Annika’s POV
In the chant of the black night, the stars were the choir, they were nights singing in an unusual pattern, singing a tone of death. Few minutes past ten, the once-cleared skies had transformed into a vast expanse of jet-black as the night laid down in a blanket of darkness.
Annika tilted her head skyward and she could see millions of stars beautifying the dark sky. The bright moon illuminates his light across the sky, down to earth. Annika wished she was a star, rather than a moon. She wished her life was so bright it would illuminate that of others.
A lone tear dropped from her eyes as she held on to the can of beer in her hand. She raised it up to the sky as if giving the sky cheers.
“If people do truly become stars when they die, let me become the brightest one” She raised her palms up, brought them together in a self-motivated prayer.
Annika smiled bitterly at her sad destiny. She wished things would’ve been different. She wished she hadn’t come back at the time she did. If she had stayed back a little bit, things would’ve been different. She picked up the last can of beer and gulped down the whole content without batting her eyes.
She thought if she changed her mind at the end, the alcohol would control it. She stood up from the edge of the bridge, held the railing tight as another bout of tears tore through her throat and she had to swallow hard to stop herself from wailing.
TWO HOURS AGO
Annika walked out of her last class for the day as the first person. She didn’t want to mingle with others because she was shy. Still, she was smiling widely like almost every other student. She was glad that the professor had not turned up for the class and she was ready to go home to meet her mother after she had been on a trip for months.
“Ann, don’t tell me you’re on your way home? We still have three hours to ourselves friend” Her best friend, Galina hugged her shoulder as they got closer to the halls.
“You know my mom will finally be around after three months. I can’t wait to see her” she grinned happily.
“Okay, mama’s girl. You should go see your lovely mom, I wouldn’t stop you,” Galina threw her hand up in total surrender.
“I’ll tell her you called her lovely”
“Maybe that’ll make her love me more, I guess. Since she doesn’t want to see me anywhere around you”
“She’s just being protective of me,” Annika defended her mom.“If you say so, Ann. but, I hate to break it to you that you’ll be missing out a lot. I and Brad are going to the electrics today. The Electric boys would be performing and Будет весело и потрясающе” {T: It’ll be fun and amazing}
“Meeting my mother after such a long time is so much fun. I also have something important to tell her” She explained.
Galina knows all of Annika’s secrets, both dark and funny. She knew what Annika was hinting at and she has waited for so long for her to get justice.
“Call me as soon as possible, I want to see him locked behind bars. Okay, girl?” Annika nodded and the two girls hugged, ready to depart.
“I’ll record some videos for you especially that of VT, I know you love his face” Galina winked at her before rushing away.
Annika watched as her childhood best friend ran off to meet her boyfriend. She smiled thinking she was lucky to have a friend as amazing as Galina. She turned and began her journey towards home, towards the hurt that made her decide not to live anymore.
A wide smile made its way to Annika’s face as she saw her mom’s car parked right in front of their house. She hadn’t smiled that brightly in months and she was glad her support system and her confidant were back in her life.
She had tried so hard to tell her about it on the phone but she doesn’t want her mother to get worried, so she kept it to herself for months even though it happened more than twice. She endured, hoping her mother would get justice for her.
The front door was slightly opened and she frowned at the careless action. Before she could open her mouth to caution her mother as she walked into the house, the mention of her name made her stop on her tracks just a step away from the kitchen door.
“Annika might tell you about it when she gets back. I heard her telling her friend on the phone the other night” Annika’s stepfather informed her mother.
“If she had endured it for that long, I guess she also enjoyed it. So, why wait for me to return before taking any actions?” her mother laughed and Annika’s heartbeat increased rapidly. Her fingers began shivering and she hoped she didn’t hear what she had just heard.
“I don’t know but what will you tell her once she informs you?”
“Don’t worry about that honey. I’ll sort her out before she can open her filthy mouth to the police”
“Talking of filthy, I kinda miss her mouth”
“That should stop already. I only gave you access to my daughter so that she can fill my position for the time being, not for you to own her completely”Annika gasped as tears rolled down her eyes. She used her hand to cover her mouth so as not to let them notice the interruption.
She must have heard wrong! She kept on convincing herself.
“Annika,” the sudden call of her name made her raise her head from the floor, and with eyes widen, her mother looked at her.
“Annika, what are you doing back home so early? Why are your eyes….. Did you hear everything?”
“I heard everything you said, everything”
Before her mother could say anything else, Annika ran out of the house. The first she did was throw her phone away. She had always contemplated suicide for the past three months but she couldn’t because she always thought of her mother but now, nothing else matters, no one else matters.
TWO HOURS LATER
The broken girl held the railings and leaped to the other edge of the bridge, without a partition to the large body of water. At the other end, she saw a figure, it wasn’t clear but she could see it was a man, dressed in black. She tried getting a better look but she stopped herself and cautioned herself from getting distracted.
She felt something was watching her from behind and when she turned, she saw it was a black vulture, perching on the railings. She could see its white eyes and red eye rings, rolling repeatedly.
Annika swallowed hard as fear gripped her to her bones.
“Shoo,” She tried chasing the vulture away. The vulture flapped his feathers and flew away as she wanted.
As she heaved a deep sign of relief, a dark memory came to her and for the last time, a lone tear dropped from her eye. She let go of the railings and jumped right into the water.
She wanted to be free! That was her only wish.
