Chapter 4

Author: Snail
He stopped instinctively and turned back. “Eloise, are you alright?”

Her tearful eyes shimmered as she clutched at the hem of his trousers. “Where are you going?”

Lawrence hesitated, his expression tight. “I have to find Sylvie. She’s asking for a divorce again. You know how she is—I don’t…”

Eloise let out a soft, amused laugh and interrupted him. “Another one of Sylvie’s tricks, huh? She loves you too much to ever leave. And she’s carrying your child—where else could she possibly go? Lawrence, you’re far too easy to fool.”

Lawrence paused, her words seeping into his mind like poison. Slowly, his heartbeat steadied. “You’re right. She loves me—she always has. She’s emotional, but she’d never really walk away from me. I must’ve overreacted.”

Eloise smiled sweetly, the picture of concern. “Sylvie needs to learn her place. Let her cool off for a few days. Maybe then she’ll realize she can’t keep using divorce or that baby to get your attention.”

He typed a message, his jaw set:

“Sylvie, what game are you playing now? Do you really think threatening me with divorce will work? It won’t. Until you apologize to Eloise, I won’t forgive you.”

Then another:

“Even if you insist on divorcing me, I won’t change my mind. If you have the guts, don’t come back. The day after tomorrow morning, I’ll come to pick you up, looking forward to seeing you show some remorse.”

With that, he blocked my number.

“Three days,” he muttered, slipping his phone into his pocket. “I’ll give her three days to calm down. Then I’ll go get her myself.”

“She’s served her punishment. I’ll bring the sapphire necklace she mentioned last time—I’m sure she’ll love it.”

Lawrence was certain I’d never truly leave him.

But for the first time—he was wrong.

I insisted on being discharged and dragged my weak body home.

Our bedroom looked exactly the same as the day I left, indicating that Lawrence hadn't been home the past few days.

I started packing my belongings. After placing everything that belonged to me into a suitcase, I called my friend, who was a lawyer.

“Niall, I've filed for divorce from Lawrence, and I'd like to ask you to handle all the follow-up matters for me."

After arranging everything, I dragged my suitcase to the airport.

Lawrence. From now on, we’ll never see each other again.

I snapped my SIM card and boarded the plane, not once glancing back.

After that, Lawrence tried calling me several more times with different numbers, but I blocked every one of them. However, Niall would always tell me what was going on with Lawrence back home.He told me Lawrence had wanted to come to Melivane to find me, but his status made it hard for him to travel abroad. Just when he was about to overcome all obstacles to do so, his enemies found him. It turned out he had tortured Eloise to the point where she wished she were dead. After running away, Eloise, fueled by her hatred for Lawrence, sought refuge with his enemy, the Romano family. She leaked a lot of his confidential information to them. After getting hold of the information, Don Romano targeted Lawrence's businesses, crippling the Ardent family. "In the last shootout, Lawrence was seriously injured and lost a leg. He probably won't have the chance to come looking for you again."When Niall mentioned Lawrence, he couldn't hide the pity on his face. After all, they'd known each other fo

Meanwhile, I was sunbathing on the beach in Melivane. The view was breathtaking. I had never seen the ocean before, and I instantly fell in love with it. Losing my baby had left me heartbroken, but being here somehow cleared my mind and lifted the weight off my chest. The instructor was about to take me snorkeling when my phone kept ringing. I pulled it out, and the moment I saw the caller ID, I knew Lawrence had tracked down my new number. He must have seen the divorce agreement by now, and he must have also realized that our baby was gone.I didn't want to deal with him, so I declined the call. Lawrence refused to give up. He called time and time again. My instructor urged, "It seems urgent. Why don't you answer it? We'll wait for you to get in the ocean."I took a deep breath, deciding it was best to clarify things once and for all. I answered the call. "Hello?""Sylv! You finally answered!" Lawrence's anxious voice came through the line.I was caught off guard. After all these yea

Lawrence suddenly grabbed Dr. Clayton by the neck. His eyes were bloodshot, and he looked like he'd gone mad. "Why didn't you operate on her? Why did you just stand there and watch her miscarry?"Choked by Lawrence's grip, Dr. Clayton's face flushed crimson, and he could barely breathe. It took him a lot of effort to force out, "You were the one who told me she was an impostor and that I should ignore her. If I'd known she was your wife, I would never have left her like that!""Who told you to ignore her? She's my wife!" Lawrence yelled, his face contorted. "I-It was your assistant who said so! I called you, and she was the one who picked up." Dr. Clayton pulled out his phone, showing Lawrence his call log. After seeing that, Lawrence understood everything. He turned his head and gave Eloise the death glare, his entire body radiating an overwhelming sense of anger.Eloise was scared out of her wits. While the two men argued, she grabbed her bag and tried to run. In a flash, Lawrence

After hanging up, Lawrence rushed to the hospital, completely out of it. He thought Eloise was badly injured. However, when he pushed open the door to her ward, he found her sitting perfectly fine on the bed, munching on an apple. As soon as Eloise saw him, she jumped off the bed and ran straight toward him. "Lawrie, you're here!"Lawrence gave her a quick once-over. "Weren't you involved in a car accident?""I was!" Eloise pouted and pointed to the bandaid on her forehead. "See? I hit my head. It hurts a lot!"He glanced at the bandaid on her forehead, then at the doctor beside them, who looked exasperated. That was when it hit him. He had been tricked. "Why did you lie to me?"Eloise said, "When did I lie to you? I was involved in a car accident! I'm injured!" Eloise finally realized something was off about Lawrence. Before, if he'd heard she was hurt, he would've rushed over without a second thought. Now, she had to ask the doctor to tell a little lie just to get him to come."The

"Sylvie's number has been deactivated?" Lawrence asked in disbelief. Then, he immediately refuted it. "That's impossible! She's had that number for years. It's the only way to reach her. How could it be deactivated?""It's true, Don Ardent. I've already called the telecommunications company. They confirmed the number was personally deactivated by the owner yesterday."A wave of unease rose in Lawrence's chest. He called Niall once again. "Niall, can you still reach Sylvie? I can't find her!"Niall froze for a moment before slipping into professional mode. "Ms. Neve asked me to deliver the divorce agreement to you. Perhaps my client no longer wishes to be in contact with you. If you have any requests, feel free to tell me, and I'll make adjustments to the agreement accordingly.""Bullshit! When did I agree to a divorce?" Lawrence fumed. "All of you just can't stand seeing us together! Listen here, I'll never divorce Sylvie!"I want you to tell her to come home right this instant. She's

Lawrence sped home as fast as he could. On the way, he had already decided that it didn't matter if I refused to apologize. So what if I had a bad temper? He wouldn't hold it against me. After all, I was pregnant, and pregnant women were bound to have mood swings. It was understandable. He had even called his secretary to book a trip to a tropical island. I'd mentioned wanting to travel with him countless times, but he'd always come up with some excuse to turn me down.A wave of guilt surged in his chest. We'd been married for three years, yet I'd never once gone on a trip. My world revolved entirely around him, and I had no personal space of my own. Once our baby was born, I knew I would have even less time to make that wish come true. After booking the flight tickets, Lawrence couldn't wait to see how happy I'd be when I found out. However, when he arrived home and opened the living room door, I wasn't there. In the past, whenever he came home late, he would find me sitting on the
