Chapter 1

After a long overnight flight, Jasmine Spencer stood pale and exhausted, staring at the mess of clothes scattered across the floor.

The strong, musky smell in the room made her stomach churn.

William Graham was shirtless and lounging against the headboard. Meanwhile, the woman in his arms was wearing Jasmine's silk nightgown.

His hand roamed over the woman's body, and the smirk at the corner of his lips deepened when he saw Jasmine. He raised an eyebrow, grinning like a jerk as he looked straight at her, who had just caught him in the act.

"Well? Looks better on her than it ever did on you, right?"

William chuckled. "If I'm not mistaken, this makes the ninety-ninth time. After all this, you still won't agree to the divorce?"

Jasmine rubbed her stomach slowly, her movements dull and mechanical.

For the first time, she didn't lash out at William for being so cruel.

"Get dressed. We need to talk."

William snorted at her retreating back.

"Talk? What's there to talk about between us?"

Jasmine paused, but didn't turn around.

"About the divorce."

William's mouth opened in surprise.

The woman in his arms smiled brightly. "Finally! Mr. Graham, you're finally getting what you wanted!"

Jasmine waited in the study. Barely five minutes had passed when William walked in, fully dressed.

It was clear—he couldn't wait to end things.

"You're not pulling my leg, right?"

Jasmine saw the contempt in his eyes, plain as day. She didn't answer. Instead, she slid the divorce papers across the desk toward him.

"Take a look. If everything looks fine, you can sign it."

William picked up the divorce papers, his eyes filled with doubt. He didn't believe for a second that Jasmine would actually go through with it.

The Spencer family wasn't what it used to be, so he figured Jasmine would cling to him until the end, draining him of every last drop—whether of money, energy, or dignity.

But when he finished reading the agreement, he froze.

Not only was Jasmine not asking for anything, she was even giving up the house they lived in.

He frowned. "You're serious? You're not planning to show up at the Graham Mansion and cause a scene later, are you?"

Jasmine stayed calm the entire time.

"I'm serious. I won't cause any trouble. Don't worry."

After hearing that, William didn't hesitate anymore. He quickly signed his name at the bottom.

As his pen left the page, a smile tugged at his lips. The weight in his chest finally lifted.

"Well, now that it's signed, let's go get it done at the courthouse. 30 days mandatory waiting period or not, I don't want to waste another minute with you."

"Right now?"

Jasmine frowned slightly.

"Ha! I knew it—you're backing out already, aren't you?"

A sharp pain twisted in Jasmine's stomach, but when she saw the smug look on William's face…

"Let's go."

She didn't hesitate anymore either. They went straight to the office and filed the paperwork.

When the clerk handed them a form, she was still explaining, "If either of you changes your mind within the next 30 days—"

"No way that's happening," William cut her off, tossing the pen on the desk. The grin on his face grew wider.

Jasmine came out much later, only to see that William's car was still there. He was parked by the curb and honked at her.

The window was half down. William took off his sunglasses, looking relaxed as he threw a sarcastic jab her way.

"Jasmine, come on. We were once married, and that counts for something. No need to panic about your next meal ticket—this gentleman here seems perfectly suitable."

As he spoke, he handed her a business card, clearly hoping to embarrass her.

But to his surprise, Jasmine suddenly reached out and took it.

"Alright. I'll think about it."

Then, she calmly turned and walked away.

Her actions left William stunned.

He had no idea.

30 days.

It wasn't just the countdown for the divorce waiting period.

It was also Jasmine's countdown to death.

  • The Words I Left Behind   Chapter 25

Seeing William's state, Tania felt a twisted sense of satisfaction. If it weren't for the no-photo rule, she would have taken a picture to offer to Jasmine at her grave.Watching her, William licked his cracked lips."The red string?"Tania didn't reply. Instead, she lowered her head and pulled a notebook from her bag.William's eyes never left her hands. She held the notebook up to the glass wall."What's this?" William asked, confused. He was looking for the red string.Tania didn't answer him, just flipped open the notebook and held it out for him to see. When William saw the contents, his eyes widened in shock.Every page, every line, was filled with crooked, messy handwriting.Tania said nothing, but William couldn't stop his lips from trembling. After a long pause, Tania spoke softly."William, the first letter you received wasn't even written by Jasmine. You wouldn't have known how much pain she was in back then, or how much she was suffering. Despite that, she sti

