Delivery

“Ahhh! Ahhh! Mmm!” Daisy groaned as she tried to sit up from the bed. The intense pain from labor crippled her that she couldn’t stand upright and she fell to the bed. Reaching out to her phone on her bed, she called the pack doctor, Sarah, to inform her about her condition. Dr. Sarah wasn’t picking up!

“what am I going to do? I need Dr. Sarah, why isn’t she answering her phone and I can’t go to see her in this condition.”

Daisy groaned and sighed in agony. Seth, her husband had instructed Dr. Sarah to be close to her reach at all times since she took in, especially now that she’s close to delivery. Dr. Sarah heeded the instructions so far but today when she’s needed the most, she can’t be reached.

Daisy couldn’t lose this baby, not after what she went through to take in. With the little strength she had left in her, she screamed at the top of her voice

“Help me! Somebody, please!”

She heard some footsteps and voices coming her way, she’s the Luna after all, and soon, the room was filled with a lot of people, Williams tried to reach Dr. Daisy for a while and when he couldn’t, he carried her in his arms, rushed downstairs, and drove her to a different hospital.

“I’m sorry, Luna for not getting to you sooner.” Williams apologized while driving. Daisy was too engrossed in the pain she felt around her abdomen and in the fear of losing her baby.

If there was one thing Williams was sure of, it’s that Dr. Sarah is in trouble, she has crossed the line. Seth doesn’t take things like this lightly. He’d worry about Dr. Sarah’s imprudence later but now, he had to see that their Luna, Daisy delivers her pup, the heir.

As they arrived at the hospital, Daisy was carried to a different section. Williams had told the doctor that she isn’t ordinary and he made the necessary arrangements for her delivery. It was a backup plan if things went south as if Seth knew that things would turn out this way.

All the while, Daisy was in a lot of pain, wishing that this would end soon.

“Push! Push!” the doctor commanded while the nurses held Daisy down and consoled her while the baby tore its way through. Daisy bled for a while and when she had lost a copious amount of blood, she felt her soul leaving her but instantly, she was rejuvenated by the soothing cries of her baby.

“I did it! I made it!” Daisy gasped as she saw the doctor carry the baby away to clean it up. With this sense of achievement, Daisy let herself go, easing every anxiety she felt and smiled heartily. She plunges asleep and when she wakes up, her wounds had healed completely, one of the benefits of being a werewolf.

She’s handed her baby and she holds him with love and care, imagining just how delighted Seth would be when he learns of this tonight. The doctor cleans her up and Williams drives her home.

“He’s so beautiful!” everyone gasped as Daisy walked into the house. The members were assembled at the front door to welcome their Luna and the new member of the pack who would lead them someday. As Daisy walked through the space they created in the center, she inspected their expressions and noticed the smiles on their faces were phony. Seth must have put them up to this but she wasn’t the least moved by their trial at acceptance. The elders guessed she was infertile and advised Seth to take a second mate, one who is fertile and can bear him pups. But Seth loved his wife dearly and couldn’t betray her like that.

Maybe Dr. Sarah not responding to her calls today is one of their doing, they wanted to win at all costs but Williams showed up right when she needed him. He was one of the few persons that welcomed her on the first day she moved into the pack house. He made it clear that he was only nice to her because of Seth, and their relationship was very formal although Williams was always looking out for her. At some point, Daisy felt that he was now doing it because he cared, or she assumed it that way because she was almost desperate for acceptance in the pack.

“Thank you, Williams, for today. I don’t know what I would have done without you,” Daisy said as she walked to her room with her baby in her hands and Williams, trailing behind.

“You’re welcome” Williams replied, with a blank expression.

Daisy had the impulse to inquire of him a very delicate question, she made an effort to fight it and when she failed, she blurted it out

“if Seth hadn’t earlier told you to look after me, would you have hurried to me when I called out for help?”  Daisy wanted to know her allies and foes, every other member of the pack loathes her and she wanted to know if Williams was part too.

Williams was careful before he answered the question, knowing Daisy to be a very purposeful and logical lady. He didn’t want to take any sides.

“When it comes to matters concerning the pack, I would lay down my life,” Williams said, still wearing the blank expression.

Daisy was deterred by the answer but she knew it was true. Williams is one of the remarkably selfless persons she knew.

Daisy was elated when she realizes that it was just a few steps away from her room, she’d finally get to rest with her baby who was already asleep.

“See you tomorrow, and you don’t have to stand by the door tonight,” Daisy said as she enters her room and closes the door. Sometimes, she felt sorry for Williams who stands at her door every night since she took in when Seth is away on his business trips. She knows that her instructions fell on deaf ears, she doesn’t call the shots around here, Seth does and Williams would only do what Seth tells him to do, he’d guard Daisy’s room tonight.

Daisy was the happiest woman in the world as she laid her baby in his crib, imagining the joyful look on Seth’s face when she tells him over face time tonight. He had been gone for only one week and Daisy missed him like he’s been gone forever. “We’re now parents!” Daisy would remind herself now and then, dancing through the room.
