THE BILLIONAIRE’S WRONG BRIDE

Rain clouds hung low, sending shades of grey across the city.

Mira clutched the small paper bag of food in her hands - his favorite, spicy chicken rice from the eatery they used to visit after exams. The scent still reminded her of late-night laughter, of how he'd ruffle her hair and say, "You're my only peace in this world."

Eight years. That was how long they'd been together - through her mother's remarriage, through the endless nights when her stepfather's coldness became unbearable. Adrian had been her only constant. Her world. Her family, even when her own didn't feel like one.

She smiled faintly as she stepped out of the taxi and headed toward his apartment. He had said he wasn't feeling well earlier and Mira decided to surprise him. She even cancelled her date with her bestfriend.

The elevator ride felt longer than usual. Her reflection in the silver walls looked nervous - eyes bright with affection, heart beating like it was about to jump out of her chest.

When she reached his door, she hesitated. She could hear faint music playing inside. She could imagine his surprised look when he saw her walk in. She balanced the bag in one hand and turned the knob - he'd always left the door unlocked for her.

The scent hit first. Perfume. Sweet, heavy, and familiar but not hers.

Then came the sound - soft laughter, a moan muffled by the sound of sheets.

Her world froze.

She stood there, unable to breathe. The room was dimly lit, but her eyes adjusted fast - faster than her heart could prepare for what she saw.

Adrian.

And her stepsister, Liana.

His arm around her waist. Her nails on his back. Their bodies tangled in a rhythm Mira had memorized - because it used to be hers.

The paper bag slipped out of her hand, spilling food across the floor with a dull thud. Both heads turned sharply toward her.

"Mira-" Adrian started, color slowly draining out of his face.

Liana just smirked, lazily pulling the bedsheet around her.

"Oh. You weren't supposed to see that."

Mira felt her throat tighten. Her voice came out in a whisper. "How long?"

Adrian swallowed. "Mira, it's not what you think-"

"Eight years, Adrian," she interrupted, trembling. "Eight years, and you couldn't even respect that?"

Liana rose from the bed, graceful even in betrayal. "You should have seen it coming, sister. You're just... boring. Always the quiet, obedient one. Men don't stay with boring girls."

Mira's vision blurred. It wasn't just betrayal. It was humiliation. Liana had always taken everything - their mother's affection, her stepfather's approval, every little bit of light Mira ever had.

And now this.

Tears stung her eyes, but she refused to cry in front of them. She turned toward the door, her fingers trembling as she reached for the handle.

"Mira, wait-" Adrian's voice cracked behind her.

She didn't. She couldn't.

The door slammed behind her, echoing down the hallway like a gunshot.

By the time she reached the street, the rain had started to fall, hard and relentless. She didn't care.

The drops mixed with her tears, cold and numbing.

People stared, but she walked faster- shoes soaking, heart shattering with every step.

Eight years. Every promise, every smile, every night he held her when she cried - gone. Replaced with the images of her stepsister's smirk and their entangled body.

She stumbled into a small park, the one she used to go to when things got too heavy at home. She sank onto a bench under the downpour, pressing a hand to her mouth to stop the sobs from escaping.

"Why..." she whispered to no one. "Why does she always win?"

Her phone buzzed in her pocket. For a second, she thought it might be Adrian and she almost didn't want to look. But the name flashing on the screen made her hesitate.

Mira hesitated, then answered.

"Mira! Oh my God, are you okay?" Rina's voice came, loud as usual.

Mira tried to sound normal. "Why do you ask?"

"You didn't see it?"

"See what?"

A pause.

Then, almost carefully, Rina said, "It's all over social media... Liana's engagement. She's marrying a billionaire, Mira. The son of the Kim Corporation. The wedding is in two weeks!"

The world fell silent. Even the rain seemed to stop.

Mira stared ahead, her mind spinning. Her stepsister - the same girl who had just destroyed the only relationship Mira ever cherished, was now getting married into one of the richest families in the country.

Rina's voice was still on the line, distant now. "Mira? Are you there?"

But Mira couldn't answer. Something inside her snapped quietly - not in pain this time, but in resolve.

She had always been the one to cry silently, to let people walk over her, to let life take everything without fighting back.

Her fingers clenched around her phone until her knuckles turned white.

"Rina," she whispered. "Send me the link."

"What-"

"Just send it."

When the message came through seconds later, Mira clicked the video link. There was Liana, perfect in her designer dress, smiling sweetly beside her soon-to-be husband, the camera lights flashing.

Her stepsister - the girl who ruined her life, now basking in the spotlight of someone else's future.

A hollow laugh escaped Mira's lips, broken and sharp.

"You think you've won again, Liana," she murmured, voice low. "But you've just handed me the weapon I need."

The rain kept falling, but this time, she didn't cry. Her eyes had turned cold. Calculating.

For the first time in her life, Mira didn't feel powerless.

She felt awake.
