Chapter 2

Author: Snail
Lewis seemed satisfied with my answer. His expression relaxed as he stood up and casually ruffled my hair.

“Eve, you’ve become much more sensible now. After we get married, we’ll live a wonderful life together.”

I nodded without arguing, because I knew there would be no “after we get married.”

As Lewis prepared to leave, his gaze swept across my room.

“Why does it feel like there’s less stuff here?”

The photo frame that used to sit on the cabinet was gone. The pictures on the wall had been taken down. Even the music box he once gave me at the bedside had disappeared. The entire room looked emptier.

I looked down and told a small lie. “I packed them away. There was too much clutter in the room, and it looked messy.”

I thought the excuse sounded half-hearted, but Lewis nodded.

“It does look cleaner like this.”

Over the past month, I had quietly packed away everything I could—clothes, jewelry, documents, and all the memories I had shared with Lewis over the years. Bit by bit, I placed them into boxes, as if I were personally sorting through a relationship that had ended long ago.

Then, Lewis spoke again. “Since you’ve cleaned up most of the room, can you move to the east suite for now and allow Quinn to stay here for a while?”

He paused and then added as if he was negotiating, “Quinnie has had sleep issues since she was young. She has always had trouble sleeping and finds it hard to adjust to unfamiliar rooms. Your room has the best lighting, and it’s the quietest.”

As if something had stabbed me in my chest, my breathing hitched, and a dense, suffocating pain spread outward. It was so sharp that I could barely breathe.

This was my room, the future master bedroom of our marital home. I had chosen every piece of furniture and decoration, and now, he wanted to give it to someone else?

Seeing that I hadn’t responded, Lewis softened his tone again. “It’s only temporary. Once the wedding is over, she’ll move out.”

However, I wouldn’t be here anymore after the wedding. Three days from now, I would be on a flight to Switz to meet my grandfather, whom I hadn’t seen in years, and to reclaim the life that was originally mine. So, I would never come back to this room anyway.

At that thought, the pain in my chest eased. I lifted my head and gave a faint smile.

“Alright.”

It didn’t matter anymore. Since I was leaving, whoever took the room had nothing to do with me.

A satisfied expression appeared on Lewis’s face. “Eve, you’ve really changed. The old you would never have been so generous.”

Back then, I would’ve grabbed his hand and asked him why. I might have even argued with him, but not anymore.

Lewis leaned down and pressed a light kiss on my forehead.

“Thank you for understanding. I’ll make it up to you on the wedding day.”

After Lewis left, I continued packing the remaining things, but soon, loud footsteps came from downstairs. Quinn couldn’t wait to move in. Suitcases were being carried in one after another, of jewelry boxes, wardrobe trunks, and makeup cases, which filled half the living room.

She led the servants upstairs to my room. After scanning the space, a hint of satisfaction flashed in her eyes. Then, she looked at me with a deliberately apologetic expression.

“Eve, sorry about this. Lewis insisted I take this room. I actually didn’t want to.” Her words sounded apologetic, but the smile on her face was impossible to hide. “This room is indeed much better than the guest rooms. No wonder Lewis always kept it for you.”

She turned and instructed the servants to move her things in before glancing at me again.

“Eve, you don’t mind, do you?” she asked.

I shook my head and dragged my suitcase out of the room when Quinn suddenly stopped me.

“You’d better move those boxes out today. I don’t like other people’s things left in my room.”

At that moment, Lewis walked in, his brows slightly furrowed.

“Quinn, don’t say that.”

Then, he turned to me and explained apologetically, “Eve, she’s always been like that. She’s a little OCD, and she speaks bluntly. Don’t take it to heart. She doesn’t mean anything by it.”

I nodded and continued packing the last of my things. “It’s fine.”

I didn’t care anymore how they arranged things because I didn’t plan to keep what was left anyway.

