Elmy rolled onto her side beside him. “Zayne,” she called softly, her slender fingers brushing gently across his face, leaving warmth in their wake. “If we really start over… what about Sunny?”

Zayne groaned in annoyance. His wife truly had a talent for turning a warm moment cold in seconds. Propping his head up with one hand, he looked at her while his other hand rested on her flat stomach, slipping beneath her sweater to feel her warm, soft skin.

“Can’t you forget about that for just a moment

Elmy’s entire body turned cold. That long, continuous sound still echoed in her ears. She stood there, frozen, unable to say a word as the paramedics tried to bring Zayne’s heartbeat back. Her hand clenched against her chest, as if that alone could ease the tightness crushing inside it.Her eyes were locked on Zayne’s pale face. Every sign of life seemed to have disappeared from him. Heat burned behind her eyes. Over and over, her heart whispered no. Please… wake up.The paramedics inside the ambulance did everything they could. Elmy covered her face, unable to watch what was happening in front of her. What if they couldn’t save him? What if today… was the last day she would ever see him? What if—A tear slipped into her palm. The pain in her chest spread further with every panicked voice she heard. She bit her lip, holding back her sobs. In those suffocating seconds, Elmy could only hold her breath. Then the monitor changed. The paramedics let out relieved breaths. They smiled.“We g

“What?” Elmy looked up at Ray, who was whistling cheerfully in front of her. “Are you—are you insane?!”“Fine. Beat that loser again,” Ray ordered.Elmy quickly raised her hand to stop them. Her eyes shifted to Zayne, who was shaking his head firmly. Blood kept dripping from his mouth.Zayne’s voice came out weak, “Don’t.”Elmy bit her lip. What should she do now? Her dignity was completely on the line. Strip in front of all these men? Even in front of Zayne… how could she? She clenched her dress tightly until her knuckles turned white.“Don’t, El.”“Hurry up. I already did what you asked earlier,” Ray said impatiently. He pulled a wooden chair behind him and sat down, his zipper open. His hand moved shamelessly over himself.God, Elmy wanted to lunge at him and choke him right there. But seeing his men surrounding them, that was a terrible choice. With a storm of emotions and humiliation, Elmy stood up and slow

Elmy struggled to loosen the restraints binding her, ignoring the stinging pain burning against her skin. The chair she was tied to shook violently until she lost balance and fell face-first onto the floor. Her cheek scraped against the rough, dusty concrete, sending a sharp sting through her face. Before she could look around for anything that might help her get free, the door opened.Elmy squinted as Ray walked in, that bright, unsettling smile on his face.“Oh, trying to escape?” he said, setting her chair upright again. He crouched slightly, leveling his gaze with hers. “Guess who I brought with me?” he added cheerfully.“Let me—”“Bring him in,” Ray ordered.A familiar voice reached her ears, and Elmy quickly shifted her gaze from Ray’s irritating face to the man being dragged into the room. Her eyes widened.“Zayne!”“El…” Zayne glared at Ray. “Let my wife go! This is between you and me, not her!”

Sam had gone insane. Probably.Losing the trial had completely messed with his head. The night before, just as Zayne was about to sleep, Gion’s IT team had finished compiling a list of employees who had been working with Sam all this time—complete with solid evidence to take him down. There was no way Zayne could sleep after seeing that. Even the usual distractions at his desk couldn’t pull his focus away. Right as he was going through the files, a message from Sam came in.“You can win, Zayne. But unfortunately, I’m already one step ahead of you.”Zayne didn’t bother replying. Instead, he prepared himself for the worst. That morning, without waking his wife, he asked Gion to pick him up. They went straight to Sam’s house—but the man was gone. The place was empty, as if he had planned everything and run off with the stolen money.Even better, all the employees who had been working with him had disappeared too.“No matter

“Where’s Zayne?” Elmy asked Lyra, who was pouring coffee into a cup. It wasn’t like Zayne to skip breakfast. Last night, she hadn’t even had the chance to sleep beside him—he’d gone back to his study, and this morning, she couldn’t find him anywhere.Lyra set the teapot down on its tray. “I saw Mr. Zayne leave earlier with his secretary. They seemed to be in a hurry. I don’t know where they went.”Hearing that, Elmy took a sip of her coffee and reached for a piece of toast on the table. “Was he wearing a suit?”“No. Just a sweater with a coat over it. His secretary wasn’t dressed for the office either.” Lyra paused for a moment, and Elmy watched her. “They looked panicked.”Elmy let out a long sigh. What was going on? Why hadn’t Zayne told her anything? Was it a problem at work? She could only guess. After breakfast, she busied herself sketching clothing designs in her room. Gianna and Lyra left for the supermarket to do the monthly shopp

“So you want me to come along to the Tamaguchi family party?” Zayne asked as they had dinner together. He let out a quiet sigh, his gaze sweeping over Elmy, who was waiting for his answer across the table. “You do know the Tamaguchi company is a competitor of mine, right?” Elmy fell silent. Zayne felt a bit bad for saying that, so he quickly added, “But I guess going to the party wouldn’t be a problem.” “Honestly, I don’t want to go,” Elmy admitted softly. She played with her fork, then looked back at him. “But my mom is forcing me. I’m afraid she’s planning something, that’s why I want you to come.” “What kind of ‘something’?” Zayne asked, resting one hand on the table. “Hiro—Mr. Tama’s son… he’s around my age. My mom really likes him. Before grandma arranged our marriage, I actually met him once.” Elmy’s voice grew quieter toward the end. She lowered her head, clearly uncomfortable admitting it. But Zayne didn’t seem bothered at al
