Chapter 3

Penulis: Judy Summers
After I finally calmed down, I snuck into Bella's room.

Under her bed, I found a wolf fang smeared with evening primrose oil.

I carefully scraped off a small sample from the fang and took it back to the lab for testing. Sure enough, Bella's DNA showed up on it.

That meant the wolf bite mark on her body was fake.

Furious, I went straight to confront Bella. I demanded to know why she framed me and stole the man I loved.

After hearing the noise, Cade rushed over.

He pulled the trembling Bella behind him and shoved a dagger into my hand.

"I fell in love with Bella first. Don't blame her," he said. "If you think I betrayed you, I'll accept any punishment. Break my bones or stab my heart. Do whatever you want."

Thinking back on it now only made the cold sink deeper into my bones.

I wrapped my arms tightly around myself.

I suddenly missed my father's steady, comforting embrace and my mother's gentle, sweet goodnight kisses.

But they were gone, too.

They had left me a month ago.

That same day, Cade wiped out the traitors and reclaimed the wolf throne. And that same day, my parents' private jet crashed while crossing the Parencia Ocean.

Both of them died.

I touched the pendant resting against my chest.

It was a coming-of-age gift from my father.

"If one day your mother and I are gone, break this pendant. Someone will take our place and protect you," he had said.

I hadn't taken it seriously back then. I had wrapped my arms around his neck and acted spoiled.

"I don't want anyone else! I want to stay with you forever and be your little burden."

Another firework shot into the sky. The loud blast dragged me back into reality.

That was when I suddenly realized there were two other male werewolves in the room. I jumped to my feet, my back pressed tightly against the wall.

One of them spoke first. "Well, damn. You don't see a pretty thing like this every day."

The other stepped closer. He grabbed my chin with dirty, rough fingers.

"Yeah. This is some rare top-shelf quality. Who did you piss off to end up like this, darling?"

I slapped his hand away. "What do you think you're doing?"

"What are we doing?" They laughed darkly. "We're just following orders and teaching you some manners."

One of them grabbed my wrist. His hand slid up my forearm. The disgusting sensation made my skin crawl.

"Don't touch me! Do you even know who I am? I saved the Wolf King’s life. I'm the Queen's sister!"

The two men burst out laughing.

"You really think you can scare us with the Wolf King and Queen? I'll let you in on a secret. Those two sent us!"

They started tearing at my clothes.

No matter how I cursed or begged, they didn't stop.

Just as despair swallowed me whole, the door was kicked open.

Cade stood there, his face dark with fury.

With his bare hands, he tore one of the werewolf's arms clean off. Blood sprayed everywhere as the man screamed and collapsed.

The other froze, then dropped to his knees. "Your Majesty! Please, let us go!"

Cade pressed his sword to the man's throat.

"Who gave you the nerve?"

The man shook violently. "It was, it was the Queen…"

Before he could finish, Cade slit his throat with a single stroke.

-

In the bedroom, the wolf physician confirmed my pregnancy.

Cade dismissed everyone else and, for once, showed guilt.

"Selena, I only meant for them to scare you. I never thought they'd dare to do this."

Of course, I knew. Bella had altered his order.

Exhausted in body and mind, I closed my eyes.

But he didn't leave.

"Why won't you just tell me? Who is that man?"

"What do you plan to do to the child's father?" I asked quietly.

Cade sneered. "You can barely protect yourself, and you're still worried about your lover?"

I instinctively guarded my stomach. "I want your promise that we'll be safe."

Cade stared at me in silence for a few seconds.

Then, he let out a resigned sigh.

"Fine. I promise. Now will you tell me?"

The words were already on my lips when Bella's maid suddenly rushed in.

"Something terrible's happened, Your Majesty! The Queen wanted to personally make Ms. Selena some calming chamomile tea, but she spilled the hot water and burned her entire arm. It's covered in blisters."

Cade's expression changed instantly.

He didn't wait for my answer. He turned and ran out the door.

