Chapter 13

Author: Sweet Hawthorn
Margaret's POV

Cillian, who was dressed in a sharp suit, looked entirely out of place in the building’s worn stairwell.

For some reason, I noticed the tension in his body ease the moment he saw me.

“Margaret, I came to take you home, I…”

I cut him off with a frown. “Mr. Newberry, haven’t you received the divorce papers I sent you?”

I could not figure out why he was here.

I was sure I had sent him the signed divorce papers and the wedding ring.

Cillian should have signed the documents. Wha

A month later, their divorce was finalized in court.Margaret did not return to the capital. She simply tasked someone with delivering the finalized divorce certificate to Cillian for her.Meanwhile, Cillian locked his copy in the safe.Since then, he dedicated himself wholly to his company. He did not try to look up anything that had to do with Margaret. To be more precise, he did not dare to.He was terrified to hear news of her remarrying. That was, until three years later, when Cillian finished a business trip abroad. When Dorsey asked him if he planned to return home afterward, he took Dorsey off guard by announcing that he wanted to go to Roddemhill.Dorsey had to do a double-take.Cillian pressed his temples and insisted on his decision. Some decisions could not be reversed once the mind was set.It was already evening when he arrived at Roddemhill.Even after three years, he still remembered the directions to Margaret’s place. He had his driver park the car opposi

Beau abruptly bit her tongue.Although she did not mean to cause Margaret's miscarriage, she still vividly remembered the way Cillian held Margaret that day, with his eyes red and swollen.Even when they were dating, she had never seen Cillian so distraught. That was the moment when she, too, wondered if Cillian had fallen in love with Margaret. The thought of it made Beau anxious for a while since she was part of what caused Margaret’s miscarriage. If Cillian truly loved Margaret, there was a chance he would put the blame on her.Later, it was evident that Cillian did not hold a grudge against her.Instead, he consoled her by insisting it was his fault.Although he became depressed for a long time after that, his treatment of Beau remained the same. She reasoned that the reason Cillian was upset was that Margaret was carrying his first child. The eldest heir was everything to a prominent family like Cillian’s.His neurotic reaction was that of a father losing his child. It

Then, Cillian heard the sound of someone knocking downstairs.Beau, who somehow heard about Cillian returning from Roddemhill, had come to visit him on her own. When he opened the door, she made a show of concern.“Cillian, is Margaret still insisting on divorcing you?”Cillian pursed his lips and did not answer.Regardless, his expression was enough for Beau to gauge the answer. She subtly smiled. It did not matter even if Cillian had feelings for Margaret. The fact that Margaret had divorced him was enough to draw a conclusion. After Margaret was gone, she was going to be the only woman hovering by Cillian's side.Given their history, Beau was convinced that it would not take long before Cillian would fall for her all over again.“Since Margaret hasn’t changed her mind, you should respect her choice and give in.“Don't worry, I’ll always be by your side.”The thought of Cillian getting divorced made it hard for her to contain her excitement any longer. However, when Cill

Third-Person POVAfter Margaret left, Cillian remained in the cafe for what felt like ages, until closing time.He only snapped out of his trance when the owner asked if he wanted to place a final order. After Cillian left the cafe, he unconsciously found himself walking to Margaret’s place again. From where he stood, he could see the apartment lights were on.He could even hear the faint sounds of laughter coming from inside.Cillian heard a familiar voice. He fell into a dazed state and suddenly recalled how he had rarely heard Margaret laugh so freely in the last four years. He shut his eyes to suppress the emotions, then turned to leave. His trip to Roddemhill lasted less than a day.Since Cillian failed to bring back the person he came here for, he ended up boarding the plane alone again. After landing, he went home immediately. When he opened the door, there was nobody waiting for him.He dragged his exhausted frame to the bedroom. Most of Margaret's belongings in t

  • The Wait Never Ends   Chapter 14

Margaret's POVFor a moment, I wondered if I had misheard.Did Cillian just tell me that he loved me?When I looked at the sincerity in his eyes, I realized that he meant it.It struck me as being quite ridiculous.“You love me?”Cillian nodded and stated again earnestly, "Margaret, I never realized it, but over the last four years, I've fallen in love with you.”It was a very heartfelt confession, but it had the reverse effect of filling me with apathy as I listened to him.If he had told me that at any other point of the past four years, I would have burst into tears of joy. Now, it only struck me with a sense of irony. All it took for him to say that was me filing for divorce. What did he take me for? Did he view me as someone he could toss aside and call back on a whim?Did he think he could woo me with sweet talk after I decided to leave? Then, Cillian quickly offered another assurance as if afraid that I would not believe him.“I’m already getting in touch with a de

What was the reason for the visit?A hint of pain appeared in his eyes the moment I asked the question. He fell silent for what seemed like an eternity before speaking in a cracked voice.“Margaret, I’m sorry.”My heart dropped when I heard his apology. It seemed like he realized why I wanted a divorce. It was too late.“You don’t have to say anything. Just sign the divorce papers.”Cillian pursed his lips and objected. “I don’t want a divorce, Margaret. I’ve never even thought about divorci
