Chapter 1

The moment I stepped out of the taxi, I saw it from a distance—a wedding portrait set up at the hotel entrance to welcome guests.

The bride in the photo was smiling sweetly, radiant and full of life. There was no mistaking her. It was my newlywed wife, Portia Reymus.

I strode forward and kicked the display over without hesitation.

The crash immediately drew the attention of the hotel security, who rushed over.

"Where the hell did this punk come from? How dare you vandalize Ms. Reymus and Mr. Wynham's wedding photo!"

I was about to speak when a vaguely familiar male voice sounded from behind me.

"The wedding cars are almost here. What's all the noise about? If anyone dares to ruin my wedding with Portia today, I'll make sure they're thrown out of Garthem City immediately."

The security guard instantly put on a fawning expression and hurried over.

"Mr. Wynham, this guy kicked over your wedding portrait. I'll have him removed right away!"

Then he turned to me, pointing as he barked, "You—get the hell out of here! Do you even know whose wedding this is? You've got a death wish causing trouble here? Don't plan on staying in Garthem City anymore, do you?"

I heard every word, yet it was as if none of it registered. My gaze was locked on the man standing not far away, dressed in a custom-tailored suit. The longer I looked, the more familiar he seemed.

And then it hit me. Wasn't he Lucas Wynham—the finance department intern assistant I had personally instructed Portia to fire three months ago?

The evidence of his fraudulent invoices and embezzlement was still sitting in my computer.

I had only been abroad for three months. And now, somehow, he had become the groom to my newlywed wife.

Before I could process it further, Lucas, clad in his high-end suit, had already walked up to me.

Since I rarely showed up at the company—and even meetings were mostly held via voice calls—he had no idea who I was. He simply stared at me with a dark expression, his tone icy.

"You've got some nerve kicking over my wedding photo. Do you even know who I am?"

I looked at him with a faint, mocking smile. "Who are you?"

He puffed out his chest, his voice brimming with arrogance and disdain.

"I'm the husband of Portia Reymus, the CEO of JP Group! If you piss me off, my wife will make sure you can't survive in Garthem City!"

I had already guessed what he was going to say. But hearing it out loud still felt like a hand had reached into my chest and squeezed my heart tight. It hurt—badly.

Seeing me fall silent, lips pressed together, Lucas mistook it for fear. His grin widened with smug satisfaction.

"What's wrong? You were acting pretty tough just now. Scared already? Tell you what—go pick up that wedding photo, then kneel and beg me for forgiveness. Do that, and I'll have my wife let you off."

I forced down the bitterness and anger churning inside me and said, "You said Portia is your wife?"

"Of course. The wedding photo's right there—what, you blind?"

"But three months ago, I just married Portia myself. Wedding photos? I've got plenty of those on my phone."

With that, I pulled out my phone, scrolled through, and displayed my wedding photos with Portia to the gathered crowd.

The moment they saw the bride's face clearly, shock spread across their expressions.

I never expected that, in order to force me to yield, Portia would stoop to spreading lies online. She posted a story claiming that I had abandoned the wife who had worked alongside her all these years, just to marry a wealthy, well-connected heiress. Then she hired a swarm of influencers and online trolls to stir up trouble in the comments. The internet, already full of anti-rich sentiment, reacted immediately. People blindly read her post and began flooding Parker Group's official accounts with malicious insults. In no time, the company's stock took a significant hit.As I scrolled through the comment section, my phone rang. I glanced at it—a number I didn't recognize. But instinct told me who it was.Sure enough, when I answered, Portia's smug voice came through."Jordan, you've seen my post, haven't you? I hear Parker Group's stock dropped quite a bit today because of it. I could clear things up online for you, of course, but only if you agree to my terms."I already knew t

