I watched Mary's face on the screen as she recognized her opponent. Watched horror and grief and rage war across her expression.

"No," she whispered. "No, that can't be her. My mother is dead."

"Your mother is dead," Shade confirmed cruelly. "This is just the weapon we made from her body. She doesn't remember you. Doesn't remember anything except the commands we give her. And right now, her command is to kill you."

The corrupted Evelyn attacked without hesitation. Mary barely dodged, rolling away from massive claws that could have disemboweled her.

"We need to breach now," I said urgently.

"The collars," Lucas reminded me. "Two are still active."

My phone buzzed. Natalie: "Last collar done. All prisoners clear. Go now!"
