Chapter 3

Autor: Liora Z
"Aveline?" Ophelia looked surprised. "Why are you in the Lord’s private chambers?"

I instantly pulled Liam behind me. Before I could speak, Bastian cut in.

"They were just staying here temporarily," he said, his voice cold and distant. "She’s my employee, after all. Just a temporary arrangement."

Employee.

The word pierced my heart like a silver stake.

A six-year blood pact and a child, and we were still just boss and employee to him.

Just then, Liam, with tears in his eyes, spoke up first.

"Hello, Lord Thorne." His voice was shaking but clear. He even gave a perfect vampire bow. "Mom, let’s go."

It felt like someone had just crushed my heart.

My son. My sweet six-year-old boy, choosing to call his own father "Lord Thorne."

"Let’s go, baby." I forced a smile and grabbed Liam’s hand tight.

As we passed them, Bastian suddenly grabbed my arm.

"What did he just call me?" he asked, sounding shocked and in disbelief.

"Lord Thorne." I gave a mocking laugh. "Isn’t this what you’ve wanted for six years? Liam is just drawing the boundary you never had the guts to."

A messy mix of emotions flashed in Bastian's eyes. "Give me a few days to explain..."

"Explain what?" I glared at him. "Ophelia is waiting. Don’t keep her."

He let go, completely reluctant. I dragged Liam forward without missing a beat.

Right by the door, Bastian called out to us.

"Wait." He pulled out a fancy cake box. "Happy late birthday, Liam."

Ophelia suddenly chimed in. "Wait, isn’t that the cake you bought me yesterday?"

The air in the room froze.

Liam looked up at me, the last bit of hope draining from his eyes.

"It’s fine," he whispered, trying way too hard to be mature. "Can we... share it?"

Bastian nodded. "Of course."

I took the box, opened it, and cut a small slice.

Out of habit, I leaned in to smell it. My smile vanished.

"Liam, get back!" I swatted the cake out of his hands in pure panic, sending it crashing to the floor.

"Are you crazy?!" Bastian snapped.

"It’s a Blood Brew cake!" Tears streamed down my face. "It’s poison to half-bloods! It would have destroyed his veins, Bastian! It could have KILLED him!"

Bastian’s face went dead pale.

Blood Brew was a pureblood delicacy, but it was pure poison to half-bloods.

"I didn’t know... I didn’t think..." His voice trembled, all of his signature elegance completely gone. "I’m sorry. I really didn’t know..."

Liam stared at the smashed cake on the floor. His hope was completely dead.

He buried his face in my chest and whispered, "It’s okay, Mom. He couldn’t have known."

That simple sentence was more lethal than any accusation.

I scooped up my son without a second thought and marched toward the door.

"Aveline, wait!" Bastian chased after us. "Let me explain..."

"No need." I didn't even look back. "From now on, we won’t bother you anymore."

This time, facing Bastian’s panicked and regretful stare, we didn't flinch.

The next day, I cleared out my lab at the company.

Research data, recipe notes, lab gear—I packed it all.

Finally, I left the signed blood pact dissolution contract dead center on my desk.

"Mom, are we really leaving?" Liam stood quietly by my side.

"Yes." I knelt down and hugged him. "We’re going somewhere new to start fresh."

"Will there be a dad there?"

"Yes." I stroked his hair. "A dad who actually loves us."

We headed to the underground supernatural terminal on the edge of the city.

The night flight to Europe glowed with a faint blue light.

I pulled out my phone and permanently deleted Bastian’s number.

I cut him out of my life completely—severing every tie on every channel, both magical and mundane.

"Ready, Liam?"

"Ready, Mom."

The cabin doors closed, and we vanished into the night.

...

At 9 AM the next morning, a restless Bastian showed up at Evernight Biotech right on time.

He went straight to Aveline’s lab and pushed open the familiar door.

An empty room. Spotless lab tables.

Two documents sat in the dead center of the desk.

Bastian walked over. He froze the second he saw what they were.

"Resignation? Blood pact dissolution?"

