“So... it’s true. He really is Rafael’s uncle.”

Lexie whispered to herself in disbelief, fingers clicking rhythmically on the mouse as she scrolled through article after article. Images of him were everywhere. Ram Jordan. Wealthy, intimidating, powerful... and, as of this very moment, the only thing she could think about.

“What are you looking at?”

Lexie jumped in surprise, slamming her laptop shut as her cousin Claire’s voice cut through her thoughts. She spun around with a frown.

“Whatever I’m doing doesn’t concern you, Claire.”

Her tone was sharper than intended, but she didn’t care. She wasn’t even sure why she’d fallen into this rabbit hole of researching Ram instead of reviewing for her law exam. Somehow, seeing his face had given her something else to obsess over—something that wasn’t Amanda and Rafael’s betrayal.

“Wait... is he seriously rich rich?” Claire leaned forward, trying to peek at the laptop.

Lexie barely acknowledged her, muttering under her breath again.

“Unbelievable. He’s not just rich—he’s obscenely rich.”

Claire’s brows lifted. “Lex, you’ve officially lost it. Are you stalking some billionaire now?”

Lexie sighed and glared at her. “I’m not stalking anyone. Now can you please leave me alone?”

“I’d love to, believe me, but no can do. Grandpa’s calling a family meeting at the hotel, and you’re expected to be there too. His words, not mine.”

Lexie blinked. “Why now?”

“Because Amanda and the guy are doing some big presentation or whatever. Something about the wedding.”

Lexie clenched her jaw. “Of course. The wedding.”

“They’re acting like this whole thing is some grand love story, not a total dumpster fire.” Claire paused, then added, “Honestly, I don’t know how they thought you would actually show up.”

Lexie crossed her arms. “I’m not going. I don’t care what Grandpa wants.”

Lexie’s heels struck the hotel’s marble floors with fury. Her refusal to attend the meeting had lasted all of ten minutes before Claire—and a passive-aggressive call from her mother—forced her into the car.

Now here she was, walking straight into enemy territory.

The family-owned hotel, usually a place of comfort, now felt like a cage.

“Fix your face, Lex. You look like you’re ready to commit murder,” Claire muttered beside her.

“Then maybe people should stop giving me reasons to,” Lexie shot back coldly.

Claire held up her hands in surrender. “Just saying. Maybe dial down the homicidal energy. For Grandpa’s sake.”

Lexie ignored her. She had no interest in pretending to be civil—not when she was about to be trapped in a room with the two people who’d gutted her heart.

As they reached the lounge, Lexie’s footsteps slowed. Through the glass doors, she saw them. Her entire family, gathered together, laughing over coffee like it was any other day.

And among them was him.

Rafael.

Her ex-fiancé. The man who had sworn he loved her—while sleeping with her cousin behind her back.

Lexie’s expression turned to stone. She walked in slowly, head held high. The second her presence registered, the room fell into uncomfortable silence.

Good.

She offered no greeting, no fake smile. Just walked straight to a seat by the glass wall and sat down like she belonged there more than anyone.

“H-hi, Lexie. H-how are you?”

Amanda’s voice cracked nervously. Lexie didn’t even look at her. Her gaze flicked briefly to Rafael, who had the nerve to look... worried.

Please.

She turned her eyes toward her grandfather instead, who sat at the head of the table with his usual stern composure, silently observing.

Lexie tilted her head, amused.

How could they all sit here, sipping tea and making wedding plans like this wasn’t insane?

“So...” she finally said, her voice loud in the quiet room, “are we just going to pretend everything’s fine and chat about flowers and venue options? Or are we going to talk about the fact that this wedding is a complete joke?”

Her grandfather’s eyes narrowed. “Lexie. Mind your tone.”

She didn’t flinch.

“Sorry. I just thought we were all done pretending. Guess not.” Her eyes locked with Amanda’s. “You know, acting like none of this is messed up takes a lot of nerve.”

“Lexie, sweetheart, please—” her grandfather tried again.

