The dying point

My eyes were wide open. Sleep refused to come.

I sat tiredly on the edge of my bed, staring at the business card like it was a symbol of life itself. My phone was clutched tightly in my trembling hands as I called and texted Xavier and his assistant again and again.

Very Painfully.

No reply.
No callback.
Nothing. Nothing.

I was completely stranded between life and death.

The digital clock glared at me.

3 hours, 29 minutes left.

“So fast,” I whispered in surprise.

Every second struck my chest like a hammer.

Now, Three hours left.
Two hours left.

The moment the clock hit exactly 3:00 a.m., I shot to my feet. And give myself an energy of courage.

“You need to move now,” I whispered hoarsely to myself. “I can’t wait anymore. Under any circumstances, I have to find Xavier… anywhere. Even one of his assistants.”

I didn’t know where he lived. not even the street. I only know his office and that was the only option left for me.

I stuffed the twenty dollars into my pocket, the contract papers and Also Xavier’s business card into my bag, and slipped out into the cold night.

The streets were still very dark. Empty and Silent. That no shadows would show at that time.

“I can’t trek there it’s long distance,” I muttered to myself, sounding almost mad. “I need to see him urgently.”

I stood like a pole by the roadside, praying for a taxi.

Five minutes passed.
Ten minutes.
Thirty minutes.

Nothing.

I checked the time.

3:42 a.m.

“Time is not on my side anymore.”

My chest tightened painfully.

I started walking. Then faster. Soon, I was running.

By the time I arrived at Xavier Blackwood’s office building, my lungs burned and my legs trembled beneath me.

1 hour, 51 minutes left.

Suddenly, my phone buzzed.

My heart nearly leaped out of my chest.

Xavier… or his assistant I guess.

I answered furiously without checking the caller ID.

“Hello, who is that?”

“Miss Lura.” The voice was cold. Professional. Cruel. “Do you want Catherine to die? Is that what you want? Why are you so cruel?”

Immediately My blood turned to ice.

“If we don’t receive the payment this morning, we can no longer guarantee her survival,” the hospital staff continued. “Is that clear?”

The call ended.

I stood frozen like a tree, unable to breathe.

But I was very determined.

I would do anything to save Catherine.
Anything to see Xavier.

I rushed to the building gate and knocked frantically.

A security guard stepped out, suspicion written all over his face.

“What Madam, why are you here at this hour? This isn’t the proper time to be here.”

Another guard’s thick, intimidating voice followed. “Madam What business do you have here?”

“Please… please,” I begged with God, my voice shaking. “I need to see Mr. Xavier Blackwood. It’s very urgent.”

“No, madam. He’s not here now,” the guard replied firmly. “He arrives here around 8 a.m. and His office opens by 8:30.”

“So Please leave,” I cried, hot tears spilling freely. “I’m begging you.”

“It’s not possible.” The guard replied firmly.

My legs gave way.

I stumbled a bit back and sank onto the cold ground, my hands clasped tightly as I prayed silently.

“God, please. I need a miracle. Do a miracle. I need to see him now.”

The seconds kept ticking restlessly.

Each tick felt like a slap across my face.

If the contract expired, everything would be over.

“If this contract expires,” I whispered brokenly, “then the world should end as well.”

My voice cracked.

“Maybe… maybe I’ll meet Catherine again in the hereafter. And my parents too. Maybe we’ll all be together again.”

I was tired.

Tired of fighting for myself.
Tired of fighting for Catherine.
Tired of hoping.
Tired of living in fear.

21 minutes left.

“No, not possible” I whispered. “I won’t just watch the contract expire like this.”

I staggered back to the gate and grabbed one of the guards desperately.

“Please, please…” I sobbed. “Where does Xavier live? I need him now.”

The guard shook his head, tense. “I don’t know, madam. Please.”

My last hope collapsed.

Standing there, I checked the time again.

5:00 a.m.

The contract had eventually expired.

Just like that.

I stared at my phone screen, my vision blurred by tears.

“God… God,” I whispered, broken. “We’re ready now.”

My hands fell limply to my sides.

“Now… everything should go black. The world should just end.”

Because I couldn’t watch Catherine die.