Julian never rushed me into accepting him.He filled the hollow in my heart little by little, quietly and patiently. He knew I suffered from night terrors. After losing the baby, I often woke up crying in the middle of the night. Every time I woke, I would find Julian sitting not far away, holding a book and keeping watch. He never crossed a single line.He would only read to me in a low, steady voice until I fell asleep again. He taught me how to shoot and how to fight."Selena, in a world where the strong prey on the weak, I don't want you relying on anyone. Not even me. I want you strong, strong enough that no werewolf ever dares look down on you again."He built a world-class medical research lab for me on the estate. He supported me in returning to my old work.Eventually, after winning award after award on my own merit, I earned the respect of his entire family. At my birthday celebration a year later, Julian held my hand as we stood before the floor-to-ceiling window

Cade didn't leave. The once untouchable Wolf King now looked like a discarded drifter, rooted outside the estate gates.Whether it was pouring rain or blazing sunshine, whenever I pulled back my bedroom curtains, I could always see that statue-like figure standing straight outside the wrought iron gate.He was no longer wearing that ridiculous groundskeeper outfit. Instead, he had changed back into a black shirt soaked through by rain.It was the first gift I had ever given him three years ago.The cuffs were already worn thin, yet he wore them like a treasure.Julian suggested more than once that he should release the dogs or have the guards dump Cade a few miles away in the hills. However, I stopped him every time.I sipped my tea and turned a page in my book. "An extra statue at the gate doesn't look half bad, does it?"And so, the standoff lasted an entire month. One rainy evening, Julian and I were heading downtown to a concert at the opera house. The black Rolls-Royce

The afternoon sunlight was perfect. It spread a warm and gentle gleam across every inch of the estate's lawn.If this were back when I lived among the wolves, I would probably be brewing medicine for Cade tirelessly in such nice weather. But now, I was wearing a light white dress, barefoot, sitting on the garden swing.A soft breeze brushed past. It carried the fresh scent of earth and grass."Higher. Push me higher!"Julian gave the swing a slightly stronger push, sending me soaring toward the blue sky. The weightless feeling made me laugh out loud, straight from the heart.Even I found that laughter unfamiliar. So this was what it felt like to be alive. It was actually…joyful."Alright, my little princess. Any higher, and you'll fly right off the planet," Julian said with a laugh as he brought the swing to a gentle stop.He walked around to stand in front of me.As if performing a magic trick, he pulled out a bouquet of freshly picked wild daisies, still dotted with morni

At the same time, in the wolf palace…Cade was reviewing documents when he suddenly clutched his chest and collapsed from the throne. He had never felt pain like this before. It wasn't just physical; it felt like his entire soul was being torn apart."No…"The moment he opened his mouth, blood sprayed out, and cold sweat soaked through his clothes. He felt it clearly. The mental bond connecting him to his mate had snapped. The senses that had been clouded for so long were suddenly ripped open by overwhelming grief.Selena's final emotions flooded into his mind: despair, finality, and an all-consuming hatred over losing her child.Cade even sensed the fading bloodline aura of that lost little life. That aura…was exactly the same as his own."Ugh!" Cade's rage surged to his chest, and he spat out another mouthful of blood. The clash of emotions nearly split him in two. One half was wild joy, and the other half was uncontrollable fury.He finally understood why hearing that

Julian took me back to his estate. The place was grand, fully equipped with everything imaginable.More importantly, it had airtight security and cutting-edge anti-werewolf defenses. Werewolves couldn't get anywhere near it.Julian brought in the best medical team money could buy to treat me. He also hired experienced caregivers and health specialists. They designed a full recovery plan tailored just for me.I smiled and said to him, "I'm a doctor myself. Do you really think I need someone else to heal me?"Julian was firm. "Ms. Feron, I know your skills are exceptional. But no matter how good you are, you can only heal the wounds on your body."He tapped his chest lightly."And I want to heal the wounds here."I shrugged helplessly. Since he was my father's longtime friend, I didn't argue."Fine, fine. We'll do it your way."Three months passed in the blink of an eye.I practically had to do a backflip in front of Julian before he finally believed I was fully recovered, bo

  • The Wolf King's Regret   Chapter 6

Three days after Selena left the wolf pack, Cade still couldn't accept that she had been taken right from under his nose. And the one who saved her was Julian, a man with hunter blood, the natural enemy of werewolves.Thirteen days after Selena left, Cade was still trapped in nightmares every night. In his dreams, he was lost in endless darkness. He couldn't find Selena, no matter how hard he searched.Other times, he would dream of Selena lying pale and lifeless in his arms. No matter how desperately he called her name, she wouldn't wake up.Once, he jolted awake from a nightmare and reached out instinctively, wrapping his arms tightly around the woman sleeping beside him.Like clutching the last lifeline, he trembled and whispered, "Selena… Don't leave me…"The body in his arms stiffened instantly. Then Bella's cold voice cut through the darkness."Your Majesty, open your eyes. It's me, Bella."Cade snapped fully awake. He shoved her away, got out of bed, and walked onto t
