Lena's POV

I stared up at the ceiling for a long time before I finally admitted it to myself: I couldn't stay cooped up in this house anymore. I needed to breathe. I needed to feel like myself again. Grandmother Hale and her rules could go jump off a bridge for all I cared.

I hopped into the shower and made the hot water slap some life into me. By the time I was dressed in a pair of gray lady slacks and a black silk top, I actually felt human again.

Fake it till you make it, right?

I grabbed my bag and headed out. I didn’t get far before I ran straight into Sebastian lounging by the staircase, with his phone clutched in his hand. His eyes went wide when he saw me.

"Wowwwww," he said, dragging the word out dramatically. "Look at you. Someone is about to break hearts today."

I couldn't help but laugh. "Thanks, Sebastian."

"Don’t mention it. Just don’t break too many hearts because I’m still trying to recover from the last time," he added with a wink.

I rolled my eyes playfully and walk

  • The Vow I Never Took   Let The Game Begin

Isabella POV(Hours earlier)I rolled my eyes. “Seriously, Sebastian, if you're going to keep stomping around, can you at least do it in the other room?”He glared at me, but I held his gaze until the glare weakened. Good. Since his plan to take Nathan out failed, he's had to step carefully. Victoria could be merciless when dealing with failure. From the rageful huff he let out, he knew that as well. “Don’t be so smug, Isabella,” Sebastian said, a cruel smile playing on his lips. “Your plan to take care of Nathan failed as well. You couldn't separate him from Lena, remember? Now, my mother is displeased with me. I know that. But she's just as displeased with you. You need this more than I do.” His eyes lit with malicious pleasure. “After all, we both know how badly you need the shares.”“Fuck you, Sebastian,” I growled. But I knew just as well as he did that he'd struck a nerve. The truth was, neither of our attempts to ha

  • The Vow I Never Took   I Am Shopping For My Girl

Nathan POV“All right,” Adrian said as we climbed out of the car. “We have an hour or two before we have to head back to the hotel. Care to explain to me what we're doing here, Nathan?”“Simple,” I said, crossing over to the next street. “Shopping for my girl.”I held Lena's hand in mine, and it felt so natural to be walking with her by my side. Behind us, Adrian let out a loud groan before he ran up behind us.“You do realise,” Adrian said after catching his breath, “that you're not safe out here in the open. None of us are. I know you believe that you've dealt with Isabella and her henchmen of incompetents. But I'd advise you not to try our luck. Heavens know, we have little of it as it is.”My brow furrowed. “We need this, Adrian. I understand your worries and your fears, and trust me, I'm thinking about them. But we need this — Lena, you, me. All of us. The moment we stop trying to live our lives, then they've won, and there

  • The Vow I Never Took   Try Making Out, And I Will Kill Myself

Nathan POV “I can't believe you both slept through the morning. You, Nathan, have three of the most powerful people in this city looking for. Lena, you're a target by association. And yet, you're both waking up by 2 pm.” Adrian met our eyes through the rear mirror. I groaned. Beside me, Lena nervously rearranged her scarf, trying to hide the hickey I'd left on her neck last night. “Drop it, Adrian. We had a wild night, and we both needed the rest. That's all you need to know.”Adrian snorted. I put my arm over Lena's shoulder, pulling her closer to me. She was wearing light make-up, her lips painted a lovely crimson. All I could think about was kissing the lipstick off her mouth, of possessing her right here and now in this car. As if anticipating my thoughts, Lena licked her lips, watching me with the same hunger in her eyes that I felt. “God, if you two start making out in the back of this car, I'm going to kill myself,” Adrian quiped from the driver's seat. “Seriously, you two

  • The Vow I Never Took   The Best Feeling

Nathan POVI kissed her. Her lips were soft and moist, and they pressed easily against my own. When I flicked my tongue over her mouth, I could taste the wine. Exquisite. Just like the rest of her. The black dress glued to her frame, sliding gently over her curves. She was really the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen. And now she was all mine. We kissed again, a harsher, needier kiss than the first. Passion stoked like flames inside of me. I could feel her sickle-shaped lashes press against my cheeks, hear her own heartbeat drumming against hers, feel her bare skin beneath my fingertips. It was taking all of my self control not to simply rip off her clothes right there. “Nathan,” she called, her tone heavy and filled with want. Her eyes lowered to the bulge in my pants. I smiled, hiding a grimace. We were in the hallway and I was really thinking about fucking her right here?“Do you trust me?” I asked her, grabbing her waist and pulling her to me. She gasped, seeming to flush u

  • The Vow I Never Took   I Had It At Last

Lena POV“Ah, Mr. Hale, it's lovely to have you back again with us,” the chef said, bobbing his head. Nathan, predictably, was ignoring him. He had his hand on the small of my back, his fingers trailing light lines over my bare skin. Each touch of his sent tingles coursing up my spine. I struggled to speak, but it felt like my tongue weighed a hundred tons. “Mr. Hale?” the chef said nervously. Nathan finally turned to face him. “Good evening, Enzo. Don't tell me you weren't expecting me. I have a reservation here every last Friday of the month.”Sweat actually dripped down the face of the chef. He looked nervous, and he wrung his hands anxiously. “Well, ah… we heard of your … predicament. We prayed earnestly for your recovery, I most of all. Then…”“Then what, Enzo?” Nathan asked, his voice dangerously low. Enzo swallowed loudly. “Mr. Sebastian informed the establishment that you were not goi

  • The Vow I Never Took   I Want To Kiss You

Lena POVThe hearth hissed as the logs burned and cracked. Golden orange flames leaped from log to log like excited acrobats. I held a mug of coffee in my palms, warming myself with the heat. Steam wafted and coiled like a finger as it ascended out of the cup. I pulled my knees closer to my chest, snuggling deeper into the couch, and holding the blanket strewn over my shoulders a little tighter. Nathan sat beside me. He'd taken off his shirt, and honestly, it was hard not to stare. Every part of him was plated with muscle. He looked more like a Greek god than man. His chest rose and fell as he breathed, and a tail of hair ran between his well defined abs, disappearing into his pants. His tattoos gleamed like obsidian paint in the dim light. I wanted to reach for him and take his jaw in my hands, to press my face into his chest and breathe in his scent. His hand rested on my thigh, his fingers drawing circles over my tingling skin, and each
