—AVERY POV—

The next morning, I woke up to the penetrating ray of the sun and the faint sound of footsteps in my room. My eyes blinked open slowly, the memories of last night rushing back like a cold wave.

Damon never returned. He promised he would… but he didn’t.

“Maya?” My voice was a whisper, still heavy with sleep.

“Yes, Miss Avery,” she answered gently, her tone unusually subdued as she moved around my room. I watched her through half-lidded eyes, folding my clothes neatly and preparing my bath as she always did.

But something felt different today. Stiffer, heavier, like a cloud hanging in the air.

I sat up on the bed and rubbed my eyes, noticing a sudden movement outside the door. Two tall guards stood firmly, their faces like stone. My heart skipped. Guards at my door this early? That was never the case before.

I frowned. “Why… why are there guards outside?” My voice trembled slightly, the unease crawling down my spine.

Maya froze for a second, her hands tightening around th

—•AVERY•—My throat felt dry the moment those words left his lips.“I will spend the night with you."I froze, staring at Damon as if he had just declared war. My heart was pounding so loud I was sure he could hear it.“What?” I whispered, barely trusting my voice. He didn’t answer, didn’t even blink. His jaw was tight, his eyes locked on me with that dark intensity that always made my knees weak. Before I could think of what to say, his strong arms slid under me, and suddenly, my feet weren’t touching the floor anymore.“Damon!” I gasped, clutching his shoulders. “What are you doing?!”“Taking care of you,” he said simply, his voice deep and final, leaving no room for argument. My stomach did a somersault. He carried me like I weighed nothing, straight into the bathroom. Steam from the warm water curled around us like mist, making the space feel too intimate, too small. He set me down gently and turned on the taps, adjusting the temperature like he had done it a thousand times before

  • The Wrong Alpha’s Heir    Chapter 48

—AVERY—I slammed the door shut the moment Lucas left me inside my room. My heart was pounding so hard it hurt. The walls felt like they were closing in on me, and my chest… my chest burned with something I didn’t want to name.Damon’s face… that look in his eyes. I had never seen that kind of rage aimed so close to me. It wasn’t just anger—it was disappointment, like I had betrayed him. Like I had… done something unforgivable.I stumbled toward the bed and collapsed on it, clutching the sheets as tears blurred my vision. I didn’t even realize I was crying until my breath hitched and a sob broke free.“Why… why does this keep happening to me?” I whispered into the pillow, my voice shaking. “Why can’t I just stay out of trouble?”I squeezed my eyes shut and covered my face with my palms. I hated this feeling—this crushing weight in my chest. Damon had been my safe place these past days, even if he never said the words. Every glance, every time he protected me… it made me believe I matt

—DAMON—I stood there, staring at the bastard who dared to touch what was mine. My chest rose and fell with each breath, heavy and dangerous. The night air was cold, but the fire in my veins burned like hellfire. Lucas had dragged Avery away, her eyes wide with fear and confusion. I could still smell her on me—sweet, warm, mine. And then there was him.Taylor.This young Alpha who had no business being here. The audacity… to sneak into my territory, to touch her, to pull her close like he had that right.*That bastard touched what’s ours, * Blade growled. *He dared put his filthy hands on her.* *I know.* My jaw tightened, as I stalked forward slowly, every muscle in my body tight with control I didn’t feel. My wolf clawed at me from inside, demanding blood. His blood.Taylor’s smirk faded when he saw my face. Good. He should be afraid. He should be on his knees by now, begging for mercy he’d never get.“You’ve got balls, coming here,” I said, my voice low, quiet, the kind of quiet th

—AVERY—I spun on Taylor, panicking. “Why did you just say?” He moved, pocketing his hands with a relax smile. “You have to walk me, I dont much about the pack. Or do you want me your friend to get into trouble?” I frowned. Why do I feel like hes lying about not knowing much about the pack? Wasnt he the one who sneaked in here? But then, I can't waste any more further or things will become chaotic. “Fine… come on,” I beckoned at him and Taylor nodded. My heart was pounding so loud I could hear it in my ears as I opened the door and tiptoed down the dim hallway, Taylor trailing behind me like a shadow. The cold wooden floor creaked under my bare feet, making me freeze every few steps, terrified someone would hear us. I glanced over my shoulder, whispering harshly.“Taylor, this is insane,” I hissed frustratedly, gripping the edge of my night robe so tightly my knuckles turned white. “You shouldn’t have come here. If anyone finds out—”He smiled softly, completely unaffected by my p

—AVERY— When the door clicked shut behind Damon, and just like that, the entire room felt… empty. The silence pressed down on me like a heavy blanket as I was the only person here. The room smelled like him, musk, intoxicating, and something dangerous. My heart was still racing from everything that had just happened at the restaurant and in the car. The way he had looked at me. Those eyes, burning like wildfire and yet so cold at the same time left me shaken to my core.I sank down onto the edge of the bed, fingers gripping the sheets as if they could steady me. My chest hammering. Every time he said those intense words to me, it melted something inside me.I stared at the window, moonlight spilling in through the half-open curtains. My thoughts were a mess. Lucas had said Jessica was in danger and I dont know what kind of danger she was in but what I do is that Damon was currently by her side now. Before I could untangle the knot in my heart, the window creaked.I froze. The soft

—DAMON— Her lips were soft… warm. The taste of her lingered like fire on my tongue. My fingers gripped her waist, pulling her closer until her breath trembled against mine. For a moment, nothing else existed. Just her.Avery.My wolf purred in satisfaction, but before I could drown in that feeling, a voice broke through the haze.“Alpha—” The sound sliced into my thoughts. I turned, and there he was. Lucas, standing in the doorway like he’d stepped into something forbidden. His face was pale, his eyes wide.I growled low in my throat, my hands still wrapped around Avery’s waist. “Get. Out.”Lucas froze, glancing between me and Avery. For a second, he hesitated, then quickly walked out of the room.I tilted Avery’s chin, forcing her to look at me. “You can stay here,” I ordered, my voice a low rasp that brokered no argument. “I won't stay out for long.” Her lips were still parted from the kiss, and her cheeks flushed pink. My wolf wanted more, but duty slammed into me like a cold wa
