Evelyn's POV

I stared at Sebastian for a second without moving. The rain was pouring down hard on the empty road at night. The black Rolls-Royce was parked next to me and it looked kind of surreal. Sebastian Sinclair was sitting in the seat looking calm as always. His black suit was perfect and his face was cold. His sharp eyes were looking at me in a way that I could not understand.

"Get in," he said again in a voice.

I shook my head slowly. "No need I can go home by myself."

Sebastian's eyes looked at my body quickly. My black dress was stuck to my skin because of the rain and my hands were shaking from the cold.

"You'll get sick."

"I'm fine."

"You're lying," he said quickly and calmly, which made me stop talking. I bit my lip softly. This man could always see through me more than Damien ever could.

The driver got out. I opened an umbrella then walked towards me. "Miss Evelyn, please get in. Mr. Sebastian doesn't like to repeat himself."

I almost said no again. The cold wind was making my head feel heavy. Honestly I was too tired to keep being stubborn.

In the end I got into the car.

The inside of the Rolls-Royce was warm and quiet which was really different from the storm outside. Soon as the door closed I could smell Sebastian's scent.

I sat as far away from Sebastian as possible.

"Should we go to the Sinclair mansion?" the driver asked.

"No."

I didn't want to go there.

Sebastian looked at me briefly. "Where?"

I didn't say anything.

That simple question made my chest feel empty.

Where was I supposed to go?

I didn't even know where my home was anymore.

My old apartment was sold after I married Damien and the Sinclair mansion was no longer a place I wanted to stay.

"I," my voice was weak. "I don't know yet."

Sebastian's face changed a little. His eyes looked deeper now.

Then he spoke to the driver. "Take us to the Riverside Residence."

I turned to him. "You don't have to trouble yourself-"

Sebastian just said, "You have a fever."

I was confused. "What?"

Sebastian let out a sigh like he was losing patience. Then he touched my forehead with his hand.

I froze.

His hand was cold compared to my skin. "You're burning up."

I leaned back a little. "Sorry."

Sebastian took his hand away. The atmosphere in the car felt strange.

My heart was beating a little faster.

Maybe it was because no man had been this close to me in the three years I was married to Damien.

I turned my face towards the window.

My vision was getting blurry. My head felt heavy. My body was shaking.

The last thing I remembered was Sebastian's voice calling my name.

When I opened my eyes I could smell medicine.

I blinked slowly a time before I realized I was in a hospital room.

My head felt heavy. My throat was dry.

I tried to sit up but a voice stopped me.

"Don't move yet."

I froze.

Damien was sitting beside my bed looking tired. His shirt was wrinkled and his hair was messy. He had dark circles under his eyes.

For a moment I just stared at him silently.

"I'm in the hospital?"

"You fainted because of a fever, " Damien said, standing up to help me. "The doctor said you were too exhausted."

I tensed when he touched me.

Damien acted like he didn't notice. He poured water into a glass. Handed it to me.

"Drink."

I hesitated for a second before taking the glass.

Damien watched me for a time. "I was looking for you tonight."

I looked down at the water. "Really?"

The room was silent for a moment.

"I went back to the mansion and they said you left alone." Damien said, his voice low. "Why didn't you call me?"

I almost laughed.

This man was unbelievable.

He cheated on me and left me alone at the party. Now he was asking why I didn't call him?

"Because I didn't want to see you."

Damien's face tightened for a moment. He still sat beside my bed.

"I know you hate me now."

I looked at him coldly. "Then stop acting like you care."

"I do care," he said quickly.

The sad part of me still reacted to him.

Because this was the Damien I used to love.

The man who would stay up all night to take care of me when I was sick.

Seeing him beside my bed made my resolve waver for a moment.

Maybe because part of me still hoped all of this was a nightmare.

Damien gently brushed my hair back. I wanted to avoid him. My body was too weak.

"I'll fix everything," he whispered softly.

My chest hurt.

The person I hated most at that moment wasn't Damien.

It was myself.

Because after being hurt like this I was still hurting because I loved him.

A hour later Damien left to talk to the doctor.

I decided to walk out of the room because my head was feeling a little better.

