Chapter 6

ผู้เขียน: Orange
Five days before my scheduled departure, I submitted my resignation to the hospital.

Back then, I'd given up my chance to further my medical studies just to be with Dante. To be near him, I chose to become an attending physician at a hospital in the bustling city of Manshore.

My colleagues were shocked to find that I wanted to resign.

"Why are you suddenly resigning, Nina?"

"You were handing out your wedding invitations just a while ago. Does this mean that you plan on becoming a full-time housewife?" one of them teased.

With a document folder in hand, I smiled faintly and shook my head. "Nope. The wedding's been canceled."

When I got back to the house, as soon as I opened the door, I saw Dante and Isobel sitting on the couch. Dante, whom I hadn't seen in a week, was busy in conversation with her.

When he saw the document holder I was holding, he asked, "What's that?"

"Just some unnecessary documents. I brought them back to get rid of them," I lied.

Nodding, Dante looked around the house before remarking, his expression puzzled, "I was only gone for a week. Why do I feel like a lot of things in the house have gone missing?"

After storing the document folder securely in the bedroom, I calmly replied, "I got rid of some unnecessary things lying around."

It looked like Dante had more to say, but Isobel spoke up.

"Nina, Dante really put a lot of effort into accompanying me on his trip. I'm also really thankful you agreed to let him do the wedding photoshoot with me and fulfill a dream of mine."

I detected a hint of smugness in her voice.

"How's this? Why don't I treat you two to a meal as my way of thanking you for everything you've done for me? I'm afraid I'm going to have to take up more of your time for a while. I just hope you won't hate me for it, Nina."

I wasn't keen on engaging in any of these meaningless fights with Isobel. In five days, I would be leaving Dante for good. All I wanted to do now was sort everything out properly and leave as soon as possible.

However, at my prolonged silence, Isobel's eyes reddened with tears.

"Dante, is Nina upset? After all, you two are about to get married, but…"

Upon hearing Isobel's words, Dante frowned and rebuked me in displeasure, "What's with that attitude of yours? Isobel is sincerely trying to thank us! Would it kill you to have a meal with her? It's not like anyone's going to poison the food."

I hadn't even spoken, but Dante had already determined that I was guilty of being unhappy and causing a scene.

I was ultimately dragged to the restaurant by Dante. When the server came to take our order, I started flipping through the menu. However, Dante immediately said, "Avoid all heavily seasoned and raw or undercooked food, and make sure none of the food is cooked with garlic."

Once the food arrived, Dante thoughtfully served Isobel some food before shoving a platter of prawns toward me.

"Isobel can't have any seafood right now. I ordered this for you," he said.

As I stared at the prawns, I lost all my appetite. I set my cutlery down and said, "I'm allergic to seafood."

Dante didn't even remember my seafood allergy, but he knew Isobel's dietary restrictions by heart. He could even recall specific details, such as the fact that Isobel didn't like garlic.

Stiffening, Dante looked at me with a flicker of guilt before ordering a few more dishes for the table. Even so, I didn't pick up my cutlery again. I simply sipped my water in total silence.

After the meal, we were about to leave when I got a call from Julia.

"Nina, Professor Moore wants me to confirm with you whether you're sure you want to fully comply with the project's proposed schedule. This research is part of a classified project, so you might have to spend a year or two cut off from the outside world."

My eyes landed on Dante and Isobel, who were ahead of me. As they descended the steps, he even carefully placed his arm around her waist to support her.

"I'm sure," I responded in an unnervingly calm manner.

"Okay, good," Julia said. "Professor Moore was worried you wouldn't be able to stand being away from your husband."

Withdrawing my gaze, I turned and headed down the other side.

"My wedding has been called off. I've already completed all the arrangements to leave."

As soon as I finished speaking, I heard a puzzled voice behind me asking, "Who's leaving?"

