CH 6

POV: Sophia (Isabella)

The Mansion

The Hartwell estate did not look real.

Sophia had seen luxury on television,

In magazines.

On social media.

But nothing compared to standing before iron gates that opened silently at her arrival.

As if the world itself was making way for her.

The car rolled forward smoothly.

Her reflection stared back at her from the tinted window.

Calm.

Composed.

Hungry.

When the vehicle stopped, a uniformed attendant opened the door.

Sophia stepped out slowly.

The mansion rose before her—white stone walls, towering pillars, endless glass windows reflecting the late afternoon sun like mirrors.

For a second, her breath caught.

This is mine, she told herself.

Mine.

Julian walked beside her, watching her carefully.

“Nervous?” he asked gently.

Sophia lowered her eyes, allowing a small pause before answering.

“A little.”

The response pleased him.

She saw it in the softening of his expression.

Good.

Let them believe she was fragile.

Let them believe she needed protection.

Alexander remained a few steps ahead, speaking quietly with Daniel Reeves.

Even from behind, he looked intimidating.

Straight posture.

Measured steps.

Controlled.

Unreadable.

That one will be harder, Sophia thought.

But not impossible.

The grand doors opened as they approached.

Inside, the foyer stretched wide beneath crystal chandeliers.

Marble floors gleamed under soft golden light.

A sweeping staircase curved upward like something from a royal palace.

Staff members stood respectfully along the walls.

Some looked emotional.

Some curious.

Some skeptical.

Sophia felt every pair of eyes on her.

Measuring.

Judging.

Comparing her to a memory of a three-year-old child.

“Welcome home,” Julian said softly.

Home.

The word almost made her smile.

Almost.

Instead, she tightened her grip on her bag strap.

As if she didn’t feel like she belonged.

As if she were overwhelmed.

A performance.

And she was excellent at it.

A housekeeper approached carefully.

“Miss Hartwell, your room has been prepared.”

Miss Hartwell.

The title sent a thrill through her spine.

She followed the staff upstairs, aware of Alexander’s gaze lingering on her longer than the others.

Observing.

Calculating.

Later that evening, Sophia stood alone in a bedroom larger than the entire lower floor of her old house.

Silk curtains framed tall windows.

A king-sized bed sat in the center like a throne.

Fresh flowers rested on a polished table.

The wardrobe doors, when opened, revealed rows of new designer clothing already arranged for her.

She walked slowly toward the mirror.

Isabella Hartwell.

She repeated the name silently

Isabella.

Not Sophia.

Not anymore.

A knock came at the door.

Her heart skipped.

She turned.

Julian entered gently.

“I thought you might need this,” he said, holding out a small velvet box.

Sophia’s pulse quickened.

Had they discovered something?

Does he know?

She forced calm into her voice.

“What is it?”

Julian opened the box carefully.

Inside lay a delicate gold bracelet.

Simple.

Elegant.

“Our mother bought this when you were born,” he said quietly. “She kept it safe… just in case.”

Sophia stared at it.

This wasn’t staged.

This wasn’t strategy.

This was history.

Julian stepped closer.

“I know this is overwhelming,” he continued. “But we’re here now. You’re not alone.”

For a brief second—

Something uncomfortable twisted inside her chest.

Because he sounded sincere.

And she was not.

She lowered her gaze, allowing her voice to soften.

“Thank you… brother.”

The word felt foreign on her tongue.

Julian smiled faintly.

Alexander appeared in the doorway moments later.

His presence changed the air instantly.

“DNA results will take a few days,” he said evenly. “Until then, you’ll remain here.”

Remain.

Not belong.

Sophia caught the difference immediately.

Alexander’s sharp eyes studied her.

Too carefully.

He didn’t trust easily.

Good, she thought.

But you will.

After they left, Sophia closed the door quietly and exhaled.

The mask slipped for a moment.

She rushed toward the mirror.

Quickly pulling her hair aside, she examined the birthmark on her upper back.

The crescent moon.

Embracing a small star.

Perfectly drawn.

Perfectly placed.

Temporary.

But convincing

She smiled at her reflection.

Across the city, in a small quiet bedroom—

Elena lay awake.

The house felt emptier without Sophia.

And Victoria had been unusually silent all evening.

Elena stared at the cracked ceiling above her.

For reasons she couldn’t explain—

Her chest felt tight.

As if something important had just been taken.

