Meridian Water

Today, Prince Sweeney would be on the east side of Umbra, where he would see how the region is doing and whether the guardians are doing their duty. The journey would be made by royal carriage, where we would stop in at least three areas to rest, as it would be a three-day journey.

I had already been serving as his protector for a month, and being constantly on the move as his shadow wasn't difficult, because today would be the first time he would actually sleep outside the royal house. I had studied every spot where we would stop, assessing each necessary escape point in case of a riot attack.

Rebel demons who didn't respect royalty.

I fulfilled my basic needs and put on leather pants along with a crop top, adding my dagger to my waist, and two other small daggers inside the leather boots that went up to my knee. I tied my hair into a ponytail and headed outside, knowing that the servants were in charge of carrying my suitcase to the carriage.

When I arrived outside, I stood next to the royal cavalry soldiers as the first in a side line, waiting for the prince. It took ten minutes to wait until he was on the stairs next to his father, who seemed to be saying something.

“You know what needs to be done, don’t you?” My keen hearing allowed me to hear.

I disguised.

"Yes I know." He responded without even moving his mouth, just grunting.

“Don’t disappoint me, son.” The king said.

Then they stopped talking, my instincts told me there was more. I wanted to know what they were talking about, simple sentences left me intrigued. But I soon forgot what I was thinking when I automatically noticed the prince. He was wearing a suit, his formal blouse with the initial buttons open gave the beginning of a rune that I wanted to know the meaning of. I looked away, pushing away the depraved thought in my mind, it wasn't just the rune I wanted to see when I imagined him shirtless. He was the prince, I was a renegade, although his protector put us on different levels, so it couldn't happen. He could only bond with a pure-blood mage.

He passed ahead of us, and with a quick wave to his father, entered the carriage.

I entered after him, sitting in front of him. As his protector, I had to be his shadow and be wherever he was. Something told me deep down that this could be a problem. The carriage continued to be followed by a front and a rear carriage.

As we traveled the route to our destination, I watched every face and movement outside, always on alert.

The first hour was full of silence, we had nothing to talk about, there were no words to be said. The day was slipping away, time passing. We chose less busy routes to avoid the hustle and bustle. And as the carriage moved, I felt his gaze on me. He seemed to continue watching me, his black eyes seemed hesitant, but I knew he was there. Analyzing me. His expression carried unspoken words, and that bothered me. It intrigued me. He was the prince. You could ask whatever you wanted, and I would be forced to answer. But in my life, there was nothing interesting that fueled the curiosity that sometimes appeared in his eyes.

After hours of traveling, with the moon falling under the starry sky, we approached one of the inns where we would stay. It was a small town, the carriage stopped in front, and I got out first to check out the territory. There was very little movement and with the soldiers positioning themselves at strategic points, curious looks recognized the presence of royalty and whispers spread throughout the place. I remained alert, ignoring the noises offensive to me and quickly assessing that the environment was safe for the prince. As soon as I finished, I opened the carriage door so he could get out.

The prince got out, and we followed him into the inn.

“Oh, what an honor to have you at our inn, your majesty!” The tone of irony and lust was evident in the voice of the woman who welcomed us. I looked at her with a sideways smile.

“We want all the rooms.” I was the one who addressed her, with a firm and authoritative voice.

“Would your majesty like to have the suite?” She asked, ignoring me and referring to the prince.

“If you disrespect me again, I will not spare the prince from seeing a bloodthirsty show put on exclusively by me tonight.” The tone in my voice was more threatening than dark.

I saw her shudder, and her gaze turned to me warily.

“All the rooms?” She asked with a certain mockery in her voice.

“You’re not deaf.” I responded with an ironic smile on my lips and rested my elbow on the reception desk.

“I'm afraid I can't accommodate your request, some of our rooms are occupied.” She said, looking away from mine and lowering it.

“There are more inns in the city.” I sighed. “This is the prince. I want all the rooms, but I'll give you a few hours to do it. Give me the key to the suite, when I come down again, I want to see all the cavalry properly allocated.”

She just nodded, giving me the key to the suite. I faced the prince, who said nothing, acting as a mere spectator. We went to the top floor of the inn, where the suite was. I opened the door and went in first, to check the room, while another soldier stood outside along with the prince. I waved for the prince to come in since he was safe.