  • The Wedding That Will Never Be   Chapter 17

Since I agreed to let Dante attend my wedding, I had someone deliver the wedding invitation as well as the pre-wedding treat to him.Dante unwrapped the cookie and slowly took a bite. It had been a long time since he last tasted something this sweet.…A sea of guests showed up for my wedding.Tim looked incredibly charming in his well-fitted black suit. As I stared at him while he stood beside me, I felt a sense of peace and joy I'd never felt before. After meeting him, I finally understood what true love felt like. Deceit and mistrust had no place in a love like this.At last, the wedding ceremony began. I took Dad's hand and slowly walked down the aisle toward Tim. When passing my hand over to Tim, Dad solemnly said, "I'm leaving my daughter in your care now.""Rest assured, for I will protect her with my life," Tim promised earnestly. We exchanged our vows and our rings before sharing a passionate kiss. The crowd immediately erupted in cheers and hearty applause. All of the

I thought I was going to get stabbed, but the pain I'd expected never came. I whipped my head up and realized that Dante had shielded me from the attack. He was clutching his abdomen with one hand, but it was bleeding profusely anyway.Swaying, he ended up crashing on top of me."Dante!"I quickly tried to keep him steady as I called for an ambulance. The only thing I could think of was to stop his bleeding at once."Have you lost your mind?" I cried out as I pressed down against his wound. My fingers were covered in his blood.Dante was already losing consciousness. His face was colorless, but he struggled to keep his eyes open and look at me. With a faint smile on his face, he said, "Now I know… how much it hurts… Was this the pain you felt back then?"My heart clenched, and my nose prickled.Dante only fainted when he heard the siren of the ambulance just moments before it pulled up beside us.…The surgery lasted three hours. The doctor said that none of his vital organs

Before I had a chance to even say anything, Dante's emotions got the better of him."I can explain everything!" he choked out as his eyes reddened. "At the time, I thought Isobel was the one who saved me. I never had any feelings for her. It was only after you'd left that I found out it was you who saved me that night five years ago. I've been mistaken all along, Nina…"Dante's eyes were filled with regret, but they also held a flicker of hope. He assumed that by revealing the truth, I would be able to forgive him, but he was wrong.I'd saved him that night. I was the one who tended to his injuries and stopped his bleeding, but I never brought it up. It was an incident from the past that we both chose not to dwell on.However, Dante assumed that someone else had saved him, and that mistake cost him our entire relationship."I didn't let Isobel give birth to that baby. I know the truth now, Nina. So can we go back to the way things were between us?" Dante asked.Immediately, I sho

I spent all those years trying to win Dante over, but he remained as unmoved as a block of ice. His heart was as cold as a rock. However, when Isobel showed up, I realized that he wasn't truly an emotionless person. He simply didn't love me.Two years ago, I canceled our wedding and removed myself from the equation so that Dante and Isobel could be together. Yet, he had broken things off with Isobel and was now behaving as though he was still deeply in love with me."Excuse me, but Tim is my fiance," I coolly declared. "We're getting married on the 18th, which is in ten days."Dante's face turned ashen. His eyes reddened with tears. It was as if he couldn't accept that I was actually going to marry someone else.I was in no mood to get entangled with him. Thus, I decided to leave with everyone and have the party elsewhere. As I walked past him, he grabbed me, but I yanked my hand away without hesitation. Taking Tim's hand, I left the restaurant while Dante remained rooted to the sp

Two years later, as I stepped out of Manhorne Airport with my suitcase in tow, I was met with a sense of familiarity in the air.I had left Manhorne alone, but after two years, I returned with Tim by my side. The research project had been completed, and the hospital gave me two months off, so I decided to return to Manhorne. There was something I needed to finish off here—a proper farewell."Nina! We're going to be late if we don't hurry!" Tim said before taking my hand and pulling me into a jog.Linda said that she wanted to throw me a welcome-back party. As it had been two years since I last saw my friends, I agreed. As we hurried up the building where the restaurant was, I thought I spotted a familiar silhouette, but I didn't give it much thought. As soon as the door to the private dining room at the restaurant flew open, confetti burst into the air."I didn't hear a single word from you for two whole years! I was on the verge of calling the police!" Linda grumbled out as she

Dante crashed into an armchair, his eyes clouded red. He was grasping a report he had just received. He said, "Isobel, you're not the one who saved me five years ago."Isobel stiffened, but she kept a gentle smile on her face as she tried to take his arm and say, "Why are you saying this all of a sudden, Dante? Are you tired—"She hadn't finished speaking before Dante flung her off him and snarled, "Drop the act! I reviewed the surveillance footage from the alley at the time. It was Nina who saved me. She was the one who stayed with me when I was on the verge of death!"All the color drained from Isobel's face.At the time, she'd come across Dante at the hospital by sheer coincidence. He'd just woken up and immediately assumed she saved him. She should've clarified things right away. However, in a moment of weakness, she gave in to her selfish desires and played along with his assumptions.Later, her family sent her abroad, which resulted in them losing touch. When she returned, s