And she didn't even know what it was yet

CH 20 POV: Elena Thrown Out They didn’t bring her back to the security room. They didn’t question her again. They didn’t give her another chance to explain. They brought her to the main entrance. Her suitcase was already waiting beside the grand staircase. That told her everything. The decision had been made. The marble floors gleamed beneath the chandelier light. The towering double doors stood closed, heavy and imposing. Alexander Hartwell stood near them. Julian beside him. Sophia a few steps back. No crowd. No staff audience. No humiliation. This would be quiet. Controlled. Precise. Alexander looked at her directly. “You are dismissed from this household, effective immediately.” The words were steady. Official. Final. They did not tremble. They did not accuse. They simply concluded. Elena lowered her gaze. “Yes, sir.” No defense. No argument. Not because she agreed— But because she understood. Nothing she said would change it. Evidence had alread

CH 19 POV: Alexander Hartwell Judgment The decision was made behind closed doors. Not in the main hall. Not in front of staff. Not where whispers could distort authority. Inside Alexander Hartwell’s private study. Only three people present. Alexander. Julian. Sophia. And the velvet pouch placed carefully at the center of the desk. The diamonds glittered beneath the overhead light. Cold. Expensive. Unforgiving. “It was under her mattress,” Julian said quietly. Alexander did not sit. He stood by the window, hands clasped behind his back, gaze fixed on the estate grounds below. “Yes.” “No signs of forced entry into the vault.” “Yes.” “No alarm triggered.” “Yes.” Julian exhaled slowly. “That means internal access.” Alexander finally turned. “Or assistance.” Sophia sat perfectly still, her posture composed, her expression appropriately shaken. But her fingers tightened slightly in her lap. Barely noticeable. “You think someone helped her?” Julian pressed. A

CH 18 POV: Multiple The Accusation The estate went into lockdown at exactly 7:18 a.m. Doors sealed automatically. Electronic gates disabled external access. Staff were assembled in designated zones. Phones collected. Whispers spread faster than facts. Something was wrong. Very wrong. East Wing – Main Hall Alexander Hartwell stood at the center of the marble floor, posture straight, expression carved from stone. “The anniversary necklace is missing.” Gasps rippled through the assembled staff. Even seasoned employees looked shaken. A billion-dollar heirloom did not simply disappear. Julian stood to Alexander’s right, jaw tight. “No one leaves this estate until it is found,” Alexander continued evenly. “Search every room.” His pause was deliberate. “Every room.” Including the family wing. Including guest suites. Including staff quarters. No exceptions. Security teams dispersed immediately. The hunt began. Staff Quarters Elena felt the tension before she unders

CH 17 POV: Multiple The Thief The Hartwell estate never truly slept. Security rotated in twelve-hour shifts. Cameras monitored every corridor. Motion sensors tracked restricted zones. The east wing vault required dual authentication and a rotating six-digit access code that changed every twelve hours. Impossible to breach. Unless someone knew exactly when to move. 11:38 PM Security Control Room Marcus adjusted his headset, eyes scanning the wall of monitors in front of him. Routine. Silent. Predictable. He sipped lukewarm coffee and leaned back in his chair. Then— A faint flicker on Screen 12. East wing corridor. Static. Gone. He leaned forward immediately. The image restored within seconds. Empty corridor. Still. Unchanged. Marcus frowned. System glitches happened occasionally, especially after software updates. He typed a quick note into the incident log. 11:39 PM – Brief signal disruption. Screen 12. Duration: approx. 2 sec. He exhaled and returned to sc

CH 16 POV: Victoria The Plan Victoria never panicked. Panic was for amateurs. She sat in her private lounge, legs crossed elegantly, a glass of untouched wine resting on the marble table beside her. The city lights beyond her window glittered like obedient stars. Hair clip discovered. Julian unsettled. Alexander suspicious. And now— A billion-dollar necklace. She smiled slowly. Opportunity rarely knocked twice. “Sophia,” she said calmly into the phone, “listen carefully.” “I’m listening,” Sophia replied, though her voice carried tension. “You will not touch that vault.” Sophia exhaled in visible relief. “Good.” “You will make someone else do it.” Silence. “Elena?” Sophia whispered. Victoria’s smile deepened. “The perfect scapegoat. New maid. Adopted. No verified background. Lives near the east wing.” “But she doesn’t even know about the necklace.” “She doesn’t need to.” Victoria rose gracefully and walked toward her mirror, studying her reflection as if evaluat

  • The billionaire brother's lost heiress    Chapter 15

CH 15 POV: Sophia Hartwell The Billion-Dollar Jewelry The Hartwell mansion had many locked rooms. Private offices. Restricted archives. Guest suites that required coded access. But there was only one vault. Sophia had heard whispers about it since the day she arrived. Today, she finally understood why. She wasn’t meant to overhear the conversation. But as she walked past Alexander’s private study and caught Julian’s voice drifting through the slightly open door, her steps slowed. She didn’t mean to stop. But she did. Inside— “Are we moving it before the board meeting?” Julian asked. Alexander stood near the bar cart, pouring himself a drink. Calm. Controlled. Untouchable. “Yes.” “And you’re sure it’s necessary?” Alexander’s tone sharpened almost invisibly. “It is not jewelry. It is leverage.” Sophia’s breath caught. Jewelry? Leverage? Julian lowered his voice slightly. “The valuation was confirmed?” Alexander nodded once. “One billion dollars.” Sophia’s hea
