My phone buzzed at 2:30 AM.

I was still awake. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Julian's photograph and heard her warning about Greyson's pack. I kept wondering if Olivia had found proof, if we had waited too long, or if Greyson already knew where Emma was.

When Olivia's name flashed on the screen, I answered before the first ring finished.

"Lucas." Her voice was tight, urgent. "They're coming. Greyson's pack. Tonight."

I sat up. "Where?"

"I don't know how they got the location, but—"

"Olivia

I hadn't let go of his hand since he collapsed. The medical room was dim, lit only by a single lamp in the corner. Lucas lay on the cot, his chest rising and falling in shallow breaths. Bandages wrapped his arms, his torso, his shoulder—wounds I hadn't seen him take, wounds he'd ignored while he was fighting. There was dried blood along his temple. Another cut ran across his cheek.I kept looking at his face, waiting for some sign that he was going to wake up.He hadn't woken up.Olivia had told me it would take time. That the curse had receded, but it had damaged him. That he needed rest.I didn't care about rest. I cared about the fact that he hadn't opened his eyes.Every few minutes, I leaned closer, checking his breathing.Every time his chest rose, I felt a little relief. Then I remembered what he'd looked like outside. The black eyes. The smoke around him.The way his entire body had seemed to change. And the way I'd stepped back from him.I closed my eyes.I hated that moment.

They're already—"The line crackled. I heard movement, followed by a distant shout."Olivia?""Lucas, listen to me. Get Emma somewhere safe. They're—"The line went dead.I stared at the phone for half a second, hoping she'd call back. Then I threw the blanket aside.I was already moving.I grabbed my jacket, my keys, and was out the door before I could think. The night air was cold, sharp against my face. I drove to Emma's house on autopilot, taking corners

I was at home, trying to focus on homework, when my phone buzzed.I picked it up.Julian.My stomach tightened before I even opened the message."I found something you should see. Meet me at the café?"My thumb hovered over the screen. I shouldn't. I knew I shouldn't. But the curiosity was already burning.I hated that.I hated that she had managed to get inside my head."What is it?"The reply came almost immediately."Don't trust Lucas to tell you. I will. I promise."I stared at the message for a long moment. That was exactly the kind of sentence that should have made me delete the conversation.Instead, I grabbed my jacket.I told myself I was going because I wanted answers. Not because I trusted Julian. Not because I was choosing her over Lucas.I just wanted to know what she had found. At least, that was what I told myself. The café was quiet when I arrived.Only a few customers sat scattered around the room. A soft song played through the speakers, and the smell of coffee fille

  • The Wolf Prince's Fated Mate    Chapter 38: The Crack (Lucas' POV)

Olivia arrived at my house in record time. The pack reports were still spread across the table, untouched since yesterday. I hadn't done anything except replay the conversation with Emma in the gym, Julian's hand on her wrist, the way she'd defended her.I stopped pacing. "You know."Olivia glanced at the papers on the table before looking at me. "I suspected. Now I'm sure.""How long have you known?""Long enough to recognize what she's doing."I let out a humorless laugh. "And you waited until now to tell me?""I needed to be certain." She closed the door behind her. "Julian's technique suppresses powers. If Emma keeps practicing it, she won't be able to defend herself when Greyson's pack comes."The words made my stomach tighten. I had seen Emma's hands shake after training. I had seen the lights flicker around her when she got angry, and I knew she was frightened by what she couldn't control. Julian had offered her something that sounded simple: a way to make the power stop. But i

  • The Wolf Prince's Fated Mate    Chapter 37: What Olivia Knows (Olivia's POV)

I'd been sitting in my car for ten minutes. The gym doors were visible from where I'd parked—close enough to see who went in, far enough to go unnoticed. I'd watched Julian enter twenty minutes ago. Watched Lucas follow ten minutes later. Watched the lights stay on behind the frosted glass.I was waiting.I had told myself I was only checking on Emma. Her powers had been acting up, and the last thing she needed was someone making the situation worse. But when I saw Julian enter the gym, I knew I couldn't leave without finding out what she was doing.Julian never did anything without a reason. The problem was that she was good at making her reasons sound reasonable. She could turn concern into a weapon and make people feel guilty for questioning her. Lucas had learned that the hard way.I checked the time again. When Julian exited alone, I waited a beat. Then I got out of the car."Julian."She stopped. Turned. Her platinum hair caught the fading light, and her smile was already in pla

  • The Wolf Prince's Fated Mate    Chapter 36: The Practice (Emma's POV)

Julian found me in the gym after school.I was sitting on the bleachers, staring at the empty basketball court, trying to sort through everything Lucas had told me. The confession. The history. I didn't hear Julian come in. She just appeared beside me, like she'd been there all along."I heard you and Lucas are talking again."I looked up. "You heard?""People talk. Especially when a werewolf and his mate stop fighting in the hallway." She sat down on the bleacher below mine, looking up at me."We weren't fighting.""Good. Fighting is exhausting." She smiled. "I should know."I didn't respond. Just looked back at the empty court.I should have gone home. Rachel had probably already finished her homework and would be waiting for me to tell her how things were going with Lucas. But after everything we'd talked about, I needed time to think.Lucas had finally told me the truth about Mara. It hadn't erased the hurt, but it had helped me understand why he'd kept so much of himself locked

I rushed down the sidewalk toward school, my backpack slapping against my side with every step. Tears stung my eyes from the fight with Marcus, but I blinked them away. His words echoed in my head—selfish, burden, helpless. The house felt like a cage, and school was my only escape today. I just wa

I sat at the kitchen table, my fingers nervously picking at the edges of a half-eaten sandwich. The bread was dry, the meal thrown together in a hurry before school. My mind raced back to last night. Dad's breakdown, the eviction notice looming like a dark cloud. The house already felt stifling. I

"Emma, honey. We need to talk.” Dad said as the door to the kitchen swung open. He walked in, his face drawn tight with worry. He looked older than his age, lines deep around his eyes. He rubbed his hands together, like he always did when bad news brewed. My stomach dropped.I was sitting on the c

  • The Wolf Prince's Fated Mate    Chapter 5: The Moonlit Transformation (Emma's POV)

I stood at the edge of the park the next night, my heart pounding like a drum in my chest. The full moon hung low in the sky, casting a silver glow over everything. Lucas's words from yesterday echoed in my head—I’m not joking, Emma. You’ll see the truth soon enough. Part of me wanted to run home