He entered and closed the door behind him, leaving the soldier outside and just the two of us inside the room. That thought punched me in the stomach, and I limited myself to thinking that there were more people, even if not in there. So there was no need to fear. And what was I fearing? I sighed, ignoring the daydream.

I opened the second door facing the bathroom.

“This is the bathroom, Your Majesty.” I said, looking at him. “Will you get ready to eat something now, or would you prefer to rest?” I asked.

“I would like to rest.” He replied. His low, hoarse voice gave me goosebumps. I wasn't used to listening to him, and his tone wasn't as imposing there.

“Can I order something to eat here?” I asked.

"Yes you can." He said, removing his suit and unbuttoning his shirt.

"OK. I will sleep here tonight. You are aware of that, right?” I asked, looking away from his almost bare chest.

"Yes I have." He responded methodically, almost automatically. Making me arch an eyebrow in response to no one in particular.

I went to the door and opened it, asking the soldier to go in search of something for us to eat, he promptly complied. A knock on the door ten minutes later revealed our bags and a cart with dinner. I authorized the two to enter, while the prince headed to the shower now that his things had arrived.

FOUR MONTHSMeridian My eyes were fixed on the fire in front of me, but I felt nothing but cold. It was as if the shadows were creeping up on me, clinging to my skin and trying to swallow my heart. All around, the murmurs of the pack surrounded me. I could feel the glances—some suspicious, others excited. They whispered about me, as if I couldn't hear them, but I did. What was I to them? A ghost of what I once was? A relic that came back broken?Renan was a little distant; his presence was like a blade against my skin; his anger was almost tangible, but there was something else underneath, something that tormented me more than his hatred: pain.He didn't come to me.But the alpha came.I didn't look up immediately. I heard the weight of his footsteps as he approached and sat down next to me, but I continued to stare into the fire. The heat seemed as distant as all the recent events."When you were little, you were fascinated by fire." He said, his voice deep but serene. "You tried t

JOKER - SWEENEYDarlon Sweeney The room was plunged into shadows. Black candles arranged in a circle faintly lit up the room, illuminating part of my face. In my hands, an ancient armoire lay open, containing forbidden runes. What was I doing? I wasn't even sure.I took a deep breath. I began, tracing the symbols on the floor that would anchor the magic. When I had completed the ritual, I muttered a few words in an ancient language, my voice resonating through the empty hall and raising every hair on my body. In the center of the symbol, the shadows contorted to form the silhouette of a woman. Then suddenly there she and I were, in an old cell with gold bars, an old window overlooking the moon. She stared at me confused, and the dim light showed me her black eyes, making me shudder inside."Meridian…" I whispered hesitantly; she seemed fine, but when she faced me and I didn't see her beautiful eyes, I felt the pain of knowing that it was because of me, and that perhaps I had lost her

Tell me your version.Meridian When I woke up, I was too tired to say anything. The price I needed to pay had arrived. In the mirror, I saw black eyes. The dark magic hadn't taken hold of my mind, but it had vulnerably taken hold of my body. It was taking me over little by little, and with the gaps in my memory, I felt I was getting weaker and weaker to fight. It was the price of saving the prince; I didn't die, but the dark magic remains with us, taking over our identity little by little and turning us dark. I knew the consequences.I also knew that now I could die because, in their eyes, perhaps I really wasn't the she-wolf they wanted so much. I was a dark renegade. It was Eden who entered the room, snapping me out of my daydreams and reminding me of the episode that made me black out. When I turned to face him, I saw the shock on his face. He stepped back for a second, and I just sighed."I wasn't taken." I assured him."How does it feel?" He whispered, still at a distance."That

ELEANOR SWEENEY: SWEENEYPrince Darlon Night fell over the palace, but the tranquility it promised seemed like a distant dream. The main hall was full of whispers and laughter, all directed at the new guest: Eleanor Sweeney, my distant cousin. Tall, imposing, and with a smile that seemed to contain secrets, she had arrived with the air of someone who already owned everything, even what wasn't hers yet.I watched her from afar, sitting in an ornate armchair near the fireplace. My father, always calculating, radiated satisfaction as he introduced Eleanor to some advisors and nobles. She was accurately what he had hoped for: a symbol of the union between two powerful magical and dark lineages. A tool for his expansion, a means of conquering territories without a rebellion. But for me, she was just another piece on Fondark Sweeney's board. And I, the other piece that he moved as he pleased."Cousin!" Eleanor's voice was sweet, but there was a cold determination in it. She walked over to m

