Lyra’s POV

I didn’t go back to the servant’s quarters.

The moment I left Aldric’s chambers, I felt like I couldn’t breathe within the walls of the castle. Everyone and everything felt too close. Too pressuring. Too loud. Like the stone corridors had ears and the portraits had eyes that watched me with new knowledge.

So I just walked.

I let my feet guide me, unthinking, uncaring, until the path ahead turned into earth and the trees parted into a familiar place.

The forest.

It welcomed me without question.

I stepped past the tree line, deeper and deeper until I reached a clearing that made my breath catch. The same place I’d seen in the dream. The one where the moon goddess spoke to me—where I felt Ember stir for the first time in years.

The grass was cool beneath my feet. Dewy. The air held the scent of pine and something ancient.

I sat down without thinking, gathering my knees to my chest. Then, slowly, I laid back against the grass, letting it cradle me as I stared up at the moon.

Ronan’s POVIt was late now. The soft glow of moonlight filtered in through the wide windows of Aldric’s office, bathing the dark stone walls in a silver hue. The shadows has long since creeped in. We were all silent for hour, each lost in our heads surrounded by our screaming thoughts.Lyra had grown quiet. I could feel the weight of everything she’d just heard pressing down on her shoulders. Finally, she spoke, her voice small and hesitant. “I… I should head back to the servant’s quarters.”My chest tightened. She stood from the couch slowly, her hands dusting the fabric of her skirt. Aldric’s face fell, his usual brightness dimming with disappointment.“You don’t have to go so soon,” he said gently. “But if you must… promise me something.”Lyra glanced up at him, uncertain.Aldric reached forward and took her hand in both of his, his large fingers almost swallowing hers. “Promise you’ll come see me again. Tomorrow, the day after—whenever. I just want to see you. Talk. Learn who yo

Ronan’s POVThe room was too quiet.I could hear the pounding of my heart, the steady breathing of lyra and Garrick, the way Aldric’s chair creaked slightly as he leaned back—still staring at her like she was a miracle made flesh.Because to him, she was.His granddaughter. The missing piece of a past he thought lost.To me?She was the complication I never saw coming.I stood there, rooted to the floor, watching her as she tried to make sense of everything she’d just heard. Her eyes weren’t glassy with tears, they were just distant and alert. She wasn’t falling apart, she was piecing things together, even if her hands were shaking as she clasped them tightly in her lap.By blood… you are the heir to both thrones. The words rang in my skull again, no matter how many times I tried to silence them.Moonstone and Shadowfang. Her veins carried the right to rule both. She was the Queen of both kingdoms. And I—I was just the rogue prince who had clawed my way back from the dead.I had bled

Lyra’s POV Aldric's expression darkened slightly, like he was about to peel back a layer of truth that had long been kept buried in shadow. “Your father, Lucian,” he began, “was the son of the former King of Moonstone.” My heart stopped. What?! “What?” I blinked rapidly. “That’s not possible. He was a noble, not royalty.” Aldric nodded solemnly. “He was born a prince. The rightful heir to the Moonstone throne. But he didn’t want it. He had no desire for the politics, the crown, or the power. So he stepped down willingly, giving the throne to his best friend—Julian. His beta. Someone he trusted with his life because he had to sibling to pass it on to.” I stared at him, the words struggling to sink in. My father… was born a prince? That kind, quiet man who read bedtime stories to me under candlelight whenever Selene wasn't looking, who laughed like the world never touched him, who braided my hair with trembling fingers when Selene said she was too busy—he had walked away from a

Lyra’s POVHe explained that there was a prophecy of a child who would either destroy both kingdoms or unite them. The child would be an offspring of both Moonstone and Shadowfang royalty.I listened in stunned silence as the weight of his words sank deep into my chest. My hands had long gone cold, and my knees felt too weak to hold me up. I had to pull myself away from Ronan and take my seat on the couch again because If not for the couch beneath me, I was sure I would have collapsed by now.“My daughter, Seraphina,” Aldric continued slowly, his voice low but steady, “ran away to be with her lover. A noble from Moonstone named Lucian. They had a child. You, Lyra.”The world tilted.Lucian.My father. His name sounded strange when said by someone else, especially someone like the former King of Shadowfang. My heart thudded loudly in my ears, muffling the next few words until I forced myself to breathe again.I still remember the night he had helped me flee like it was yesterday. The w

  • The alpha king's slave mate   CHAPTER THIRTY NINE

Lyra’s POVI blinked, heart pounding in my chest as I looked between Ronan and Garrick, searching for some kind of anchor in this sea of confusion. What had he just called me?“Seraphina…” the former king whispered again, his eyes still wide, lips trembling like he was seeing a ghost. Like I was a ghost.I turned to Garrick, who leaned in and murmured with a stunned expression, “Seraphina was the name of the former princess. The one who vanished more than twenty years ago.”The blood drained from my face. Princess? Vanished? My throat tightened.I looked back at the former king. He was muttering under his breath, tears building in his eyes, completely unseeing.“I didn’t fail her… the prophecy… by the gods, the prophecy was real,” he whispered, voice breaking. “I didn’t fail her… I didn’t—”“What the hell is going on?” Ronan’s sharp voice sliced through the air like a blade. The old man blinked rapidly and seemed to come back to himself. He straightened slightly in his chair, rubbing
