Before I could react, the leader of the border patrol jumped over the six-foot-high barbed boundary line.

The scrambling of the other pack warriors follows him, but I can barely understand what they are saying. Arci stood in front of me with his right hand twisted backward, pinning me between the car and him. His knees were slightly bent, ready to shift in a fly to fight if need be.

The leader stopped barely three steps away from Arci, but his predatory eyes never left mine. The rest of the group caught up, and Arci spread his arms for the barricade, ordering me to get inside the car and drive as fast as I could.

He was ready to sacrifice himself for me. There was no way any of us would survive this fight. But what kind of Alpha would I be if I ran away with tails between my legs at the first sign of trouble, leaving my driver behind? I stood tall, not breaking my gaze on their leader, who just cleared his throat.

“I want to speak with him,” the leader tilted his head slightly to the left as he shifted his eyes from me to Arci and back. He is instructing my driver to move aside. He raised his right hand in the air to signal his men to move back, and so they did. I put my hand on Arci’s shoulder before stepping sideways. “It’s okay, Arci,” I whispered and tilted my head to the side. He was hesitant to move away, but he eventually obeyed.

“I won’t be far, Alpha!” he stated in finality. I admire Arci’s dedication to his job. He did not break his gaze at the pack leader before taking a couple of steps to the side.

“So, you are a young Alpha!” It's a statement as he stole a glance at the Silver Mountain Pack’s emblem on my car. He was confirming what he had heard.

“Future Alpha!” I clarified. “No need to get too excited. My death will not affect my pack, someone else will take over if I don’t make it today!”

“Who’s talking about death? I just want to meet you.”

He took another step forward, “Can’t you feel it?” he asked.

I know where this is going, but my mind was so jumbled. Maybe I just refused to accept Six’s chanting. “What are you talking about?”

“Really? Are you f*cking serious right now?”

“What  the hell?” I growl. He is being disrespectful. “And who the hell are you? You are such a coward to declare war against my pack, so you decided to f*cking ambush me?” I tried to brave myself against the battle that we had already lost if this was indeed an attack. “Do you think my pack will take this lightly?” I added.

He moved two steps forward until we were facing each other, inches apart. He looked me straight in the eyes with furrowed brows. “I am Nathaniel Simons, the Alpha of the Riverbed Pack, and you are my mate!”

*****

It’s been three years since I found my mate. This has been both a blessing and a curse. How can the Moon Goddess be so cruel as to pair me with another man? She connected me with my mate and cut me off from my family…..

My parents taught me and Aleck to respect the mate bond since we were pups. The idea of turning 18 always made us antsy because then, we could scent our Goddess-given fated mates. The anticipation sends an uncanny frenzy and weird excitement. I was also shit scared to find out who the Moon Goddess paired me with. Dad said there would be a strong pull, but what if there’s none? Should I reject them?

I wonder how she does it. I mean… Does the Moon Goddess use something like the ball-drawing machine used in the lottery for pairing? Or something that resembles a casino roulette with a wheel full of werewolves or she-wolves’ photos spread across the slots to be paired with the one on the 22mm ball spin? It must be because it sure feels like a gamble relying on the mate bond if you ask me.

On the second thought…..

I am grateful for the mate bond my parents shared and their parents before them. They were like the nagging reminder about the blessings the mate bond brings and how it can strengthen the pack…. against the chosen one, at least for Alphas.

I equally respect werewolves who choose their mates. Not everyone is lucky to meet their fated mates, or so I heard. Many tales circulate that only a third of the werewolf population gets to meet their Goddess-given mates. The rest were chosen. That’s like a twisted joke that only a third of the population is blessed by the goddess, and I’m not even laughing.

I am the firstborn and the next Alpha of the Silver Mountain Pack. We are one of the biggest packs in the region, but strangely lesser-known. My father, Herod Black, was not a fan of outside collaboration and did it only when it was necessary to improve the lives of our pack members. This means it has to be the only option available. My mother, Lilian Black, supports my father fully, blindly even.

The pack survived abundantly for many generations through the meticulous effort of my grandfather and my great-grandfather in developing and utilizing pack-produced resources. We are self-sufficient, to say the least. Pack members are highly skilled in agriculture and aquaculture. With half the pack borders attached to the sea or water streams, fish and other aquatic products are our staples. Our factories and manufacturing sectors are on a steady rise, providing what the pack needs and selling some surplus to neighboring territories and allied packs.

