Third POV

Calder could clearly see the way things were going. It was sure not to end well. His heart thumped. King Cassius might be arriving at San Lucy anytime soon with his men, war could arise because of this and he knew he would forever be labeled as the cause. After his wolf warned him of this, for the next few seconds, he was calling.

Seeing his name pop up on the screen of his phone, he knew he was done. He was forced to pick.

“It’s been hours and no news of my daughter’s release and yet you haven’t said anything.” His voice sprang unbelievably high. In Calder’s years of closeness to the king he had never seen him this angry, not even with Julian.

“The time I gave you is ticking, you will soon find me there and you know what that would mean.”

Calder’s body was already getting fever, he stammered, wanting to say something. Anything in response but before he could, King Cassius had already ended the call. It reflected before his very eyes the danger he was going to cause hims

Third POVThe room still carried the warmth of their closeness. Reina lay against Julian’s chest, her cheek pressed over the steady rise and fall of his breathing. The fire had burned low, soft orange light casting shadows across the walls. She could feel the beat of his heart beneath her palm, a rhythm that seemed stronger than anything outside those four walls. For a moment, she wanted time to stay still, to never move forward into the dangers she knew were coming.Julian’s hand rested on her waist, his thumb brushing slowly over her skin as though he wanted to memorize her. His touch was not hurried anymore, not desperate like before—it was calmer now, but still full of hunger that he held back.“You’re quiet,” Julian murmured, his voice low against her hair.Reina tilted her head to look at him. The golden firelight caught the angles of his face, softening the sharpness of his jaw. “I don’t want this to end,” she whispered. He kissed her forehead gently, lingering there. “It doesn

Reina’s POVThe room was quiet except for the faint hum of the city outside. The curtains were half-drawn, and the soft glow of streetlights painted golden lines across the sheets tangled around us. My body was still warm from him, my skin tingling where his hands had been, yet it wasn’t the heat between us that held me now. It was the silence, heavy but tender, as if the air itself waited for what would come next.Julian lay beside me, one arm under his head, the other tracing slow circles on my arm. His touch was light, almost absentminded, but it made me shiver. For once, he wasn’t rushing. For once, he wasn’t demanding. He was simply here. I turned my face to him, studying the man who had both broken me and pieced me back together. His eyes weren’t their usual sharp steel. Tonight, they were soft. Bare.“Why are you looking at me like that?” he whispered, his lips curving in a tired smile.“Because I’m trying to figure you out,” I answered honestly. He chuckled low, but it wasn’t

Reina’s POVThe sea air still clung to my hair when I stepped out onto the balcony that evening. San Lucy spread below, its streets alive with soft lantern light and music drifting from open windows. The sound of laughter floated up, mixed with the faint strum of a guitar somewhere in the distance. I rested my hands on the railing, letting the breeze carry the salt and warmth against my skin.Behind me, the door slid open. I didn’t have to turn to know it was Julian. His steps were quiet, yet I felt them, the bond pulling tight with each one. He stopped just close enough that I could feel his presence without being touched.“You look at home here,” he said, his voice low, almost careful.I glanced back at him. He was dressed in a white shirt, sleeves rolled up, the collar undone. He looked nothing like the man who carried the weight of secrets and shadows back in the city. Here, he looked almost free—though the lines at his jaw still betrayed him.“This place feels… light,” I admitted

Reina’s POVWe stayed quiet for a long time. His arm was around me. My cheek lay on his chest. I could hear his heart, still fast, like it didn’t trust the calm. The room was warm. The sheets smelled like soap and him. My eyes burned from crying, but I didn’t want to move. Nothing was fixed. But I didn’t want to let go either.“Reina,” he said at last, his mouth close to my hair. “Come away with me. Just for a few days. No noise. No eyes. No past. I’ll take you somewhere soft.” He paused, as if he worried the word was wrong. “San Lucy. And if you hate it, we’ll turn around. I promise.”I lifted my head. His face was tired and open. He waited, not pushing.“What does ‘somewhere soft’ mean?” I asked. My voice came out small.“A place where the air is kind,” he said. “Where the sea is bright and the streets are slow. You don’t have to decide anything there. You can just breathe.”“I’m not ready to forgive you,” I said.“I know,” he said. “I’m not asking for that. I only want to make spac

Reina’s POVHis breath still lingered on my skin, warm and heavy, as if the words he had poured into me moments ago had not yet faded. The room felt too small, too quiet, carrying only the sound of our uneven breaths. I stood there, torn between wanting to move closer and needing to pull away.Julian’s eyes never left me. They burned with something I didn’t want to name, something that had always made my chest tighten whenever he looked at me that way. His gaze carried guilt, longing, and a hunger he tried so hard to control. My heart fought inside me, like it wanted to leap into his arms while my mind screamed that I wasn’t ready.“I don’t want to hurt you anymore,” he whispered, his voice low, almost breaking. “But if you tell me to leave, I’ll walk away. Just… say it, Reina.”The bond between us stirred, rising like a wave I couldn’t hold back. It wasn’t gentle—it was fierce, dragging me closer when all I wanted was distance. My hands trembled at my sides. I hated him for what he d

Reina’s POVThe silence that came after Julian’s confession sat heavy between us. My chest rose and fell unevenly, like I was struggling to breathe. His words kept replaying in my head, sharp and raw. He wanted to protect me. He wanted to keep me safe. But all I could feel was the sting of betrayal.I stepped back, but he reached forward as if he couldn’t stop himself. His hand brushed my wrist, and it sent a jolt through me. I hated that my body still reacted. My heart still raced for him, even when my mind screamed against it.“Reina…” His voice broke, low and rough, almost pleading. “Don’t look at me like I’m a stranger.”I laughed bitterly, though tears burned at the back of my eyes. “What do you expect me to see, Julian? You lied to me. You hid yourself from me. You made me feel like I was falling for someone else, when it was you all along.”He flinched, and I saw guilt flicker across his face. His jaw tightened, but he didn’t look away. He was standing there, completely exposed
