I stood at the edge of the park the next night, my heart pounding like a drum in my chest. The full moon hung low in the sky, casting a silver glow over everything.

Lucas's words from yesterday echoed in my head—I’m not joking, Emma. You’ll see the truth soon enough. Part of me wanted to run home and forget it all, but the pull inside me, that weird tug toward him, kept my feet planted.

He appeared from the shadows, his tall frame cutting through the dim light. His gray eyes locked on mine, intense as always. "You came," he said, his voice low and rough.

I crossed my arms, trying to hide how nervous I felt. "Yeah. But don't think I'm buying your crazy story yet. Werewolves? Bonds? It's ridiculous."

He smirked, just a little, but it didn't reach his eyes. "We'll see." He nodded toward the trees beyond the park. "Come on. The forest is better for this."

I hesitated, biting my lip. Curiosity burned in me, mixed with fear. But I followed him anyway, our footsteps crunching on the leaves as we left the park behind.

The air grew cooler, thicker with the scent of pine and earth. "Why the forest?" I asked, keeping my voice steady.

"It's secluded," he replied. "Safer. No one around to see."

"See what? You turning into a wolf?" I scoffed, but my stomach twisted. Part of me wondered if he was serious.

He glanced at me, his expression softening for a second. "Emma, I know it's hard to believe. But you've felt it too—the connection. Like something pulling us together."

I looked away, my cheeks heating up. Yeah, I had felt it. Every time he was near, my skin tingled, and my thoughts got all jumbled. But admitting that felt too scary. "Maybe it's just attraction. Normal stuff."

He stopped walking and turned to face me. We were deeper in the forest now, the trees closing in like walls. The moon peeked through the branches, bright and full. "It's more than that. You're special, Emma. Like me."

I rolled my eyes, but my heart raced. "Special how? Because of some fated mate thing? Come on, Lucas. That's fairy tale crap."

He stepped closer, his breath warm on my face. "Not crap. Real. And tonight, you'll see."

I swallowed hard, torn between wanting to bolt and needing to know. "Fine. Show me."

He nodded, his jaw tight. "Stay here. Don't move, no matter what."

I watched as he backed away a few steps, into a small clearing where the moonlight poured down like a spotlight. My pulse thundered in my ears. He grabbed the hem of his shirt and pulled it over his head, revealing his lean, muscled chest.

I couldn't look away, even though I knew I should. His skin glowed under the moon, every line of him strong and perfect.

He caught me staring, and that arrogant smirk crossed his lips again. "Like what you see?"

Heat flooded my face. I glared at him. "Shut up. You're the one stripping."

He chuckled, low and teasing. "Just wait."

He kicked off his shoes next, then unbuttoned his jeans. I turned half away, but my eyes kept drifting back. He was confident, almost cocky about it, like he knew the effect he had on me.

My breath caught as he slid his pants down alongside his boxers, stepping out of them completely naked. The moonlight highlighted every inch of him—broad shoulders, defined abs, powerful legs.

I felt a rush of heat, not just embarrassment, but something deeper, pulling me toward him.

"Emma," he said, his voice serious now. "This might look scary, but don't run."

Before I could respond, he doubled over, a groan escaping his lips. His body jerked, muscles rippling under his skin like something alive was trying to break free.

I froze, terror gripping me. "Lucas?"

He dropped to his knees, his hands digging into the dirt. Bones cracked—loud, sickening snaps that echoed through the trees. Fur sprouted along his back, dark and thick.

His face elongated, teeth sharpening into fangs. He growled, the sound raw and painful, his gray eyes flashing with agony.

I stepped back, my hand over my mouth. This couldn't be real. But it was happening right in front of me. His limbs twisted, paws forming where hands had been.

The transformation was violent, every shift looking like it tore him apart. Sweat—or maybe blood—glistened on his fur as it covered him completely.

Finally, he stood on all fours, a massive wolf with sleek black fur and those same piercing gray eyes. He panted, steam rising from his muzzle in the cool night air.

I couldn't breathe. Terror mixed with awe, rooting me to the spot. This was Lucas. A werewolf. And if he was telling the truth about that... what about me? The bond?

The wolf—Lucas—stared at me, his eyes familiar, almost pleading. I felt it then, stronger than ever—that pull, like an invisible thread tying us together.

Not just supernatural, but emotional. Deep. It scared me, but it also drew me in, making my chest ache with something I couldn't name.

Slowly, I took a step forward. Then another. My hand shook as I reached out. "Lucas?" I whispered.

He didn't move, just watched me. My fingers brushed his fur, soft and warm. A spark shot through me, like electricity, but comforting.

I stroked his side, feeling the rise and fall of his breath. Tears pricked my eyes. This was real. He was real. And the connection... it felt right, even if it terrified me.

"You're... beautiful," I murmured, my voice breaking. Fascination overrode the fear. I leaned closer, my hand lingering on his neck.

But suddenly, the wolf stepped back, shaking his head. Fur receded, bones cracked again in reverse. The shift happened faster this time, his body contorting back to human form.

He collapsed to his knees, naked and breathing heavily, sweat dripping down his chest. I stared, my heart slamming against my ribs.

"Now you know the truth," he gasped, looking up at me with those intense eyes that glowed now. "You’re part of this world whether you like it or not.”

I sat at the kitchen table, my fingers nervously picking at the edges of a half-eaten sandwich. The bread was dry, the meal thrown together in a hurry before school. My mind raced back to last night. Dad's breakdown, the eviction notice looming like a dark cloud. The house already felt stifling. I glanced at the clock. I was supposed to be ready for the day, get my stuff together for school, but how could I focus? How could I go about anything like everything wasn’t falling apart?I needed to leave soon, but my legs felt heavy, stuck in place by the fear twisting in my gut.The front door banged open. Marcus stormed in, his boots thudding against the floor. His eyes locked on me, blazing with anger. "Emma! What the hell? "Emma, honey. We need to talk.” Dad said as the door to the kitchen swung open. He walked in, his face drawn tight with worry. He looked older than his age, lines deep around his eyes. He rubbed his hands together, like he always did when bad news brewed. My stomach dropped.I was sitting on the creaky couch in our small living room, flipping through an old photo album as dust floated in the air, and the pages stuck a bit from years of neglect. My shift at the café ended late last night, and exhaustion pulled at me. But I couldn't stop looking. These photos were my escape, a reminder that life wasn't always this hard. But with Dad’s news, I didn't know anymore.I closed the album quick, setting it aside. "What's wrong, Dad? Is it the bills again?"He sighed and sat beside me. The couch groaned under his weight. Mom followed from the kitchen, her eyes downcast. She didn't say a word, just stood there twisting a dish towel in her hands.Dad cleared his throat. "Things are worse than I