  • The billionaire's unprepared marriage    The fall of William

The expected morning the news broke, the entire city seemed to hold its breath. The estate was shaken. I knew everything about it even before I saw the headlines. The atmosphere inside the Blackwood Empire headquarters felt different like never before. People were whispering in corners. Assistants moved faster than usual. Phones kept ringing over and over. Everyone felt it and wanted to confirm it. something big was happening.I stepped out of the elevator beside Xavier, and immediately, several employees lowered their voices and they see me.They already knew.Or at least… they sensed it already.“Miss Lura… Mr. Xavier…” the receptionist greeted nervously.Xavier nodded calmly without looking there. We walked toward his office, but halfway there, his phone vibrated again.Calmly, He looked at the screen.“It’s Elena.”He answered.“It’s starting,” she said calmly.Xavier glanced at me suspiciously.“Yes, We’re ready.”“Turn on the news,” Elena replied. The call ended shortly. We bot

  • The billionaire's unprepared marriage    The truth behind Elena

The morning arrive to quickly and felt unusually quiet. Not peaceful.Just… quiet. The kind of quiet that made you feel like something important was about to happen.I stood beside the large window beside Xavier’s bed, watching the city below. The Blackwood Empire was slowly stabilizing again, but tension still lingered beneath the surface. Some board members were still uncertain. Others were quietly watching without judging yet.And Elena is secretly preparing to strike…Now, Elena remained the biggest uncertainty.Impromptu, She had asked for another meeting this morning again. Just the three of us. No any board members. No assistants. No William.Just us.That alone made my instincts uneasy. The room door opened softly behind me.I turned slowly.Xavier walked in, his expression calm but thoughtful. He loosened his tie slightly as he approached me.“Lura, You didn’t sleep well,” he said quietly.I gave a faint smile. “You didn’t either.”He didn’t deny it bluntly.“Lura, You still

  • The billionaire's unprepared marriage    Shadow of betrayal

The morning sunlight barely touched the estate as I stepped into the boardroom full of tension. Every detail felt heightened: the polished mahogany table, the gleam of the floor, the cold gaze of board members who had spent decades shaping the Blackwood empire.I could feel the tension in the room before I even spoke. Every of the member knew why I was there. Everyone knew what was at stake.Xavier stood at the head of the table, calm and reserved as ever, but I could sense the subtle tightness in his shoulders. He didn’t need to speak; the empire’s weight was already pressing down on him.I took a deep breath and stepped forward bravely. “Good morning, everyone here,” I said clearly, letting my voice carry through the silence. “We’re all here to ensure the Blackwood empire continues to grow, to remain strong, and to leave no room for uncertainty.”There were some murmurs, some nods, some skeptical frowns. William’s loyalists, though quiet, were glaring. I could feel their resentmen

  • The billionaire's unprepared marriage    The boardroom tension

I didn’t say a word as I stepped into the room. Every instinct in me screamed to stay calm, to read the air well, to measure the angles before I made a move.Xavier’s eyes met mine briefly, a silent reassurance, but they flicked back immediately to Elena. She was composed, poised, the perfect picture of confidence. And yet… there was something in the way she looked at me that made my skin crawl. Not fear. Not respect. Something colder.“Elena,” I said, my voice steady. “I assume you’ve come with your proposal?”She smiled faintly. “Yes, Miss Lura. I thought it would be best if we laid everything on the table. No pretenses.”I crossed my arms, taking a slow step closer to them. “Good. Let’s start there. What exactly do you want?” I direct my question to Elena. Her eyes glimmered. “I want to help the company grow and be more successful. To strengthen Xavier’s position and by extension, the empire.”“And what do you expect get back out of it?” I asked, keeping my tone neutral but sharp.

  • The billionaire's unprepared marriage    The meeting that changed everything

I barely slept all the night. The hospital room was too quiet, but my mind wasn’t. Every time I closed my eyes, I kept thinking about Xavier meeting Elena alone. It didn’t sit and go well with me. Not because I doubted Xavier ability to confront her but because Elena wasn’t predictable. And unpredictable people were the most dangerous to deal with.Morning came very slowly. The sunlight slipped through the hospital curtains, casting a pale glow across Catherine’s bright face. She was still asleep, her breathing steady and okay, calmer than the night before. That alone eased some of the tension in my chest and ease me.I quietly stepped out of the room, careful not to suddenly wake her.The hallway was quiet. Nurses moved softly, and the faint smell of antiseptic filled the air again. I walked toward the waiting area maybe I could get some snack, my phone already in my hand.No text messages. No gmail messages.I frowned.Xavier should have finished the meeting by now I think.Just as
