heard her voice. I looked into those damn eyes that never left me—not in my dreams, not in my waking hours.Seven years. Seven lo

“Tell me, why didn’t you sign them?” But I caught myself just as quickly. I didn’t need the reason. Not really. I raised my hand, cutting the air between us. “No. No—forget it. No need. Just sign the damn papers. Right now.”Regan didn’t speak. His hands curled into fists on the desk, knuckles white. His jaw was locked. I could see it—the storm behind his eyes, the way he wrestled with something he still wouldn’t say. But I was done waiting.I shook my head slowly, my voice softer now, but laced with the same edge. “What is wrong with you?”He flinched. Good. Because he should. Still, no answer. Just silence. That damned, heavy silence. I stared at him—really stared. My hands clenched at my sides.“This was supposed to be done,” I said, each word cutting sharper than the last. “I came here to finish what you didn’t have the courage to. I have a life now, Regan. A good life. And I’m not going to let you drag me back into this mess.”He looked up at me again, “Anastasia, I want to explai

I stood there, rain pouring down on us both, the cold numbing my arms. He took one slow step forward as if he just got released on a spell. His eyes never left mine.“Come inside,” His voice was hoarse. “Let’s talk. You’re going to get cold from this”I hesitated at first. My fingers tightened slightly around the handle of my bag, knuckles whitening for a brief second. My gaze held his for just a beat longer. And then, without a single word, I turned around, back inside. I didn’t look back to see if he followed, but I heard the shuffle of wet footsteps trailing behind me. Reila stayed rooted in the hallway, lips parted like she wanted to say something but didn’t.Regan's voice came low behind me, “Maribel, get a change of clothes. Towels. And coffee.”“I don’t need it,” I said flatly, still walking forward. “I’m fine.”But I heard the order goes through anyway. The hallway stretched ahead of us. My heels echoed softly on the polished floors as I walked, past antique paintings and cold

My heels echoed as I moved forward, spine straight, eyes ahead. I was back. And I wasn’t the same girl who left. The maid hurried toward the living room. I followed my steps slower — measured — because I still knew every corner of this house. The hallway. The turns. What I didn’t expect — what hit me the most — was the absence of something. There were no family pictures. Not a single one. The walls were bare except for paintings. No happy frames. No wedding photos. No awkward childhood portraits of Regan like the ones Caroline used to brag about. I ignored it. Or at least, I tried to. It wasn’t my concern anymore. But the curiosity—it still lingered like dust you can’t quite wipe away. Then I heard it. “M-miss Reila, she’s here.” The maid’s voice, hesitant. And then came a voice I recognized. “Who?” When I stepped into the living room, she was already on her feet. Reila. Her hair was styled in soft waves, her dress dark green and elegant — classic, of course. Her post
