I looked away, trying to focus on another guest who had come to speak with us. The woman, a socialite named Mrs. Harrison, was animatedly discussing their latest charity event.

"Anastasia, you simply must join us next month. It’s for a wonderful cause. We’re raising funds for children’s hospitals."

"That sounds lovely. I’ll see if I can make it."

Meanwhile, Regan seemed distracted, his eyes constantly darting around the room. He barely acknowledged Mrs. Harrison’s husband, who was talking about his new business venture.

"...and that’s why we’re investing heavily in renewable energy," Mr. Harrison was saying. "It’s the future, don’t you agree, Regan?"

Regan snapped back to attention. "Yes, absolutely," He glanced at me, then back at the door.

Mrs. Harrison looked at Regan with concern. "You seem a bit preoccupied, Mr. Del Valle. Is everything all right?"

Regan cleared his throat, his face flushing slightly. "I apologize, Mrs. Harrison. Just a lot on my mind at the moment. Excuse me fo

  • The Unwanted Wife   Chapter 197: Regan

Regan's POVI watched as the car disappear from the driveway, the red taillights blinking faintly through the thick curtain of rain until they vanished completely. And then I just… stood there. Frozen. The rain roared in my ears, a deafening chorus of thunder and water crashing against the stone path. But I couldn’t hear any of it. Not really. Not over the sound of my heart breaking for the second time in my life. Then I exhaled—shaky, uneven. My throat burned like I’d been holding my breath for too long. I reached up and wiped at my face, but the rain was already doing that for me. I couldn’t tell if it was water or tears anymore. I didn’t really care.I pushed my hair back from my forehead, straightened my spine. Composed myself—at least on the outside. She was here. Anastasia. She came back. Even if just for a moment. Even if to end things. I saw her. I heard her voice. I looked into those damn eyes that never left me—not in my dreams, not in my waking hours.Seven years. Seven lo

“Tell me, why didn’t you sign them?” But I caught myself just as quickly. I didn’t need the reason. Not really. I raised my hand, cutting the air between us. “No. No—forget it. No need. Just sign the damn papers. Right now.”Regan didn’t speak. His hands curled into fists on the desk, knuckles white. His jaw was locked. I could see it—the storm behind his eyes, the way he wrestled with something he still wouldn’t say. But I was done waiting.I shook my head slowly, my voice softer now, but laced with the same edge. “What is wrong with you?”He flinched. Good. Because he should. Still, no answer. Just silence. That damned, heavy silence. I stared at him—really stared. My hands clenched at my sides.“This was supposed to be done,” I said, each word cutting sharper than the last. “I came here to finish what you didn’t have the courage to. I have a life now, Regan. A good life. And I’m not going to let you drag me back into this mess.”He looked up at me again, “Anastasia, I want to explai

I stood there, rain pouring down on us both, the cold numbing my arms. He took one slow step forward as if he just got released on a spell. His eyes never left mine.“Come inside,” His voice was hoarse. “Let’s talk. You’re going to get cold from this”I hesitated at first. My fingers tightened slightly around the handle of my bag, knuckles whitening for a brief second. My gaze held his for just a beat longer. And then, without a single word, I turned around, back inside. I didn’t look back to see if he followed, but I heard the shuffle of wet footsteps trailing behind me. Reila stayed rooted in the hallway, lips parted like she wanted to say something but didn’t.Regan's voice came low behind me, “Maribel, get a change of clothes. Towels. And coffee.”“I don’t need it,” I said flatly, still walking forward. “I’m fine.”But I heard the order goes through anyway. The hallway stretched ahead of us. My heels echoed softly on the polished floors as I walked, past antique paintings and cold

  • The Unwanted Wife   Chapter 194: “Anastasia”

My heels echoed as I moved forward, spine straight, eyes ahead. I was back. And I wasn’t the same girl who left. The maid hurried toward the living room. I followed my steps slower — measured — because I still knew every corner of this house. The hallway. The turns. What I didn’t expect — what hit me the most — was the absence of something. There were no family pictures. Not a single one. The walls were bare except for paintings. No happy frames. No wedding photos. No awkward childhood portraits of Regan like the ones Caroline used to brag about. I ignored it. Or at least, I tried to. It wasn’t my concern anymore. But the curiosity—it still lingered like dust you can’t quite wipe away. Then I heard it. “M-miss Reila, she’s here.” The maid’s voice, hesitant. And then came a voice I recognized. “Who?” When I stepped into the living room, she was already on her feet. Reila. Her hair was styled in soft waves, her dress dark green and elegant — classic, of course. Her post

I wasn’t even sure how I got here. One moment, I was in Sydney — waking up to the sound of Atticus and now—now I was back where it all started. Back where everything fell apart. Inside the car, my fingers wouldn’t stay still. They tapped against my thigh, gripped the hem of my coat like they were looking for something to hold onto. I inhaled. Exhaled. But the air felt heavier here. Damn. God, I wanted to go home. I wanted to turn the car around, call Ava, call Phoenix, say I changed my mind, say I’ll deal with the papers another time — next week, next year, never. Because walking into that house again wasn’t just about Regan. It was about every version of myself I left behind. Every tear, every silence, every time I tried to hold on when I should’ve let go. “Ma’am?” the driver asked, pulling to a stop just outside the massive gate. I blinked. “Yeah.” My voice sounded foreign. Too calm for how loud everything was inside me. I looked up at the mansion once more, at the familiar

I remembered what my therapist said back then. That what I had wasn't just a fear, not just stage fright or a simple case of grief. She called it “trauma-linked motor inhibition.” That the moment my world collapsed, my body protected itself by shutting down anything that reminded it of pain—and for me, that meant the piano. It was my safe space… until it wasn’t. She told me I might never play again. That sometimes, the body remembers before the mind can process. That music, especially something tied so closely to my identity, could trigger a flood of everything I wanted to forget. But then Atticus came. My miracle. The therapist said something shifted. A “positive sensory association,” she called it. She said I rewired my own trauma—unknowingly, slowly—through him. That my brain, once trained to fear the keys, started associating them with peace again. Because every time I played and he stopped crying, I was healing. Bit by bit.It all started when he wouldn’t stop crying when he was