Not long ago, my parents bravely founded a pack-owned tech company that worked with several private firms owned by pack members with deep pockets. This helped our revenues steadily rise and kept us abreast of the latest trends. Technology keeps our pack borders well-monitored. It is equipped with motion sensors and a scheduled drone surveillance system from five towers located in sensitive and hard-to-monitor areas, including the perimeter line separating us from the River Bed pack. This keeps our pack secure and members safe.

It is boring, though. Although we are safe and well-provided, people are mostly laid-back, doing only what they are tasked to do in their routines. They do an excellent job but lack the challenges or motivation to level up.

“You are not going to accept that mate bond with another Alpha Seb, I forbid you,” Dad roared angrily. For some unknown reason, he always despised River Bed Pack. I knew this reaction was coming.

“Dad, the moon goddess paired us.”

“NO! IT’S NOT HAPPENING, SEB!” He was panting, and his hands were trembling. I fear he will shift into his wolf. Mom came to rub his shoulder to calm him, and it worked for a while.

“I swear Seb, if you accept that mate bond, forget you have a family at Silver Mountain Pack. I will give the position of the head alpha to Aleck and you will be dead to us.” Mom wept loudly, her lips quivered, and tears streamed down her face to no end.

Father was true to his word. He didn’t even flinch. He didn’t even bat an eyelid….

“I, Herod Black, Head Alpha of the Silver Mountain Pack disown you, Sebastian Black, as my son and next head Alpha of the pack. I sever all ties between you and the Silver Mountain Pack and strip you of all the privileges. You shall leave the pack, and from this day forward live as a rogue.”

My father’s words echoed in my head over and over again.

He disowned me.

I’m a rogue.

  • The Witch Luna   Epilogue

AgathaIt has been eight years since we started reuniting the supernatural species by building colonies for each kind. But the colonies we built never reached full occupancy. All the mystical creatures prefer their natural environment to concrete boxes. That’s what they call the rooms and buildings in the colony. Nate and Bastien managed to extend the forest line occupied by our little friends by offering the nearby packs hard-to-resist business deals and warrior support in case of war. The River Bed Pack had only gotten stronger and bigger, claiming the Nightwalker Pack when the River Bed defeated them after attacking us using the same strategy that the Black Moon Pack employed thirteen years ago. I never lifted the protection spell in the River Bed Pack. And since our family has gotten bigger, too, I cast the same spell around the Silver Mountain, Black Moon, and Nightwalker Packs. The news of the protection spell spread across territories, and though we don’t plan to launch an atta

  • The Witch Luna   Chapter 98 - Lilith

[Agatha’s POV]I cannot see anything. There’s darkness, silence, and a dreadful feeling that churns my insides. I could feel the goosebumps creeping on my skin, and a sense of discomfort crawled down my spine. Where am I? Why can’t I see anything? Why am I alone? Where’s Mom? Where’s Nate and Bastien? Where are my kids? Aren’t they supposed to be with me? I move my feet forward to search for a light, for a familiar place… The squishing sound was all I could hear with every step. The touch of soft mud swallows my feet up until my ankles. I don’t like where I am right now. I tried to squint my eyes as I scanned my surroundings. But there is nothing but pitch black. I opened my mouth and started calling everyone I knew, one by one. “Mom!”“Nate!”“Bastien!”“Nas!”“Sean!”“Amara!”“Mommy Lily!”“Mommy Gloria!”“Dad!”“Aunt….”“Tsk. tsk. Tsk. You forgot one name, my child,” a female electric voice echoed in the empty space I am in, cutting me off. And I’d be damned if I said I didn’t re

  • The Witch Luna   Chapter 97 - Grand Assembly

[Agatha’s POV]The day has finally come. I was nervous. My hands were sweaty, my stomach was churning, and the tightness in my chest kept coming back repeatedly. I looked around at the open field where all species started filling up from the morning. The colonies my mates built for other species were barely occupied, but we expect a few hundred to arrive anytime within the day. Orpheus volunteered to convince some of his kind, and they might come after sunset, too. Nate built another building without windows, with only two doors on the ground floor and another to the rooftop, designed for the vampire clan. One of the new business deals Bastien signed up for was the River Bed Blood Bank. We compensate humans who donate their blood and distribute blood bags to human hospitals in neighboring packs at a fixed discounted rate. In return, we get to buy the blood near the end of its shelf life at half the price. Some hospitals in other packs are even willing to give them for free just to g