I spent five years trying to get close to Bastian, only for him to destroy all my effort with six years of emotional abuse. To keep things civil, I forced a polite smile and opened the door."Have a seat." I walked to the kitchenette. "You must be thirsty."I poured him a glass of premium living vintage. His favorite flavor profile.Bastian took the glass, his eyes lighting up instantly."You remembered," his voice was so gravelly it broke. He looked like a drowning man grabbing at straws."Force of habit." I smiled faintly and sat across from him. "Six years is a hard habit to break.""Aveline, let's go home." Bastian set the glass down. "I admit I handled things badly before, but...""I only want full custody of Liam," I cut him off, straight to the point. "Everything else—your money, your status—keep it. I don't want any of it."Bastian slammed the glass onto the coffee table."Who is this guy?!" he finally roared, losing control. "You broke a blood bond for some random bastard?!""

Bastian stayed on that cold floor until dawn.It was the first time in centuries he had let himself look this pathetic. Before, no matter how late he got back to the estate, there was always warm blood and someone waiting for him. Now, the massive manor was totally empty. At the darkest hour of the night, Bastian shot up and stormed into his secret chamber. He flipped through ancient, forbidden vampire grimoires, looking for a tracking spell. If Hanson said she was in Europe, he’d flip all of Europe upside down. He had to find them. He had to find this "husband" who popped out of nowhere!Bastian bit his wrist, letting his blood drip onto the crystal ball. Pureblood magic flared, burning with an eerie red glow.He was going to track the blood residue she left on the severance papers and lock onto Aveline's exact magical coordinates.Their blood was connected. Even if she ran to the ends of the earth, he would find her.He used to want to wipe away the "stain" of their bond, but he

Bastian barely survived the disastrous banquet. He stumbled back to the estate, drunk and messy. The alcohol burned in his veins. The usually elegant, controlled ancient vampire was a total wreck. He rubbed his temples, his body instinctively craving the scent of Aveline's blood to calm his nerves. Its sweet, metallic scent had always been his natural sedative. But nothing answered him. Just dead silence.Instead of going to the main house, his legs carried him to the annex. This used to be Aveline and Liam's place. The rooms were stripped bare. Erased. Not a single trace of them remained. It finally hit him. Aveline really took Liam and left. It wasn't a tantrum. It wasn't a threat. She was just gone.Bastian stumbled into the living room, his balance off. Then, he noticed a piece of paper left on the coffee table. It was Liam's family portrait. In crayon, the three of them stood holding hands. The Bastian in the drawing was smiling warmly, holding Aveline's hand tight, while Liam

At 6 PM, Bastian arrived at Lord Valerius's estate with Ophelia. The full moon banquet was the ultimate networking event for the clans. Tonight, the room was packed with the highest vampire nobility.Bastian held a crystal glass of premium synth-blood, zoning out while Valerius talked about the new territory treaties. He hadn't seen Aveline all day. Instinctively, he reached out through the blood bond to find her, but hit a wall of dead, silent nothingness. The bond was really gone."Bastian, are you listening?" Valerius frowned. "About the tech-sharing for the North Zone blood banks...""Of course." Bastian forced himself to focus. "The Thorne Clan's synthesis tech has always been the gold standard.""Speaking of which, I've always wondered," ancient Lord Cassian walked over. "I heard your Chief Hematologist is a human? Quite an unexpected choice."Before Bastian could answer, Ophelia's shrill voice cut in."God, what is this garbage?" She glared at her glass in disgust. "Cheap, mass

Bastian stared, dead-eyed, at the desk. His mind was a void. Right there sat the Blood Bond Severance pact and her resignation letter. His blood, now dry on the parchment, sealed the contract. It was done.He had signed it last night without even looking.Ripping away a six-year blood bond took its toll. An empty, hollow ache throbbed in his veins, protesting the severed tie.He had just cut their six-year bond with his own hands."My Lord!"His assistant burst into the lab, sweating bullets and clutching a thick report."My Lord, it's a catastrophe! The new batch of premium synthetic blood is a total failure," his voice trembled. "Without Dr. Mercer, the entire core production line at Eternal Night Biotech has collapsed! We're about to default on our supply to the Three Great Clans of North America!"Bastian snatched the report, flipped through a few pages, and slammed it onto the desk."Is the lab full of idiots?" his voice was ice. "You can't even handle basic blood purification?"