“No. Let’s not do this. Amanda and Rafael don’t want to talk about what they did. They just want us all to play along so they can feel good about it.”

Amanda’s cheeks flushed. She stared at the table.

“Maybe you should leave if you’re going to make this harder than it already is,” she mumbled.

Lexie slowly turned to face her. Her laugh was soft, bitter. “Oh, I’m sorry. Is this hard for you, Amanda?”

Amanda winced.

“Why am I even here? You invited me to humiliate me again? To twist the knife a little deeper? You want a reaction? Fine.”

Her voice trembled as she stood, hands clenched at her sides.

“You two wrecked everything. And now you want a party to celebrate it?” she asked, voice rising.

“Lexie, stop—” a cousin tried to intervene.

“No, you stop!” she snapped. “They don’t get to play house and pretend they didn’t betray me in the worst possible way.”

Amanda stood, eyes brimming with tears. “I didn’t mean for this to happen. I swear, Lex. I’m sorry. I—I feel awful.”

Lexie let out a hollow laugh.

“Oh please. You feel awful? That’s your big excuse? That you feel bad now?”

“You never even let us explain—” Amanda started.

“Because I shouldn’t have had to ask. You were my cousin, Amanda. Rafael was your best friend. I trusted you both. I convinced myself I was just being paranoid. I told myself it was all in my head. But it wasn’t, was it?”

Amanda lowered her head.

Lexie’s voice shook, but she kept going. “And today? You show up here like you’re some blushing bride-to-be, dragging me into this charade?”

Her eyes were wild with pain.

“You didn’t just betray me—you took something from me like a thief in the night. A petty, heartless thief.”

Amanda sobbed.

“Don’t you dare ask me for forgiveness,” Lexie hissed. “You don’t deserve it.”

She yanked her arm free as Amanda tried to reach for her again.

Then she turned to Rafael.

“And you. You’re just as bad. You destroyed us. And you’re going to regret it.”

She spun on her heel and marched out, her heart racing. The tears she’d been fighting finally broke free as she stormed down the hallway.

“Lexie!” Claire called after her.

She didn’t stop.

Until she slammed full-speed into something—or someone.

“Shit—are you okay?” a voice asked, strong hands catching her as she stumbled.

Lexie looked up, breath catching.

Her lips parted in disbelief.

“Ram Jordan?”

“Lexie?” he said at the same time, brow raised.

“I—I’m sorry. I wasn’t looking,” she said, cheeks flushed, eyes flickering over his perfectly tailored suit... and the body beneath it.

He’s even hotter in real life...

Ram smiled, still holding her steady.

“No harm done. You sure you’re alright?”

Lexie nodded. “Yeah. Just... rough day.”

And then the thought hit her.

Like a wicked spark igniting inside her chest.

Maybe today didn’t have to be a total disaster.

Maybe Ram Jordan—Rafael’s powerful, enigmatic uncle—was the answer.

Her revenge didn’t have to be loud.

It just had to be smart.

And devastating.

Lexie shot up from her deep sleep, startled by loud, persistent knocks on her front door. Groggily, she glanced at the digital clock on her nightstand and sighed in frustration—it was barely 6:00 AM. "Lexie?" She heard her name again, accompanied by even more insistent knocks. From the voice, she knew instantly—it was her lying, cheating ex, Rafael. "Great, what a perfect time to ruin someone's sleep," she muttered under her breath, barely getting out of bed, not to open the door but to shoo away her unwanted visitor. "Lexie, I know you're in there. Please open the door." "What the hell are you doing here? Get lost!" she shouted, but Rafael kept knocking, practically trying to break her door down. With no other choice, she swung the door open. "What?!" she snapped, the door flying wide. Rafael stood there, eyes pleading, holding a huge bouquet of red roses. "Let’s talk," he said, his voice full of desperation. "I told you, get lost!" she spat, trying to slam the door, but Raf

