Caleb picked her up after work.

Eleanor had offered to treat him to dinner as a thank-you for the night before.

The plan fell apart at the mall entrance a crisis at his company yanked him back to handle it personally.

"You sure you'll be okay on your own?" he asked, hovering by the curb, clearly reluctant to leave.

Eleanor gave him a look. "I'm not twelve. This mall isn't exactly a crime scene."

She wasn't ready to head home yet anyway. Since she was already here, a little browsing sounded good

  • The Wife He Never Knew   Chapter 203: Julian Pays, Eleanor Tears Up the Invitation

Eleanor raised her eyelids slightly.Julian, reflected in her eyes, looked very sure of himself. As if she had gone to all this trouble to get revenge on him because she cared about how he'd behaved.Eleanor knew Julian had always been arrogant. And he had every reason to be.But for the first time, she found his arrogance a little amusing."You take yourself far too seriously."After tossing off that line, she turned and went back into Lowell Couture. Then she walked out with Lauren and got into the car.Julian's tall figure stayed at the shop entrance, still as a statue.Inside the shop, Cassandra was still waiting for Julian to come comfort her.But even when Joanna was about to close up, Julian still hadn't come in.Cassandra had no choice but to walk out on her own."Julian..."She rubbed her swollen eyes and called to him.Julian didn't react.Cassandra was startled. She couldn't guess what he was thinking so intently.Julian didn't come back to himself until someone laid on a l

Eleanor and Cassandra stared at each other.Eleanor had to admire her. Even at a moment like this, Cassandra hadn't forgotten to use Julian to provoke her.Cassandra had thought that after she said it, she would at least catch a flicker of suppressed pain in Eleanor's eyes.Since Eleanor had cut off her income, she had no intention of letting Eleanor have an easy time either. But Eleanor's gaze didn't change. Not only was there no pain, she even smiled."If Julian really loved you that much, do you think I could have revoked your membership so easily?"When Eleanor asked it, she was only turning the other woman's own tricks back on her.She honestly couldn't tell whether Julian didn't know about it, or knew and just hadn't acted yet.Unexpectedly, Cassandra's eyes suddenly turned red, and she exploded:"It's all your fault, you bitch! If it weren't for you, Julian would never have neglected me!"Cassandra raised her hand to slap Eleanor. Instead, Eleanor slapped her first.Eleanor hit

Eleanor was trying on dresses at Lowell Couture. Joanna had recently designed a few new styles and had asked her to come in and try them."Lauren, try this one on too."Eleanor picked up another dress and held it against Lauren."Ellie, I came here to help you pick a dress. How did it turn into you picking one for me?"Eleanor grinned. She needed a new dress for a banquet hosted by the jewelry industry association. As for buying one for Lauren, she was simply in a good mood, and she had the money."Let's get one thing straight. Even if you're rich now, I can't just take things from you for no reason. Or what? Are you actually trying to court me?"Lauren raised an eyebrow, and Eleanor laughed so hard she nearly fell over.Joanna watched from the side, a pleased smile on her face. She had always worried that Birdie would have a hard time after becoming Eleanor. But looking back, maybe it had been the right thing for Birdie to leave the Delacroix family. She was happier since she'd left.

Tyler rolled down the car window and stared into the park with wide eyes.Several cars stuck behind him honked their horns nonstop.Tyler finally eased his car over to the side of the road.He was certain he hadn't misread what he'd seen.Eleanor was with a man. That man had to be her high school classmate.Tyler had heard a little about this classmate. He knew the two of them were close.Still, seeing the man's scarf wrapped around Eleanor's neck in public made him deeply uncomfortable. He got out of the car and strode into the park."Eleanor, what a coincidence!"Eleanor was startled to hear Tyler's voice. How did he get here?As far as she remembered, this little park was remote, and the area around it was under construction. Even in high summer there were hardly any people, let alone on a snowy day like this.Tyler said casually, "I was just passing by and saw you two having a snowball fight. Mind if I join?"Eleanor: ???Are snowball fights really that appealing? She glanced inst

When Julian woke up, he was in the hospital. His memory was fragmented, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't piece it together. How had he gotten here?He didn't know.He couldn't remember at all.His last clear memory was of the night before. He had followed Eleanor in his car until she got into Anson's.After that, the stomach pain had hit him hard, and he'd slumped over the steering wheel.Whether he had fainted from the pain or simply fallen asleep, he couldn't say.He must have stayed in the car all night, not far from Eleanor's home on Willow Street.Julian slowly raised his eyelids. The door to the ward opened, and a nurse walked in."Excuse me..."When Julian spoke, he was startled by how weak his voice sounded."Who brought me to the hospital?"The nurse tilted her head, as if searching her memory, and answered, "I don't know either. He said he was just passing by and didn't know you...""Just passing by..."Julian frowned and asked again:"Was it a man or a woman?"T

"So you think I bullied Cassandra?"Eleanor's voice was barbed the moment she spoke.Julian felt a heaviness in his chest. He shook his head, meaning to say, "That's not what I meant."But before he could finish, Eleanor cut him off."If Mr. Cross feels sorry for his first love, he should hurry up and go after her instead of wasting my time here."After saying this indifferently, Eleanor turned and went to mingle with Edmund Rowe and the others. Her title now was Vale, and everyone in the jewelry design world wanted to talk to her.Julian watched helplessly as Eleanor was surrounded by the crowd, and realized he couldn't get a word in.What he'd actually wanted to ask was what exactly had happened when she'd been attacked by those thugs."Ellie was indeed in danger, but I arrived in time to save her... Is there anything else you want to ask?"Anson's gentle, refined voice came from behind Julian.Julian frowned and turned around."Vale..."His voice stopped abruptly after he'd barely