  • The Witch Luna   We're Almost There

Hey guys, We are a few chapters away from completion. And as much as I wanted to make the story longer by adding additional twists and turns, it's already longer than planned. It was initially a 75-ish chapter, but I later realized that some details would be abruptly cut, hence the extension. Anyway, I am beyond grateful to all of you for reading and staying with Agatha until this point. This is my first shot at storytelling, and I need you to be brutal on me in the comment section if you think there are "should-haves" that I overlooked. And I do hope for your support for the coming stories.Warm hugs for all of you,ConQuest

  • The Witch Luna   Chapter 96 - Training and Travels

[Third POV]It’s been five years. Nas and Sean started warrior training at the indoor gym their dad had set up inside the Packhouse, while Amara started using the U9 to practice her magic when she was two years old. The triplets were inseparable. Amara joined the boys at the gym for the combat training, and the boys would practice magic with their sister. On most days, no one gets injured, but sometimes, the boys are unlucky.“What is your schedule this week, baby?” Bastien asked Agatha as he stepped out of the walk-in closet. He wore a custom-made suit that matched Nate’s. Their tailor customized their wardrobe in twinning, just as much as Nas and Sean’s. In the same way, Agatha and Amara often wear identical white sundresses with tiny floral designs, except when Agatha is traveling to the coven or to distant places to meet community leaders of other species. Then, she would wear a simple dress beneath her cloak.“I am staying in for the week. I think I need some rest. Mom also notic

  • The Witch Luna   Chapter 95 - Naming Ceremony

[Agatha POV]It has been a week since I have given birth to our triplets. I walk slowly and easily now with slight discomfort in my stitches. I felt like a kid being supervised by townspeople; I was not allowed to lift anything, not even the babies. I breastfed while sitting or lying down, and there was always someone tailing me once I got on my feet. The alpha floor of the packhouse is full. Bastien’s parents have stayed with us, and we decided that all the grandparents must stay with us on the Alpha floor for fairness' sake. Mommy Lily said they will stay until the naming ceremony is over. I had never heard of the naming ceremony before. Still, since she is the only she-wolf and a former Luna who knew all the formalities and ceremonies in the werewolf community, I trust her judgment on everything pack-related. Not that it’s not important to me because it does, but I wanted my children to experience the best of both worlds. Mom also said that they would give protective gifts to our ch

  • The Witch Luna   Chapter 94 - We Are Parents

[Sebastian’s POV]The C-section procedure took a couple of hours to complete. We reached the hospital just a few minutes after Mommy Glinda, and Agatha arrived. Just in time to sign the consent paper for the operation, they said it would be impossible for Agatha to give natural birth to three children, as it may endanger her life. Two female doctors supervised the operation since Nate didn’t want a male doctor to see our mate naked, so Dr. Tim was out. Although impractical, I understand his possessiveness. Dr. Tim is the Pack doctor; he is the most qualified, and I would turn a blind eye to a male doctor who would operate on our mate if it guaranteed her safety. Thank goddess, Sienna is a specialist in pregnancy and childbirth, and Estella is as equally qualified.Three neonatal cart trolleys lin

  • The Witch Luna   Chapter 93 - Meeting Old Friends

[Agatha POV]“Mom, are you sure this would work?” I asked my mother as I stumped my feet like a small child. I had no doubts about my abilities, but it had been many years since I last summoned the other supernatural species. I don’t even remember it. Most of the stories I knew about summoning fairies, mermaids, elves, and gnomes were other people’s memories; they just told me about it and considered it as my version of the story as well. I was very young to remember, and that’s what has been bothering me right now.“Yes, it will. Where are all these doubts coming from, Agatha?” Mom chastised me. I get it. We have gone a long way to be wary now. Summoning the other species is the first major step in fu

  • The Witch Luna   Chapter 92 - New Pack for River Bed Pack

[Third POV]“Mom, Dad, you have to promise that you will come to River Bed Pack to see our three musketeers,” Agatha pouted like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum over candy. “Oh, sweetheart, we won't miss it for the world,” Lily hugged her tightly, and Herod patted her shoulder before planting a kiss on the crown of her head.Seb approached them to free her mate from her parent’s hold. “Mom, Dad, you are suffocating her! And Mom, how come you don’t call me sweetheart anymore? What will become of me after my children are born,” he said with feigned disappointment. Herod immediately smacked his shoulder blade, “Enough of theatrics, Seb. Where’s your brother? Isn’t he sending you off?” Herod questioned him.
