If our speed doesn't drop below 100 miles per hour, it will take us twelve hours to drive from the human-populated city back to Silver Mountain Pack.
This is the only land travel I hate the most. The route was not bad, but we had to take a parallel road to the perimeter line of the River Bed Pack.
Though Silver Mountain and River Bed are not considered enemy packs, we are not allies either. We share a two-hundred-mile boundary line with them, requiring nearly a third of our warriors to take several shifts on border patrol to avoid rogue or non-pack incursion.
They do the same from their side of the perimeter line. Most of our border patrols engage in glowering and growling contests with theirs at any given time, or so I’ve heard from my father’s Delta and Gamma.
I was wasted last night and swiftly drifted into a deep sleep the moment Arci stepped foot on the accelerator.
I don’t know how long I slept, but I was startled awake when Six started getting restless. “How far have we reached, Arci?” I ask while rubbing my eyes, trying to adjust to the sunlight.
“We are still halfway. Do you want to freshen up? Ten miles down the road, there is a gas station and a diner,” Arci responded through the rearview mirror. He pointed to the road sign on our left, which featured a cutlery symbol and a pumping station.
“That’s not necessary, Arci, where exactly are we? Six is getting fidgety, he is howling in my head, and it’s giving me a headache,” I blurted as I glanced outside the window, rubbing my temple with index and middle fingers in a circular motion.
“The whole stretch on our right belongs to the Riverbed Pack. Oh, I forgot, we cannot stop anytime soon. This is not a friendly territory. You can freshen up after we pass the pack territory,” Arci murmured as he increased the car speed.
After about five minutes, my wolf started acting nuts again, but this time, his level of crazy intensified. He wanted to take over. He growls loudly, terrifying Arci, who nearly loses control of the vehicle. The car made a hundred-eighty-degree turn, burning the tires screeching as we nearly collided with another vehicle from the opposite direction. Both the cars stopped a few inches from smashing the bumpers.
My left hand grabbed the front passenger’s backseat tightly, and my right hand was pressed against the glass window. The seatbelt did a great job of keeping me in place, but the sudden circular motion churned my stomach and gave my head a hammering pain. The barf got stuck in my throat, but I swallowed it again. I can’t mess up the car’s expensive leather scent. I know it’s gross, but I am just being logical and considerate.
Arci promptly removed his seatbelt, exited the car, and opened the backdoor next to my seat. “What the hell was that all about, Seb? Talk to me!” He scolded. He is not being disrespectful. Arci is like a family to the Alpha family and the only one aside from the ranked members who can call me and my brother Aleck by first name.
We are now facing the direction in which we came from: the human world. I stepped out of the car and steadied myself before emptying my stomach in the middle of the road. Arci handed me a bottle of water to wash my mouth, and I took it immediately.
He put his hand on my shoulder, instructing me to stay inside the car. He assured me that he would settle with the other vehicle if there were damages. I understand the danger of dealing with strangers in unfamiliar territory, especially from a hostile pack. But I did not listen to my driver slash bodyguard. I want to find out why my wolf is suddenly acting strange. Could it be the passenger of the jeep?
“What the hell, Six? You almost killed us!” I chastised my wolf.
“I sensed our mate!” He screamed. “They are near!”
“Are you sure? We are in the middle of nowhere, Six,” I sighed. “We can’t just stroll around and sniff everyone to find our mate. The area is almost barren!” I added.
Although there are establishments to cater to travelers every half mile or so, like repair shops, restaurants, pumping stations, and some shabby hotels owned by humans, we can’t be sure if they are just fronts for some rogues spying on werewolves and other supernatural creatures in the area.
The driver of the other vehicle waved at us before sliding his head out of the window. " Is everything alright in there?” he probed.
Arci waved back. “Yeah, I’ll come over,” he responded. He turned to me and asked, “Are you alright, Seb? You can stay here, wait for me in the car. This won’t take long. The driver looks cool to me…” he paused. “You can call your father if you want; he should know. " His eyes spoke more than he said. He must be worried about the location of the ‘near accident’ we just experienced. He took the water bottle back, stuffed it in the backseat, and started walking to meet the driver of another vehicle. Suddenly, we sighted a group of warriors, werewolves in their human forms, jogging along the perimeter line of Riverbed Pack from our left. They must be the border patrol.
I stiffened when my eyes locked with the most chiseled man in front of the group. He was bare-chested, as with the rest of the guys.
It’s strange. They are at least a hundred meters away, but I can see him as if he were in front of me. Everything and everyone else was blurry. They all wear cerulean-colored sweatpants, seemingly a pack uniform, unless they are awfully close to each other to wear identical clothing, which I highly doubt. I know that twinning attires has become an “in” thing for couples, but aside from a sports team, I haven’t seen a group wearing the same outfit just because they like it. My thoughts were abruptly interrupted when Six started chanting in my head.

