Nevaeh looked at me oddly, as Beta Daniels put me into my cage. I knew she wanted to know why I was in a robe. My face flushed red with embarrassment. I didn’t want her to know that the wolves found me sexually appealing, and viewed me as a conquest. It was bad enough seeing Nevaeh get groped by Diego, I didn’t want her to think I was getting special treatment.

Beta Daniels locked my cage, and walked out towards the front of the office. The auction was about to begin. I could hear him speaking to a crowd over a microphone.

Nevaeh looked at me questioningly again.

“I’m too big for my bikini.” I whispered to her, opting into telling her a half truth.

“Oh.” She mouthed.

I reached down into the corner, where I had hidden my locket, and put it back around my neck.

“I promise you Anya, I will get chosen today, and. I will avenge you.” I whispered to my self bringing the locket to my lips.

There was a loud banging noise and I knew the auction had begun. The capture had grabbed the first girl out of her cage and dragged her out of the room onto the stage. I could hear the crowd roar in delight.

Her auction went by quickly, the banging of the next cage being opened, indicating they were already ready for the next girl. I felt my heartbeat start to accelerate, I was nervous for the unknown but I knew whatever my future held it had to be better than being stuck here with the wolves.

The first seven girls were auctioned off quickly, not a single one was returned back to their cell, and I could tell the wolves were getting giddy with how much money they’d already acquired from the sale.

“If you’re not chosen today, you’ll be given to our Alpha.” Diego hissed into Bethany’s ear as he pulled her out of the cage.

Bethany let out a whimper as Diego pulled her through the door onto the stage. It was eerily quiet. I couldn’t hear anything from the crowd, there was no cheering, no hissing. Nothing.

“Do we have any takers for this exotic blond beauty from the southern isles?” Beta Daniels spoke.

Silence followed and I heard Bethany let out a wail. Her crying grew louder as she was dragged back into her holding cell.

“Please.” She begged. “Please give me one more chance.”

“You belong to the Alpha now.” Beta Daniels growled. “Diego, when the auction is over, you’re in charge of transporting the blond to the pack grounds.

“No,” Bethany wailed. “I’d rather die that be given to one of you,” she shrieked, Spitting at Beta Daniels face.

The Beta reached his hand through the gates and grabbed Bethany around the throat, squeezing her tightly, silencing her wails.

“If the Alpha doesn’t want you bitch, you’ll be mine, and you’ll regret spitting in my face.”

Bethany let out a whimper as Beta Daniels released her from his hold, throwing her onto the damp cell floor.

While this was all progressing, Diego had dragged Nevaeh from her cell and onto the auction floor, as they say the show must go on.

Nevaeh’s auction lasted longer than the other girls. I felt my heart start to race again, my breathing accelerating. The edges of my vision began to blur, and I knew I was on the verge of a panic attack.

“Come on Mary.” I muttered under my breath. “Get your shit together. Breathe Mary, Breathe. Count backwards from ten. 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1” I felt my pulse start to slow down, my breathing returning to normal. Counting backwards was a trick my mother had taught me, and it always seemed to work to calm my nerves.

The crowd let out a loud cheer, interrupting me from my thoughts. Nevaeh had been sold to the highest bidder. My turn had come.

Beta Daniels walked over and unlocked my cage. “Follow me” He growled. I followed closely behind him as he led me out of the holding cell and past the washroom, we took the first door on the left, and walked onto a makeshift platform, a curtain hanging down, shielding me from the crowd.

“Strip.” Beta Daniels commanded.

I slowly took off the robe, making sure to keep my back to him, hoping my hair covered my locket. As soon as my robe dropped to the floor the curtain was lifted. Bright lights were aimed straight at me, I couldn’t see into the crowd, but i could feel the gazes of everyone starring at me.

“How much for this temptress?” Beta Daniels asked. I flinched at the name.

“ 100 jewels.” Came a voice from someone sitting up front.

“200.” Came another voice.

“500” Hollered another.

The room was silent for a moment.

“500 going once, 500 going twice, Sold to Lord Issacson,” Beta Daniels announced.

I felt my heart skip a beat. I had been sold.

“ I want her.” Came a loud snarl.

Everyone in the crowd grew silent.

“Your…Your highness.” Stumbled Beta Daniels, bowing down onto his knee. “We weren’t expecting you tonight.”

“ I want her,” the Vampire King said again. “She is mine.”

“But your highness. She’s already been sold.” Beta Daniels spoke timidly.

“ I don’t care. I want her.” He responded. “ What the king claims, the king gets.” He hissed as he walked down towards the stage. He threw a bag filled with Jewels at Beta Daniels.

The Beta opened up the bag and his eyes went wide.

“This should cover her expense and your troubles.” The king spoke to Beta Daniels, looking straight at me. I felt like his eyes were looking into my soul.

“Come here.” He called to me.

My legs were shaking, as I stepped towards the Vampire King. I tripped over a cord, and tried to brace myself for the fall, except the fall never came. The Vampire King had caught me. For the first time, since the hunters came I felt safe. I looked up at the king and watched as his eyes flashed from a beautiful cerulean blue to a deep blood red. This was the power of the vampire. They made the perfect Predator, everything about them was so warm, so inviting, willing the prey to them. Once the prey was within their reach, they’d pounce, attacking and killing their prey.

I let out a shiver as I remembered just how frail my life was in the hands of the king.

“Get her something to cover herself.” The king growled.

“Ye..Yes. Your highness.” Stammered Beta Daniels.
