King Russell Hawkins once Richard walked through the dungeon, ignoring the prisoners’ cries. His steps carried him to the far end, where a separate, heavily guarded cell held only one man: Ares Steele.

Once his most trusted warrior. Now a traitor in his eyes. The man who had dared help his daughter escape.

Russell stopped before the cell, narrowing his gaze at the battered figure inside. Ares rose from the corner, his face bruised, his clothes stained with blood, yet his stance was unshaken.

“Your Majesty,” Ares greeted in his usual stern voice.

“You disappoint me, Steele,” Russell said coldly.

Ares kept his head high, his eyes steady. “I did what I had to do.”

“You sent my daughter and the woman you claim to love—to die.”

“She won’t die,” Ares said with certainty.

Russell frowned. His certainty unsettled him. He had read the books about breedmates, but even he wasn’t convinced the bond was so unbreakable.

“How can you be so sure?” he asked, voice calm but probing.

Marcus stiffened. He didn’t think she would boldly put her hands on his bare torso. Her touch was cool and soothing in the fever that was burning his body. He was still fighting the infection and even a cold bath didn’t help.Having her very cold hands on his body did something else to him. He wanted her to cool him all over. Touch more of him but he knew that would inflame him in other ways that he did not wish to deal with.It was enough that she was dressed in this way that made his anger vanish so fast that it was embarrassing. He went from being utterly disgusted to being in awe. God. Animals could do better than him.“You are very warm,” she said and he could feel her breath against the nape of his neck. His whole body went rigid. “You might be sick.”“Well, I am of flesh and blood. What did you think would happen after torturing me?” He said steering his horse in the direction he wanted to go.“That is exactly what I thought would happen.” She said. There was something about th

With her fair skin and hair, Aria stood out as Aaron led her toward the stables. Every passing glance followed her, whispers brushing against her as if she were some strange sight. She wondered if Marcus knew or if he’d care that his younger brother was escorting her here. Would he approve, or would it spark another storm?First, it had been their mother showing kindness. Now his brother? Were they all being genuine, or was this some tactic to keep Marcus from breaking under her presence? Either way, it made her uneasy. The stables smelled of hay and warm earth. Horses of all colors filled the stalls some dozing, others nudging at buckets as a stable boy tended them. Back home, every family owned a horse, and she had once cherished her own until it was taken from her. Since then, she hadn’t allowed herself to bond with another.Aaron stopped at the stall of a chestnut mare and stroked her neck. “This is my horse. Her name is Honey.” A small smile softened his features.Aria studied th

“If you touch my sister”“You’ll kill me,” he cut her off.Aria gritted her teeth. If only she had been fast enough to stab him. She twisted her wrists, struggling against his grip, and tried to kick him, but the heavy garment restricted her movements.“You will hurt if you hurt my sister,” she said firmly. “Because that’s what hurts me the most.”His dark gaze held hers. “Good to know. Physical pain clearly doesn’t bother you. So hurting your sister will hurt you and if it hurts me too, I can live with that. Can you?”Her chest tightened. “No.”“Then don’t do anything foolish.”“Don’t worry. I make my plans carefully.”He arched his brow. “Trying to stab me isn’t careful.”“Then I’ll stab you more carefully next time.”That made him laugh. A real laugh, teeth flashing white, as if he was truly entertained by her boldness.Aria tried to use his distraction to shove him away, but he was too strong. “You’re funny,” he said, pulling her to her feet. She nearly stumbled into his chest but

Araminta led Aria to her room and offered her a set of new clothes, traditional garments unlike anything Aria had ever worn before. There were no dresses here.First, Araminta handed her a plain white skirt that reached mid-calf, simple and light, to be worn as an undergarment. Over it, she wrapped a long brown cloth around her waist, folding and tucking it neatly so it fell like a skirt. For the top, she gave her a fitted beige blouse with straps tied at the back. Aria had seen other women wear different versions, some with long sleeves, some with short, some with none at all but this one left her feeling strangely exposed. Still, she said nothing. If she was going to survive here, their clothes would be the least of her concerns.“I know it isn’t what you’re used to back home,” Araminta said kindly. “But hopefully, you’ll grow comfortable in it.”Aria gave her a small smile. “I’m sure I will. Thank you.”“Let me do your hair,” Araminta offered, motioning for her to sit at the dresse

Araminta wept quietly in her room. She wasn’t the kind of woman who sat idly and cried, so she busied her hands by folding clothes as her tears fell. The guilt pressed heavily on her chest. Her children were suffering, and it was because of her. If only she had stood up to Khaos sooner—before he twisted their minds and scarred so many lives. If only she had fought harder to open their eyes to what they had been forced to believe.Khaos’s power over them had always been strong, and she knew how difficult it was to resist him. That was why she had been so proud when Marcus finally did. But instead of feeling relief, she should have been more cautious. The cost of defiance had been too high. One of her children was already dead, another carried the unbearable grief of losing a mate and a child—and now she feared she was losing a third. The thought shattered her. She had seen Marcus struggle both under his father’s rule and after. She had seen guilt eat away at him until he looked hollow.

  • The Wolf King's Vow   Chapter 49: Blood Experiment

Pythagoras had heard of Richard’s inventions and invited him to see their work. That was when Richard first met Professor Fox—a man who shared his fascination, though with a far more ambitious vision. Fox didn’t just want to build better weapons. He wanted to build better men.An army of humans who were faster, stronger, and able to survive wounds that would normally kill them. To achieve this, Fox studied werewolf blood and its remarkable ability to heal. What made it so different? Could human blood be altered to carry the same traits? His early experiments failed. The hunters he tested on died soon after. Desperate, Fox turned to Richard for help.Richard agreed. But he quickly discovered there was no way to simply copy werewolf blood. Certain elements it carried didn’t exist in human blood at all.Still, he refused to give up. After countless studies and failures, Richard finally tested an idea he believed might work: transplanting werewolf stem cells taken from bone marrow into hu