The hospital hallway was quiet that night. I walked slowly wrapping the cardigan around myself.

When I passed one of the corridors I stopped.

At the end of the hallway Damien was standing in front of the OB-GYN department.

My body froze.

A woman walked out of the room holding ultrasound results in her hand.

She was wearing a hat and a mask. I recognized her immediately.

The woman, from the hotel.

Damiens mistress.

What made my body feel cold was the way Damien was holding her waist.

Very carefully.

As if he was afraid something might happen to the baby she was carrying.

I stared at the ultrasound results in her hand. My breathing started trembling.

Then the doctor's voice could be heard faintly behind them.

"Congratulations, Mr. Sinclair. The baby is very healthy.”

Evelyn’s POVThe room went quiet after Sebastian said something. I saw the Sinclair family looking uncomfortable. Some guests were whispering to each other.Sebastian was still standing there with a glass of whiskey in his hand. His face was calm. His eyes seemed really sharp.Damien’s aunt let out a laugh. "Sebastian, we were just joking.""Really?" Sebastian's voice was low and cold. "It sounded like an insult to me."I just stood there frozen. No one in this family had ever stood up for me like that before. Not even Damien. My eyes met Sebastian's for a second. He looked away and started sipping his whiskey like nothing was wrong. Then Damien spoke up."That's enough," he said, his voice cold. "Having kids is none of your business, mine and Evelyn's."I was a little surprised to hear him say that.Because every time his family would criticize me about having kids Damien would just stay quiet.Damien's grandmother clicked her tongue. "We're just worried that the Sinclair family line

Evelyn’s POVMy hands trembled violently as I stared at the photo on my phone screen. It was that necklace. The crescent moon diamond necklace Damien gave me on our second wedding anniversary.I still remembered the way he fastened it around my neck himself while telling me I was the only woman who would stand by his side for the rest of his life. How ridiculous. Because now that necklace was hanging around his mistress’s neck.My stomach twisted with nausea. I didn’t even realize when Damien had stepped behind me until he suddenly snatched the phone from my hand. His face darkened instantly after reading the message.“Damn it.”I looked at him coldly. “So it really is my necklace.”Damien dragged a rough hand over his face as if frustrated. “Evelyn, listen to me. I can explain everything.”“Explain what?” My voice sounded far calmer than the devastation inside my chest. “That you gave your wife’s necklace to the woman you’re sleeping with?”“It’s not what you think.”I let out a quie

Evelyn’s POVI do not remember how I got home that night. The only things I remembered were the rain Damien’s voice calling my name from behind and the numbness spreading through my chest during the entire drive. The moment I arrived at the Sinclair mansion I locked myself inside my room.A room that once felt like home. Now it felt like a cage that suffocated me.I sat on the floor beside the bed while hugging my knees. My anniversary dress was still partially soaked, my hair was a mess and the makeup on my face had already been ruined by tears.Enough I was no longer crying.Maybe because the pain had already become too much.A soft knock suddenly came from the bedroom door."Evelyn.”Damien’s voice echoed from outside.I closed my eyes tightly."Open the door. We need to talk.”I did not answer.Several seconds passed in silence before his voice came again lower this time."Whatever you saw tonight it’s not what you think.”I almost laughed hearing that.Apparently cheating men all

Evelyn’s POV I stared at the small candle in the center of the table with a faint smile that was slowly becoming exhausting. The tiny flame flickered softly, casting a warm glow over the wine glass and the bouquet of white roses in front of me. This rooftop restaurant was beautiful. Too beautiful for someone who had been sitting alone for almost two hours. I glanced at the watch on my wrist. 9:43 PM. Damien still had not arrived. Again. “Excuse me, Madam. Would you like us to serve the food now?” the waiter asked carefully for the third time that night. I lifted my head and forced a polite smile. “Just a little longer.” A sentence even I no longer believed. Today was our third wedding anniversary. Three years of being Evelyn Sinclair, the wife of Damien Sinclair, the heir of the Sinclair family who always looked perfect in the eyes of the world. Young CEO. Handsome. Wealthy. Elegant. Nearly flawless. At least, that was what everyone believed. I lowered my gaze to the weddi