William slowly lifted his gaze."Should've what?"His cold, sharp tone cut through the air.The person who had spoken instantly went quiet, like their voice had been stolen. Their eyes flickered with fear as they shrank back behind the others.Seeing this, William laughed coldly."What's wrong? Don't have the guts to say it now? Regret not bringing that illegitimate child back?"It seemed everyone in the Graham family knew about his father's illegitimate son, except for him. When William had lost his sight in that car accident, it didn't take long for them to start plotting, trying to force him to step down. If Jasmine hadn't taken such good care of him and stayed by his side through it all, he probably would've been torn apart by those people long ago.The thought made a tight knot form in his chest, the pain sharp and overwhelming. As the room fell into a stunned silence, everyone's eyes widened, clearly shocked that William knew.William's expression grew even colder, his

"Jasmine, let me get revenge for you, okay?" William whispered softly. As soon as the words left his mouth, he lifted the bottle of liquor from the table. After tapping it a few times, he slammed it against his own head.Blood instantly poured out, staining his white shirt. He lay on the sofa, clutching Jasmine's memorial photo, when suddenly his phone rang."I'm sorry, Mr. Graham. We've tried every lead, but no one has the red string you're looking for.""Got it," William replied, his eyes closing in pain. The next moment, he ordered Ivan to book a flight. If he couldn't find the red string, he would go get one just like it himself.Hours later, the plane touched down, and William made his way up the mountain. A passerby told him the temple was at the very top, and only those with a sincere heart could meet with the monk.He walked on without a word, pushing through dizziness and the bandage wrapped around his head. Even when he felt faint, he kept going, not stopping for a s

William's phone buzzed with several birthday messages. It was only then that he realized, vaguely, that today was his birthday. He felt like a numb machine that had shut off his brain. His fingers mindlessly swiped through the screen, and somehow, he ended up on the messages from Jasmine.2024.5.27 00:00[William, happy birthday.]2023.5.27 00:00[William, happy birthday.]2022.5.27 00:00[William, happy birthday.]The words on the screen felt like a beast, devouring him.He felt an icy chill spread through his body, as if some invisible predator had sunk its teeth into him, tearing him apart. His entire body shook uncontrollably, overwhelmed by pain he couldn't escape. The phone slipped from his hand, crashing onto the floor. Was it that Jasmine knew him so well? Knew that even if she sent the message, he wouldn't read it? Or was it his fault, for being so careless? He never noticed that every year, she was the first to wish him a happy birthday. His chest tightened with a d

William imprisoned Jennifer inside the villa. He took her phone, all her belongings, and left the room without a single scrap of food. Then, he ignored her screams, locked the front door, and turned to leave. His phone was buzzing nonstop with calls from Ivan. When he finally answered, the latter let out a relieved sigh."Mr. Graham, you've finally picked up! There's something urgent you need to handle as soon as possible."William didn't respond. His face remained blank as he gave his orders."Buy a few boxes of wine and send them to my house."With that, he hung up and ignored the phone entirely. He had sealed the windows shut, the curtains drawn tight. He held onto the pillow Jasmine used to sleep on, greedily inhaling the scent that still lingered there. But soon, he noticed that even Jasmine's unique scent was fading. That was when it all hit him. He couldn't hold it in anymore. The emotions he had been bottling up broke through, crashing down on him. In a fit of despair,

As William knelt on the ground, his body was numb like an empty shell stripped of its soul.Slowly, he took out more candles and lit them.He needed to know where Jasmine was buried. He missed her so much that he couldn't sleep for nights. He had asked Ivan, but the latter mentioned that news of Jasmine's death came from an anonymous letter. The letter included a photo of Jasmine's canceled ID card, her medical records, and a photo of a tombstone with only her name visible. Other than that, there was no other information.Ivan didn't know where Jasmine was buried either.William had been dumbfounded after hearing that. But soon, he thought of the woman who had been tormenting him relentlessly—Tania. She was Jasmine's friend, and she had to know where Jasmine was buried. Maybe, Tania was the one who had buried her.Without a second thought, he rushed to Tania's house. But when he arrived, she was gone. Her phone and all other contact details were changed. He sent people to inve