AndroThe hem of a skirt was the first thing I saw. She was moving, no, she was running and this time, I could see her face properly. She was crying. She suddenly stopped when it started raining to get cover and before long, the dream had changed, she was moving again. Walking so slow it could affect the night. She entered a night store and got some beer before walking out of the door. The next thing I saw was her sitting on the edge of the bridge, resting her back against its railing, looking up to the sky as a lone tear dropped from her eyes. The sudden interruption of my phone’s ringing tone woke me up unexpectedly. I sat up and looked around me as confusion set in. I soon realized I was still in my office, waiting for some of my boys to get back with the details of the job I sent them.I’ve always dreamed about this particular girl but not for once had I seen her face, this is the first tim
AnnikaThe morning light permeated into the room through the windows blind and settled on my face. I quickly dragged the blanket over my head properly to stop the light from blinding me. I shut my eyes tightly to force myself back to sleep and hissed at my stupidity of forgetting to close the window blind before sleeping the other night. My eyes suddenly opened wide on their own as the events of the other day began to rush back into my memory.I left school early to meet up with my mother and I overheard her talking to my stepfather about all he has done. I remember standing on the edge of a bridge and the last thing I can remember vividly was dropping into water and allowing it to drown me.I stood up from the bed hurriedly and checked my surroundings. ``Where am I? Why am I still alive?” What is wrong with me? Is this afterlife?’Different questions
AndroI was in the middle of a meeting with another Mafia boss in my home office when I smelt blood. I would've stood up to check whatever it was but I knew it'll be a sign of disrespect to the man I was having that meeting with."The Anglos will gain nothing if they decide to tamper with my family. I won't hesitate to kill them," Igor yelled at no one in particular. In this town, three mafia families rule. Two are like kings while the third family is trying hard to compete with the first two and if possible, clear them out so they can take the throne.I've been friends with Igor for years. It's better to make your enemy a friend so you can also monitor his moves. But since the Dimitri Family got into the system, that phrase has appeared difficult.Igor and I are the first two Mafia lords while Dimitri Anglo is the young, naive, and stupid Mafia who won
Annika"A vampire,"The word kept on ringing repeatedly in my head. This must be a joke, an expensive joke at that."Are you joking?" I asked him."No, I'm serious," He replied. I began laughing hysterically. It wasn't possible. I can't be a vampire, I'm human. I stood up from the floor and walked towards the mirror. I could see my reflection and it appeared human to me. I might look pale but I'm not a dead being."You're lying," I told him.He walked up to me and showed me that spot in my hand."How do you explain this then?" He asked.Dumbfounded, I asked, "Why did you do that?""You didn't deserve to die that way," he explained and I laughed.I laughed so hard the tears started coming out of my face again."You should have let me decide that, you don't have any right to do that to me. Do you hear me? Yo
AnnikaI threw the box to the floor as panic washed over me. I sprang up from the bed and walked quickly into the bathroom. As soon as I got to the sink, I opened the faucet and began rinsing my mouth.Dipping my finger into my throat to vomit the poison I just drank wasn't worth it. I kept on groaning for minutes, hoping it'll come out but still, it didn't.What have I done? I asked myself."You need to stop hurting yourself?" Andro pulled my hand before I could push my finger down my throat again."Stop," I yanked my hand away from his loose grip.He didn't hesitate before he grabbed my hand again in a tight grip this time and angrily pulled me towards the room and made me sit on the bed.The shirt I was putting on was drenched with water. I could care less about that. My fingers were shaking, my legs won't stop tapping against the
Andro"Igor wants us to attack Dimitri," Stefan informed me.We were in the study room alongside Fabi and Alek, two of my best men. They had just gotten back from a meeting they had with Dimitri and Igor.I should've attended the meeting but it wasn't necessary and unsafe for others, especially Igor. The last conversation we had ended in a bad state so I couldn't trust myself not to hurt him if he said one more disgraceful thing."He wants us to take a side," Fabi corrected him."It's almost the same thing, if we side with him, that'll be us getting ourselves involved in his attacks and if we don't, we'll also be at the receiving end of the attack" Stefan explained further.Alek was silent as usual. His back was against the wall and he was looking at everyone intensely."What do you think, Alek?" I asked him, hoping he'll say something."What do you want to do, bo
AnnikaMy senses regained, thirst satisfied, I removed my hand from Andro's neck and my lips from his. I also removed my body from him and moved further away on the bed.I was panting.Andro hadn't moved from the spot, his knees on the bed and his hands beside him. He was recovering from the shock as much as I was."I'm sorry I did that," he smirked."I'm glad you did," I raised my eyebrow at his response, hoping he'll explain further but he didn't.He came closer to me and placed his open palm in front of me."Do you want more?" He asked and I nodded. "Help yourself out then, Malyshl""Won't it affect your health?""That's very considerate of you, Annika but no, it won't. It's just for today" he replied.I took a hold of his large palm and placed my lips on his blood. As the blood met
AndroOnce I was done with work, I stood up from my chair and left the study room. I don't usually work late but one of our warehouses was getting a major supply and I had to monitor the importation of the goods. The family couldn't afford a loss, it'll have a great effect on us.I walked into the kitchen and brought out the food Caroline had left for me from the microwave. Even though the equipment was off, the food was still warm. I dipped the fork in and started eating.Caroline has always been helpful with cooking and cleaning around. She had always disagreed with hiring a helper, she felt she could repay me for what I did for Fabi. She believed pulling Fabi out of the gang he had gotten himself into was the best thing I'd even done for them. Fabi couldn't agree less. After eating, I dropped the plate in the sink, washed my hands, switched off the light,