"How’d it go?" Claire asked immediately, even before Lexie had fully stepped inside the door. Lexie just rolled her eyes and walked straight in without saying a word. "From the way you're ignoring me, I’m guessing ‘Operation Get Lexie Laid’ didn’t work out?" Her cousin teased, flashing a mischievous grin as she followed Lexie into the kitchen. "Fine, it didn’t work. That guy just kept turning me down. Why do I feel like this whole plan is a terrible idea?" Lexie pouted, throwing her bag onto the kitchen counter with a huff. She scowled as she remembered how Ram Jordan had kept rejecting her earlier. "Wow, you’re only just realizing that?" Claire teased again, earning another eye roll from Lexie. "No, I’m going to make him want me. Like, really want me, Claire." She said, staring at her cousin, completely serious. "Wait, let me get this straight. You’re seriously going to push yourself to give your virginity to this guy, even though he keeps shutting you down?" "Yep, that’s t

Lexie exhaled deeply, trying to steady her breath. She forced herself to stay calm, even as the memory of their kiss—the kiss with Ram—played over and over in her mind like a broken record. “Okay, it was a good kiss, maybe even too good, but seriously… get a grip, Lexie,” she muttered to herself, glancing around at the mini bar. "You alright?" Lexie almost dropped the shot glass in her hand when Ram spoke up unexpectedly. "Y-yeah, I’m good. Thanks," she replied, offering a tight smile. "Actually, no, I’m not fine. How are you so calm after that kiss?" she blurted out, unable to hold it in anymore. Ram chuckled, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Well, it’s not my first time kissing someone." He said it so casually, his smile sweet and easy. "Yeah, because you've had your fair share of women, right?" Lexie shot back with sarcasm, rolling her eyes. "You nailed it. But seriously, stop thinking about that kiss. It shouldn’t have happened," Ram said, the tone in his voice shifting t

It was still dark when Lexie woke up, and she immediately grabbed her head as a sharp pain shot through her temple. "Ouch…" She let out a soft groan, trying to sit up, but found herself unable to move as something heavy was draped over her waist. She felt dizzy, likely from all the alcohol she’d consumed the night before. Her throat was parched, and she knew a glass of cold water was the only thing that could help. A smile tugged at Lexie’s lips when she turned her head and saw that the person lying next to her was none other than Ram Jordan. 'Wow… this guy’s a real looker.' She whispered to herself, her smile growing. Her hands seemed to move on their own, reaching out to caress Ram’s face while he slept, but she quickly snapped out of it and pulled her hand back before it could touch his skin. 'What the hell?' She whispered again. Why was she feeling like this? Sure, this man was a total stud. If she compared him to Rafael, her lying, cheating ex, she could easily say that R

"Oh, looks like your plan worked out, huh? What’s going on?" Claire, Lexie’s cousin, asked right away. She was clearly still waking up, yawning as she made her way to the kitchen, probably to grab some water. Lexie rolled her eyes at her cousin and glanced at the clock on the living room wall. The clock read 9:15 AM, which made Lexie pause. Something was off. It wasn’t like Claire to sleep in this late. Lexie was about to ask what was going on when a man, probably in his 40s, stepped out of Claire’s room. He was only wearing a towel wrapped around his waist, and what Lexie saw made her freeze. The man didn’t seem to notice her, smiling as he saw Claire. Her cousin even raised her glass of water like she was offering him a drink. "Good morning, babe." Claire greeted him sweetly. He stepped up to her and kissed her on the lips. That kiss made Lexie grimace in disgust. "Uh, hello? There's someone else here. Maybe you’d like to acknowledge my presence, or better yet, get a room f

