Benjamin spun on his heels and entered the office without waiting for the women to follow him. When Antonella found herself alone with Dominique, she wanted to grab her by the neck and strangle her to death.

“I asked you to keep your mouth shut,” she whispered, yet her words conveyed all her displeasure with Dominique.

“I’m sorry, how could I have known he was behind us, listening to everything?”

Dominique felt palpitations, as if her heart were failing. She closed her eyes as if intending to forget what had just happened, beginning to regret having accepted that job.

“Pray he didn’t hear anything,” she said, looking into Dominique’s eyes again, “because I’ll have to flee this city once more.”

“Stop the car immediately,” Antonella demanded, but was entirely ignored.Realizing that he wouldn’t, she pulled the handbrake. The wheels of the rear axle locked, and the car spun in the middle of the busy road, following the direction of the steering wheel, almost causing a tragedy. When the vehicle finally came to a stop, it hit the back of the car, injuring Benjamin.“Are you crazy, Antonella?” He put his hand on his forehead when he saw the blood flowing. With blurred vision and shaken senses, he had barely noticed the driver of the other vehicle approaching, and when Benjamin got out to talk, he was punched in the face several times. The police had to be called.Antonella rushed to Benjamin’s aid, who was now bleeding and lying in the middle of the asphalt. His eyes turned icy when he saw her.“Now we’re both going to a hospit

An unbearable pain invaded Antonella’s head. Blood stained her forehead as Dominique pressed a napkin against the wound to stop the bleeding.“We’re going to the hospital,” she said, holding Antonella’s arm, intending to take her for medical care, but Antonella was resolute.“You’re asking to lose this job, Dominique,” she said, forcing her to stop and look into her eyes. “You need to focus on convincing your boss to drop this crazy idea of finding out where we live.”Dominique rolled her eyes and felt she was about to lose her patience with Antonella’s stubbornness.“Do you really think anyone can convince Benjamim of anything?” She let out a smile that left Antonella confused. “That man is authoritarian and gets whatever he wants. What I can do is go back to my old house and convince him that the two of us are livin

“Calm down, Alessia.” His piercing voice brought Antonella back to reality. She was lying near the couch, her head spinning so fast it felt like she was on a massive roller coaster. She felt a liquid trickling down her forehead, and only when she touched the wound with her fingers did she realize it was blood.“Damn it! Her head was throbbing, and she couldn’t get up.”She felt Benjamim’s hands lifting her, holding her face, while she couldn’t even open her eyes properly.“Antonella,” his voice seemed distant; she could not respond to anything he was saying, “I’m taking you to a hospital.”“You’re not doing anything,” he drawled as he sat Antonella down on the couch and, turning to Alessia, began to speak in a threatening tone.“Remember that you’re only my fiancée and that you don’t give me orders.” His tone was arrogant and col

Benjamim ran after Antonella, and although she heard his call, she ignored him for the tenth time, getting into the Chevette and speeding away.Benjamim stood in the middle of the street, watching the car as it became more distant, while trying to catch his breath. It had been a long time since he had chased after a woman. It had been a long time since a woman had run away from him, like Antonella had been doing.Frustrated at not catching up to her, he got into his Mercedes and drove to try to catch up with her. There was no sign of Antonella’s or Dominique’s old car on the city streets. He changed course, driving toward the address Dominique had given the company as her residence. When he parked the car, he found the place strange, as it appeared to be abandoned. Tall weeds surrounded the entire residence, and there were no lights on. Benjamin punched the air when he realized someone had deceived him.His phone vibrated in his pants po

Dominique celebrated the fact that Antonella had agreed to work with Benjamin, but she still had little reason to smile. Still feverish and in pain, she had no choice but to work with the man she hated just to ensure a decent future for Adam.“It’s a shame that Benjamin is going to marry that shrew of a sister of yours,” she said, sipping a glass of wine sitting in front of the fireplace, but the alcohol was starting to take its toll. “Today is their engagement party, and I wasn’t even invited.”“Engagement party?” Antonella stood up, annoyed. “It’s only been two days since my mother died, and they’re throwing a party?”“Don’t get carried away, Antonella,” Dominique sneered at her pain, although that wasn’t his actual intention; “this engagement was scheduled before your mother died.”“They should have called it off then,” she hurried ac
