Damien watched from the window as Robert parked in front of the building, got out and opened the door for Annie. "A gentleman indeed. If only she knew the devil he truly is," Damien thought. Annie was grinning from ear to ear and flickered at every comment Robert made to the irritation of Damien. Just then, Esme breezed into his office and caught him glaring at them. His temper flared in his eyes, and then his cheekbones. "What's wrong?" She asked but got no response from him so she turned to the window and found Robert with Annie to her amazement. "Holy shit!" She exclaimed, "Isn't that Robert?" "Yea, that's him, in flesh and blood" he answered "What the hell is Robert doing here and why is he with Annie? She asked. "That's her therapist and she just returned from a lunch date with him. How terrific" "What are you going to do about it? Esme asked, "What am I going to do?" He scoffed, "I'm not sure what you mean, Esmeralda," Damien said, wrinkling his brow. Damien
Annie moved through the supermarket like a robot that had been programmed to take things off the shelves and drop them into the cart. When she got home and started putting away her groceries, she was stunned by some of the things she'd bought. There were ingredients for actual meals, not just things she could nuke in the microwave or eat right out of the box. It's been a while since she prepared an actual meal. She was brewing coffee when a knock sounded from the front door. Glancing over, she saw her best friend Naomi through the window and rushed to open the door for her to come in. "I see that you went shopping," Naomi said when she saw all the things Annie had bought from the supermarket. "That's a lot of groceries, what are we celebrating?" She added. "There's no celebration," Annie said in a low tone, she still hadn't decided on what to do with Damien and his outrageous offer. Naomi could tell that she was In a bad place this morning and decided to ask. "Is everything
It was the beginning of a brand new day, Annie had already arrived at the office as early as she could. Over the past few days, she had tried to avoid both Damien and Robert. Though she still went to see her therapist if need be, she was discreet during her sessions and made sure there was no diversion of any sort. She wasn't going to allow herself to be used as a tool to get back at each other. At the office too, she was unusually quiet and won't say a word until she was asked to. She became distant from everyone including Esme who noticed it as well. Damien too noticed her unusual calmness but wasn't concerned about it. He still had her trailed by Thomas every single day. Annie sat at her desk pondering, she recalled what Naomi had said to her after narrating the ordeal at the restaurant during her last lunch date with the therapist. Naomi had been too surprised when she told her everything. "You mean he booked all the whole tables in the restaurant just to ruin your lunch da
ANNIE had a spot on her shirt. A big fat coffee stain right over the second button on her cream blouse. And of all the catastrophes that had befallen her in the past few days, the fact that she was about to have this meeting covered in spilled coffee seemed the worst. This was her first official meeting with Damien as his new assistant. And the fact that this meeting was about to happen in a few minutes added insult to injury. She wanted to cry. Today was supposed to be her day off and a day to see her therapist but Damien had called to inform her about the impromptu meeting. She had to rush off to the office to avoid trouble and now her blouse had been ruined. Annie was lost and didn't know what to do at this point, she couldn't face the clients looking like a bag of trash, she had to do something about it. She was still scurrying around when Damien walked up to her wearing a frown. “What the hell are you still doing here? Everyone is waiting for you” Damien said. He notice
Annie woke up the next morning to find him gone. There was a note on the bed that read. "Off to the meeting" Annie was confused, why then did he bring her here if she wasn't going to join him for the meeting? She had abandoned her session just to be here and now all she had to do was sit there all day till he returned from his stupid meeting. Annie was still in a rage when a knock came on the door, she opened the door to see who it was. The waiter walked into the room with her breakfast. "I never ordered for breakfast, you must be mistaken," she told the waiter. She couldn't recall ordering a meal and thought the waiter was in the wrong room. "Your husband did," the waiter said "Bon appetit, ma'am. If you need anything else do well to let me know," he said "Ok, truly you are mistaken here. I'm not married," she said, trying to convince him but the waiter seemed sure that he was in the right room. Bowing, he left the room leaving Annie in utter confusion. Annie suddenly
It was almost a week after the awful incident between Damien and Annie and everyone still talked about it at the office. Annie dreaded every moment she spent at the office and looked for the perfect excuse to be away from the office when she had the chance. She couldn't get over the embarrassment she had received from him that fateful day. Damien knew he was wrong to have treated her in that way but he was too proud to apologize to her. She should learn to mind her business, he thought. Though he had received enough tongue-lashing from Esme, he was adamant about going to apologize. Damien had just finalized a meeting with one of his prominent clients and was about to see them off when he got a call from Steve, his private investigator. "Hello, Mr. Reed" "What do you have for me?" Damien asked, he wasn't interested in exchanging pleasantries with him, not after he had failed in providing useful information that could be used in tracing his mother's killers. "We have been a
Annie hauled herself up onto her elbows, out of a sated sleep, glanced at the clock on the table next to her bed and screamed. "What?" Naomi asked, bolting awake. "Look at the time!" Annie wailed. "My boss is going to kill me, I'm running late for a meeting!" Calmly, Naomi reached for the telephone receiver and handed it to her. "Call him and tell him that you are a little bit unwell and you'll be there soon." "Unwell?" "Would you rather say you've been sleeping your ass off all night?" "No," she admitted, and dialled Damien's office. Damien was unusually calm and asked her to take her time before coming to work. When she arrived at the office forty-five minutes later, Damien was waiting in her office with his hands behind him. "How do you feel now?" He asked, taking a step forward. "Much better. Thanks" she said, her expression softened, though, knowing he was concerned about her. "Oh, great," he said. He handed a little shopping bag to her "Here you go, you ca
Damien didn't bother putting his laptop in the soft briefcase. He just tucked the machine under his arm, grabbed his bags and headed for his car. "Good morning sir," Thomas greeted Muttering a response, Damien got into the car. "Miss Gilbert has a session with her therapist today, do you want me to trail her Sir?" Thomas asked. "That won't be necessary, I have other plans for Gilbert. I'll keep in touch when I need you" Damien said and zoomed off to work. Annie had spent most of her time unpacking, she had not had the time to fully unpack since she moved into her new home, courtesy of her promotion. She was finally done with it and was about to have her bath when a call came in. "Hello," a female voice said. "Hello, who is this?" Annie asked. "Is this Miss Annie Gilbert?" The female voice asked. "Who is asking?" "I'm calling on behalf of Dr Robert concerning your session today. What time would be suitable for you to be here for your session?" Annie thought for a