Lexie sat quietly in Ram Jordan’s car, feeling like a child being reprimanded by a strict parent. She had no idea why he was so upset, but his face was so tightly drawn that no artist could ever capture the depth of his anger. "Seriously, Lexie. This attitude of yours is absolutely ridiculous!" Ram snapped, giving her a sharp glare before turning his attention back to the road. Lexie fought the urge to roll her eyes, knowing it would only make him angrier. Arguing with someone like Ram Jordan would lead nowhere. What was the point in fighting when she already knew she’d lose in the end? It would be a waste of both time and energy. "What the hell’s gotten into you, Lexie?" Ram's frustration grew, but Lexie stayed silent, releasing a deep sigh instead of responding. "I know you’re young, but walking out of your house practically half-naked? Jesus, Lexie, how do you expect anyone to take you seriously?" He went on, clearly exasperated, and hit the steering wheel in frustration. Lex

"Ram Jordan is such a grumpy old man..." Lexie muttered to herself in frustration as she finally recovered from the shock after Ram slammed the door shut. "Well, he's a grumpy hot uncle, surely not an old man," She whispered again as she tiptoed toward the gigantic closet, which she thought was even bigger than her apartment's bathroom. Lexie felt a twinge of jealousy, realizing how wealthy he was. "Wealthy-slash-grumpy-slash-freakishly handsome Uncle Ram," Lexie sang while waving her hands as if following a nonexistent beat. She slipped on a huge white t-shirt that looked more like a dress than a tee and suddenly considered keeping her denim short shorts. She finished her look by tying her hair into a bun and smiled after glancing at her reflection in the mirror. She looked like a teenager trying too hard to be a gangster. After making sure she looked presentable, she quickly moved to leave the room, knowing that Ram was already waiting for her for lunch. Based on his express

“This is what you want, baby?” Ram whispered, his voice tender yet laced with a hint of danger. Lexie couldn't deny the lack of fear or worry; she was locked in Ram Jordan's arms, and he was kissing her passionately and wildly. This was exactly what she wanted, so she felt she had no right to be afraid, and certainly no right to worry. She had provoked this man, who had bluntly rejected her advances before, into intimacy; she was the one who had lured him into making love to her. With that thought, Lexie closed her eyes and savored Ram's every touch. Moments later, her lips moved instinctively, responding to his passionate kiss. The room smelled faintly of daisies, though she knew it was just a storage room. The scent didn't register; her attention was completely consumed by the man who was wreaking havoc on her senses. “Hmmm…” Lexie moaned as she felt his hand caress her breasts. It was as if Ram Jordan were a skilled pastry chef expertly kneading dough—except the dough was her br

It had been three days, and Ram Jordan was still in the hospital. The fact that he hadn’t regained consciousness yet was making her anxious and worried. "Lexie, I called you here so you could rest, yet here you are pacing around like some kind of maniac. Can you please calm down?" Her cousin Claire scolded her, giving her a displeased look. "Oh, Claire, how can I calm down? My husband was shot, twice, and he’s still unconscious in the hospital! I’m worried sick, Claire... And you? What are you doing here? Weren’t you supposed to be at Amanda’s funeral?" Lexie asked her cousin before dropping down on the sofa, feeling the fatigue wash over her. Claire sat beside her. "I was at the funeral. Lexie didn’t agree to stay at the house when Ram decided to head straight to the nearby police station. Addy and their daughter Macy were also insisting on going. Fortunately, Ram was able to convince them to stay behind because it would be too dangerous if they brought the kids along. However, Rafael’s daughter was persistent. They couldn’t do anything when she spoke, especially since Lexie knew she had a point. ‘I know what happened, I’m the only witness here. If you need someone right now, it’s me. And if you want to punish my evil father, I want to be there to witness it. So please, let me go with you.’ Those were the exact words she said. Even Addy, who was sitting in the back seat of the car, seemed filled with anger, too much anger, and Lexie knew that was not safe, especially for a child like Addy. Lexie slowly leaned forward to Ram, who was driving quietly. It was funny how none of them dared to speak—not a single word—and she understood why. She could feel the anger n

She quickly wrapped her arms around him and sighed again.“I would be lying if I said I am fine, I feel sad, devastated, mad… Amanda and I never had the best relationship as cousins, but we sure did share the best memories together.