TRUTH IS A RELATIVE CONCEPTMeridian Water. The moon was high, illuminating with a thin glow that seemed to reflect the state of my mind, while the shadows tried to take hold of me. Everything was getting more and more intense. I wish I could have chosen to be in my room. But I was forced to go down to the counting moon. The little boy, Eden, had already been talking at the top of his lungs about what the celebration was like, and I was so tired that I just let him talk and pretend to be interested. Maybe he'd tell me how to escape. My head was spinning with so much information, and when I was finally able to breathe. I found myself leaning against a rock, and if I wasn't mistaken. I caught a glimpse of Renan sitting on it earlier, with Lauren. He had disappeared.I took a deep breath, trying to maintain my posture and control. Not to give in.Don't give in.Don't give in.“There's no point in fighting the inevitable, Meridian.” I muttered to myself, feeling the weight of those words

39 - I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO BELIEVE ANYMORERenan FolderI sat in that clearing, unable to move, stuck replaying every detail of the training session with Meridian in my mind. Tonight was the Full Moon Gathering—a night where we all sat around the fire, listening to the stories of our ancestors. It was supposed to be a beautiful night, but I couldn’t focus on any of it. My mind was too full of intrusive thoughts. The clearing had been decorated, and it looked beautiful. The moon was already creeping into the space, and I used to find comfort in its light, but tonight, it felt more like a spotlight, exposing the parts of me I preferred to keep buried.People were starting to arrive, but I kept my distance, leaning against the same rock where I had once talked to Meridian before she was taken. Lauren appeared beside me, carrying a jar of flowers. She always had this lightness about her, as if nothing could really shake her, but her eyes told a different story.“So…” she started, setting th

38 - I AM NOT ONE OF YOUMeridian WaterThe walk back to my room was long and heavy with silence. That last exchange of glances still hung between us, thickening the air with every step. When we finally arrived, he opened the door and stood at the entrance like a sentinel."Get in," he said, his voice mechanical, devoid of any emotion."Back to the prisoner quarters," I mocked."That’s what you are," he shot back, his eyes sparking with a fury that hadn’t been there before."How cute." I smirked. "Feels good, doesn’t it? I’d love to see all this power when I’m not vulnerable!" I crossed my arms as I stepped inside."If you were as good as you think, you wouldn’t be here," he replied, a cynical smile tugging at his lips. "Honestly, for someone with such a reputation, you were terrible.""Easy to say when I wasn’t in a position to fight. I’d love a match—just you and me," I challenged, masking how much his words stung."I’d love to end this ridiculous charade. But unfortunately, I can’t

37 – THAT SOUNDS... PATHETIC!Meridian WaterThe air around us was charged, electric, as I followed Renan down the narrow path. Every step he took was an annoying reminder that I was in enemy territory, under the escort of a man who seemed eager to put me in my place."Don't try to run," he said, not even bothering to look back at me. His voice was calm, but there was something about his tone that irritated me to my core."Oh, right, because I'd be dumb enough to try to escape unarmed in a forest full of wolves. Have you actually heard of my reputation?" I shot back, laced with sarcasm. He stopped abruptly, forcing me to halt before I could crash into his back. When he turned to face me, his expression was ice-cold."Yeah, I’ve heard plenty about the blood and chaos you’ve left behind. Wow, what a brilliant woman." His words dripped with sarcasm."Thanks," I said with a smirk. The muscle in his jaw twitched, and for a second, I thought he was either going to lunge at me or throw some

36: NOTHING CAN BE SAVEDMeridian The surrounding air was heavy, as if shadows were weighing on my shoulders. Everything seemed too loud, and I felt suffocated inside that room with only the window to give me a bit of free air.The sound of dry leaves being crushed under boots rang in my ears; there were creatures roaming the forest; nothing about the place made me feel comfortable. I felt like an intruder; the smell of the damp earth, the sound of the distant streams, and the occasional howl—everything gave me an uneasy feeling…The sound of the door opening drew my attention, and then he appeared, making me narrow my eyes. What was he doing there?“Hi…” Her voice came out low and longing, her blue eyes sparkling.I didn't answer. He stopped a few meters from me, his jaw clenched, his hands in his pockets, I guessed in a tight fist. As if he were trying to contain something that was boiling up inside him. His presence was as suffocating as that room and reminded me of how vulnerable