There I stood, completely calm and composed, my posture upright and radiating confidence. The softness and hesitation that used to define me had completely vanished from my face. My eyes now shone with a sharp brilliance. There was no trace remaining of the girl who used to revolve her entire world around him.I walked straight to the other end of the conference table and sat down. My expression was perfectly composed, yet entirely distant. As my gaze drifted over him, there was no shock. To me, he was just another ordinary business associate.Lewis could no longer control his spiralling emotions. He strode forward quickly, reaching his hand out in an attempt to grab mine. However, before he could get close, two of my personal assistants stepped in, blocking him from getting to me.He stopped in his tracks. His eyes were bloodshot, and when he finally spoke, his voice was raspy with long-suppressed regret. He sounded broken and almost pleading.“Eve, I know I was wrong. All these y

Quinn left, barely able to stand. Her legs felt weak, and her entire body trembled uncontrollably. She had always relied on her fragile, innocent act to keep Lewis wrapped around her finger. He had indulged her, protected her, and even favored her. However, she had never once seen that ice-cold look in his eyes before. There was no warmth or the usual tenderness he once showed her, but pure, unmistakable disgust. At that moment, the last sliver of hope in Quinn’s heart shattered. She understood, with painful clarity, that she no longer held any place in Lewis’s world.Stumbling back into her room, the jealousy and resentment she had been suppressing finally exploded. With red eyes, she began smashing everything within reach. The sharp sound of destruction echoed through the room nonstop.“Why?” Quinn gasped for breath, her eyes bloodshot as she screamed hysterically, “Why is it that even after Eve left him, he still chooses her?”She couldn’t accept being discarded right when she

With Grandpa’s guidance, I quickly took over all of the Roberts family’s businesses. I had always possessed a natural business instinct. I had picked it up from Grandpa at a young age. However, back then, for the sake of Lewis, I had willingly dimmed my own brilliance and became the obedient, gentle girlfriend who stood quietly beside him.Now that I had thrown myself fully into work, handling corporate affairs came effortlessly to me. Within just one month, I had reorganized the entire structure of the Roberts family’s businesses. Using precise business judgment, I secured several international partnerships in succession, establishing my presence in the international business world.Soon, my name began to dominate headlines across major financial and fashion media in Europa. Reporters fought to cover me, the long-vanished heiress who had returned in a stunning comeback. The news traveled and quickly spread through Napels’ upper society. Aristocrats and powerful business figures d

For the next half month, all of Napels was thrown into an endless search. No one knew where I had gone. Each time Lewis’s men returned empty-handed, the fear in him only grew stronger. Yet, he refused to give up. Stubbornly, he ordered every one of his men to keep searching. Even when hope had thinned to almost nothing, he refused to accept the reality that I had truly disappeared.Night after night, he could not sleep, and he looked a lot more worn out. Then, one night, he finally drifted into a shallow sleep, and for once, he dreamed peacefully. In the dream, he saw a familiar seaside night scene, with fireworks bursting across the sky in brilliant colors, while I stood there in a clean white dress, smiling as I ran toward him along the shore. In that moment, all his anxiety and frustrations vanished. Instinctively, Lewis reached out, desperate to pull me into his arms, but just as his fingers were about to touch mine, everything shattered. The fireworks vanished, and my figure d

The wedding music kept looping through the venue, but due to my absence, the grand wedding had to come to an abrupt end.Guests stood around exchanging uncertain glances, and whispered conversations echoed across the hall.“What happened? This is the Don’s wedding of the century, and the bride didn’t even show up?”“That can’t be right. Everyone knows Lewis dotes on Eve, and she’s a subject of envy in all of Napels. Why would she choose to run away from that kind of power and a wedding like this?”“I heard the bride was always gentle, obedient, and never the type to cause trouble. How could she just disappear like this?”Every gossip reached Lewis’s ears as he stood alone on the empty stage, the uneasiness growing heavier in his chest. He couldn’t understand it, and it didn’t make sense. For an entire month, I hadn’t argued, resisted, or caused a single scene. I had accepted every compromise, so why would I suddenly vanish without a trace? He was getting impatient and needed an

On the day of the wedding, the entire estate was lit up in dazzling brilliance. Guests arrived one after another. Social elites from across Europa, powerful financiers, and representatives from major mafia families all gathered under one roof.Standing before the extravagant scene, Lewis gave a rare smile. After the wedding, he would move into the master suite of the estate with me, and we would finally become a family. With that, all the past arguments and misunderstandings would slowly fade away.Just then, Quinn walked toward Lewis with a smile. She was wearing an ornate wedding dress, the one Lewis had spent a fortune having custom-made in France. It was a one-of-a-kind piece, originally meant as compensation for me.“Why are you wearing that?” Lewis’s voice turned icy in an instant.Quinn flinched. “Lewis… I just wanted to test it out on behalf of Eve. The dress only arrived yesterday. I was worried it might not fit properly, and since I helped design parts of the wedding, I j