AgathaIt has been eight years since we started reuniting the supernatural species by building colonies for each kind. But the colonies we built never reached full occupancy. All the mystical creatures prefer their natural environment to concrete boxes. That’s what they call the rooms and buildings in the colony. Nate and Bastien managed to extend the forest line occupied by our little friends by offering the nearby packs hard-to-resist business deals and warrior support in case of war. The River Bed Pack had only gotten stronger and bigger, claiming the Nightwalker Pack when the River Bed defeated them after attacking us using the same strategy that the Black Moon Pack employed thirteen years ago. I never lifted the protection spell in the River Bed Pack. And since our family has gotten bigger, too, I cast the same spell around the Silver Mountain, Black Moon, and Nightwalker Packs. The news of the protection spell spread across territories, and though we don’t plan to launch an atta
[Agatha’s POV]I cannot see anything. There’s darkness, silence, and a dreadful feeling that churns my insides. I could feel the goosebumps creeping on my skin, and a sense of discomfort crawled down my spine. Where am I? Why can’t I see anything? Why am I alone? Where’s Mom? Where’s Nate and Bastien? Where are my kids? Aren’t they supposed to be with me? I move my feet forward to search for a light, for a familiar place… The squishing sound was all I could hear with every step. The touch of soft mud swallows my feet up until my ankles. I don’t like where I am right now. I tried to squint my eyes as I scanned my surroundings. But there is nothing but pitch black. I opened my mouth and started calling everyone I knew, one by one. “Mom!”“Nate!”“Bastien!”“Nas!”“Sean!”“Amara!”“Mommy Lily!”“Mommy Gloria!”“Dad!”“Aunt….”“Tsk. tsk. Tsk. You forgot one name, my child,” a female electric voice echoed in the empty space I am in, cutting me off. And I’d be damned if I said I didn’t re
[Agatha’s POV]The day has finally come. I was nervous. My hands were sweaty, my stomach was churning, and the tightness in my chest kept coming back repeatedly. I looked around at the open field where all species started filling up from the morning. The colonies my mates built for other species were barely occupied, but we expect a few hundred to arrive anytime within the day. Orpheus volunteered to convince some of his kind, and they might come after sunset, too. Nate built another building without windows, with only two doors on the ground floor and another to the rooftop, designed for the vampire clan. One of the new business deals Bastien signed up for was the River Bed Blood Bank. We compensate humans who donate their blood and distribute blood bags to human hospitals in neighboring packs at a fixed discounted rate. In return, we get to buy the blood near the end of its shelf life at half the price. Some hospitals in other packs are even willing to give them for free just to g
Hey guys, We are a few chapters away from completion. And as much as I wanted to make the story longer by adding additional twists and turns, it's already longer than planned. It was initially a 75-ish chapter, but I later realized that some details would be abruptly cut, hence the extension. Anyway, I am beyond grateful to all of you for reading and staying with Agatha until this point. This is my first shot at storytelling, and I need you to be brutal on me in the comment section if you think there are "should-haves" that I overlooked. And I do hope for your support for the coming stories.Warm hugs for all of you,ConQuest
[Third POV]It’s been five years. Nas and Sean started warrior training at the indoor gym their dad had set up inside the Packhouse, while Amara started using the U9 to practice her magic when she was two years old. The triplets were inseparable. Amara joined the boys at the gym for the combat training, and the boys would practice magic with their sister. On most days, no one gets injured, but sometimes, the boys are unlucky.“What is your schedule this week, baby?” Bastien asked Agatha as he stepped out of the walk-in closet. He wore a custom-made suit that matched Nate’s. Their tailor customized their wardrobe in twinning, just as much as Nas and Sean’s. In the same way, Agatha and Amara often wear identical white sundresses with tiny floral designs, except when Agatha is traveling to the coven or to distant places to meet community leaders of other species. Then, she would wear a simple dress beneath her cloak.“I am staying in for the week. I think I need some rest. Mom also notic
[Agatha POV]It has been a week since I have given birth to our triplets. I walk slowly and easily now with slight discomfort in my stitches. I felt like a kid being supervised by townspeople; I was not allowed to lift anything, not even the babies. I breastfed while sitting or lying down, and there was always someone tailing me once I got on my feet. The alpha floor of the packhouse is full. Bastien’s parents have stayed with us, and we decided that all the grandparents must stay with us on the Alpha floor for fairness' sake. Mommy Lily said they will stay until the naming ceremony is over. I had never heard of the naming ceremony before. Still, since she is the only she-wolf and a former Luna who knew all the formalities and ceremonies in the werewolf community, I trust her judgment on everything pack-related. Not that it’s not important to me because it does, but I wanted my children to experience the best of both worlds. Mom also said that they would give protective gifts to our ch
