Chapter 15

Author: Momo
Ada had been forced to end the pregnancy, and before she could even recover, they dumped her in a mental ward.

She lay flat on the bed, skin paper-white, body hollowed out.

Steven stood over her and tossed a stack of evidence in her face.

"You really thought no one would find out? You used your own kid—you don't deserve to be a mom."

Her eyes flicked to the photos, her cheeks draining. Everything she'd done was laid bare.

Her lips shook like she wanted to explain, but nothing came out.

Steven's voice was ice. "I gave you chance after chance. You blew every one. From now on, you'll never see Ollie again. This place is your forever."

Ada's stare burned into his back as he left.

She hated him—his sudden cruelty after all the soft promises.

She hated Oliver—so weak he couldn't even save her.

And she hated Bella most of all. Why did Bella get everything while she was left in ruins?

But she had no fight left.

Life inside that ward was worse than any nightmare she'd pictured.

  • The Weight of Broken Promises   Chapter 19

Ada had snapped. She'd busted out of the psychiatric hospital, and after she stabbed Steven, Miranda wasn't about to forgive her. The only reason Ada wasn't tossed straight into the street was Oliver, begging on his knees. So Miranda locked Ada in the attic at the top of the Rocca estate, posting staff to keep her trapped. With Steven's condition still shaky in the hospital, Miranda spent almost all her time at his side. Ada barely registered in her world. The staff hated Ada anyway. They dumped food at the door twice a day, didn't care if she touched it.Until one day—a tray sat there untouched. Then another. Then another. Three meals in a row.A maid panicked, shoved the door open—only to find Ada hanging from the beam, limp and gone.Screams tore through the house. The staff ran to Miranda.Miranda just clenched her jaw."Burn the body. Bury her anywhere. I don't want her name mentioned again."But regret gnawed at her. She'd been the one who shoved Ada into Steven's bed a

Rocca estate. When Steven rushed back, he found Ada a wreck—hair wild, clothes ripped, face streaked with dirt and tears. She looked like something dragged out of hell. She had Oliver locked in a room, clinging to him, refusing to open the door for anyone. The second Miranda saw Steven, her eyes lit up like she'd just found an anchor."Steven, Ada's lost it, but Ollie's innocent. You have to save him!"Steven's face was haggard, his bloodshot eyes dull with exhaustion. He gave a tight nod, ordered the door forced open, and stepped inside."Ada, you wanted me. I'm here. Let Ollie go."Ada snapped her head up, stared at him, then burst out laughing."Ha...hahaha!"The sound was shrill, bouncing off the walls, making the whole room colder."I heard you went running to Inglane—only for Bella to toss you out. Ha! Serves you right! Bella will never forgive you!"Her voice was venom, spitting every ounce of her pain onto him.Oliver bawled in her arms, terrified."Mommy, it's me!

"You're awake." Bella's voice was flat, like he was just some stranger.Steven shook, overwhelmed. A month without her had eaten him alive, and now—she was here. Her voice cracked him open, and everything he'd buried came rushing out.Eyes burning, he sat up and pulled her into his arms. "Bella, it's really you. I missed you so much."She froze, then shoved him off. "We're already divorced."He stared at the empty space where she'd been, pain slashing across his face. "I don't accept it. That day, I was drunk—I didn't even realize what I was signing."His voice cracked, frantic, like a kid about to lose the only thing he cared about.Bella's eyes stayed hard. "You should've known this day was coming the second you got tangled up with Ada years ago."A sharp, bitter laugh slipped out.Steven went pale, shaking his head. "Bella, please... I had my reasons. I didn't have a choice!" His voice cracked, desperate. "My family needed an heir. Taking control was the only way I could pro

Steven lingered at the edge of the garden, eyes locked on Bella like he could burn her into memory. She met his stare with nothing—no ache, no rush in her chest. Just silence. Then she shut the window in his face.A maid hurried in. "Ms. Beaufort, Mr. Steven Rocca's at the door. He wants to see you."Bella didn't flinch. "Tell him I'm not."The maid left, and so did the subject.Bella never thought about him again.By evening, rain drummed soft and steady against the glass. Nico, recharged from his nap, bounced by the window."Aunt Bella, look!" he gasped. "There's someone out there!"Bella hurried over. Nico's finger didn't lie—Steven stood in the downpour, soaked and pathetic.Classic Steven. The pity act.Once, the sight would've shredded her. She would've run straight into his arms. Now? It was laughable."If he wants to stand in the rain, let him," she said, ice in her voice. To the maid, she added, "If he passes out, send him to the hospital. Just don't let him die

Steven got tossed out of the Beaufort mansion, the receipts in hand.He knew he owed them an explanation. Without it, Jonathan would never let him near Bella again—and honestly, he couldn't even face her without it.Outside, the sky looked like it was about to crack open. Heavy clouds sagged low, matching his mood.Jaw tight, he headed back to the Rocca estate. The party was long over. He didn't even pause—just barreled straight into Ada's room, fury rolling off him in waves."Ada, I told you—if you wanted Oliver to stay in this family, you should've kept your mouth shut around Bella!"His hand shot out, clamping around her throat, squeezing tighter by the second."Why'd you even go to her? And what the hell is that divorce paper about?"His eyes were wild, zero warmth left. Just raw rage, like he could tear her apart right then and there.Ada's face turned red as she gasped out, "Steven, y-you're saying—I don't... get it.""Don't get it?" Steven scoffed, yanking up the secur
