Chapter 4

Vanessa followed me to the master bedroom.

When the door opened, the first thing she saw was the boxes Ingrid had prepared for me.

Vanessa froze for a moment, looking confused.

“What are these for? Were you planning to move out all along?”

Then she suddenly realized something, and surprise sharpened her voice.

“Lexi, are you leaving?”

I did not deny it. I opened the wardrobe and began packing my things.

She could hardly believe it. She followed closely behind me and continued asking, “You’re really leaving? Have you finally given up, or is this just a stunt to get Enzo’s attention?”

She kept blocking my way, and I sighed helplessly.

“Vanessa, haven’t you always wanted me to leave? Now that I’m leaving, shouldn’t you be happy?”

She fell silent for a moment, but she continued watching me cautiously.

“You wanted to be his wife more than anything. Do you really not care anymore?”

My hands stilled.

Vanessa was right.

When I married Enzo, I had genuinely hoped he might eventually come to care for me.

But I had personally heard his cold words on our wedding night, and I had watched him let Vanessa take my place again and again simply because I was human.

Over the past three years, every hope and expectation I had for him had slowly been worn away until I stopped expecting anything from him.

Whether I still cared about him or not, I would leave.

The next evening, I was preparing to leave the manor.

The moment I stepped outside, I ran into Enzo.

He was on his way to the Blood Moon Banquet and was in such a hurry that he failed to notice the boxes by my door.

When he saw me, he paused for a moment before speaking first.

“Vanessa… I asked her to move into the manor.”

I nodded.

“I already know.”

Seeing how calm my reaction was, Enzo seemed somewhat uneasy, but he still tried to explain.

“You are human. There are many matters that are inconvenient for you to handle. Vanessa is the daughter of the Stern family. She has more experience than you.”

He was always like this.

He always used my humanity as an excuse to shut me out.

I had already grown used to it.

I did not say anything else. I simply handed him the documents ending our marriage.

“There is no need to explain. Sign them.”

Enzo frowned as he took the documents.

“What is this?”

Just as he was about to open them and read, someone suddenly rushed in from outside and told him that something had happened to Vanessa.

He stuffed the documents back into my hands and hurriedly turned to leave.

But I caught his wrist.

“Wait.”

Enzo turned around, looking somewhat impatient.

“Lexi, something happened to Vanessa. I can’t ignore it.”

“I know.”

I tightened my grip on his wrist.

“But please sign these documents. This is my only request.”

He scrawled his name across the final page without reading a single word, then left the manor without looking back.

I stared at his signature for a long moment before a bitter smile touched my lips.

It was over.

Goodbye, Enzo.

I placed one copy of the documents on the table and slipped off my ring, leaving it beside the papers.

Then I said goodbye to Ingrid, pulled my suitcase behind me, and walked through the gates of the manor for the last time.