Lucas shoved Portia hard, sending her sprawling to the ground."Portia, I let that slap go because you still had some value. Don't push your luck. What I just suggested isn't only for me—it's for your own good too. You don't want JP Group to go under just like that, do you? And if Jordan really takes a liking to you, shouldn't you be happier than anyone?"And just like that, Portia actually took his advice and came looking for me again. The day I was discharged from the hospital, she dressed up and waited at the entrance. But no matter how thick her makeup was, it couldn't hide the dark circles under her eyes or the exhaustion in her face.It was obvious she hadn't been doing well these past few days. The moment she saw me, her dull eyes lit up instantly.Ignoring the bodyguards trying to stop her, she stumbled forward, reaching out as if to grab my hand."Jordan… honey… I finally get to see you. I've missed you so much these past few days! I was wrong. I'm so sorry. Honey, ple

I had been the one pouring money into JP Group, over and over again.I never intended for Portia to find out.But during the annual audit, she discovered it anyway. She didn't ask where the money came from. She only said to treat it as my wedding gift to her. And once JP Group was on the right track, she would marry me.Because of that one sentence, I gave even more of myself—holding nothing back as I helped her.And what did I get in return? A fake marriage certificate. At the thought, I turned directly to the bodyguards stationed outside the door."I don't know that crazy woman. Have the hospital security throw her out. And don't let her come within a step of this hospital again. Otherwise, the hospital director can find someone else to take his place."Unable to see me—and with the court refusing to unfreeze her company's funds—Portia's situation spiraled.Employees, unpaid, had already begun to strike.Left with no choice, she started selling her cars and properties. But

Back when we got married, Portia had said she only wanted a wedding that belonged to the two of us alone. So we hadn't invited a single guest to our wedding.Naturally, my parents hadn't attended either. In fact, today I had originally planned to bring her to meet my parents over New Year's Eve dinner—and finally tell her everything about my family. Now, all I felt was relief. Relief that I hadn't brought a woman like her in front of my parents to stain their eyes.So I simply said three words, my voice flat, "You're not worthy."Portia, a marriage certificate is an official government document. Forging one is a criminal offense. And under the pretense of marriage and a relationship, you induced me to invest heavily into JP Group—that constitutes fraud. I will pursue both matters to the very end."I stared at her, enunciating every word with icy clarity. Her face turned deathly pale as she shook her head frantically."No… I didn't! You did it willingly! You were the one who pro

The roar of the helicopters was deafening, yet every single person present heard the announcement over the loudspeaker loud and clear. They stared at one another, shock written all over their faces."The Parker family? Do they mean that Parker family—the most influential family in the country?""The announcement said one of us is the heir of the Parker family… how is that even possible?""Didn't Ms. Reymus just call this guy Jordan Parker? Don't tell me he's the one they're talking about!"Hearing the murmurs, disbelief filled Portia's eyes as well."They're here for you?"Before I could answer, she shook her head, rejecting the idea outright."How could you possibly be the Parker family's heir? That's ridiculous! You told me yourself your parents were just ordinary people."Lucas forced a calm smile."Portia, baby, don't scare yourself. This has to be a coincidence. Look at the way he's dressed—so shabby. How could he be the Parker family's heir?"The moment he finished spea

"In your house? You expect us to go back with you?" the lead officer scoffed. "And once we get there, are you going to claim it's somewhere else? What, you think we're monkeys here for your amusement?"I'm warning you—if you don't want to spend New Year's in detention for spreading rumors, you'd better stop causing trouble."The police didn't give me another chance to speak. They turned and walked away.Seeing even the officers dismiss me as a liar, the onlookers no longer had any doubts. The way they looked at me was filled with contempt."If even the police don't believe him, he's obviously lying.""Ms. Reymus is really unlucky to be harassed by a freak like this. Mr. Wynham, you've got to teach him a lesson and help her vent her anger!"I was forced back onto my knees in front of Portia and Lucas. They pressed my head hard against the ground."You filthy bastard, start begging for forgiveness!""One hundred times. Not one less. Otherwise, don't even think about leaving here
