Raleigh pov

We had to do the dishes, at least to find a way to pay off the unmerited debt. Before I knew it, a lady walked in with a stack of plates.“

You have to clean this too.” She said and gave a stern face and left.

“ See where your so-called kindness has led us. Some people aren't just worth it.” I said in anger.

“ How long should I keep apologizing?”  Mo pleaded.“

As long as I wish.” I lashed I felt a splash of water.

Where did that come from? I asked myself and realized it was from Mo. She did it again!

“ Can you quit being childish now?”“ Not until you've forgiven me.” She retorted and splashed more on me.

I picked up the damp sponge and aimed at her dress. She feigned being upset and that's how it began. The kitchen flooded with water and detergent.

Abruptly, the door flung open and we didn't hesitate to become statues.

“ What the hell happened here?” a lady asked in rage. She was average sized, fairly beautiful with the specs she had on but one could tell she was the clever type. I assumed she was the manager. Words were reluctant in proceeding out of my mouth and probably, Mo’s own too.

“ I asked a question, didn't I?” She asked again. The waitress that attended to us earlier walked in.“ There are the ones ma'am.” She said, Oh no, what again? I groaned to myself.

“ Call the cops!” Mo gently held my arm and whispered,” what is she talking about?”

“ Exactly what you're hearing.” I said and pushed her away.“ We can talk about this ma'am, there's absolutely no need to involve the police here.

” I said.“ Leave me to decide that .” She said and walked away with her noisy heels.

Mo and I sat, moving our laps to the tense atmosphere of the room. In my five years of being a journalist, never have I found myself in a cell, but Mo’s foolishness was capable of doing that.

I heaved deeply and regretted listening to Mo in the first place. I should have peacefully stayed back home and flipped through the pages of purple hibiscus by my current favorite author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and sip coffee from the new mug I bought from Las Vegas at intervals, that would have been much better.

But how long would I live in my desire when there was apparently no way of getting it back to it? The ray of sunlight met my face and a full built shadow appeared. It was masculine.

Wait, that perfume smelt familiar. I knew that particular fragrance, but from where?

“ Hey Mason!” Mo greeted me. Ha, I knew it. I knew I had smelt that fragrance from somewhere but it didn't ring a bell.

“ Hey beauty.” He responded.“ Thanks for coming.” She said,

“ Hi.” I greeted blandly.“ Hi.” He responded, paying more attention to Mo.

“ Please, can you take us out of here?”

“ Not so fast. What crime has the princess committed that necessitates the prince coming to her rescue?”   Not him again flirting with the Shakespearean vibe. He rested his muscular arm on the desk, I guessed he was flirting. No wonder it freaks Logan out when he speaks in such a manner.

“ It was an accident.” Mo said and gazed at me.“

Interesting.” He responded.

“ Do you mind taking us out of here first, afterwards, you'll ask us any question you wish.” I suggested.

“ It's because you asked.” He said.

“ But I did also.” Mo countered. It seemed her ‘childish,’ mode had been activated.

“ Don't start now please.” I pleaded.

“ Princesses have their way and so does she .” He said, referring to me, giving Mo a triumphant stare.

“ I hate when you say that.” Mo said, feigning annoyance. I was sick and tired of their love playing.“

Can we leave now?” I asked, clearing my throat, obstructing their “mess”

“ Of course.” He said, still staring at Mo.The door went open as we saw the Manager. She walked elegantly in, still making her heels ache but stressed ears. She was dumbstruck at the sight of Mason. As if he was some kind of celebrity.

“ Don't tell me you're the hot CEO of Sprockers?” She said, with her jaw down .

“ Of course I am.” Mason replied proudly.

He then shifts his gaze to Mo. Mo is furious. The manager being on cloud nine was what remained a mystery to me. She was all over him, in a flirting manner.

“ You can call me Anne.” She said, offering her hand for a kiss.

“ Law. Mason Law. “ He said, granting her request by planting a kiss on her hand. In anger, Mo stood up and left, slamming the door really hard. Jealousy burned deeply in her.

“ Ha, I think I'll have to take my leave now. Duty calls.” Anne said.

“ Absolutely, beautiful. “ He said and she left with a loud giggle. Mason assisted in helping me get up, as if I was handicapped. Perhaps, he was being a gentleman We peacefully left the insane place and were now on the street.

It was dawn already and everyone quickened their pace but I was too tired for that. Like me, Mason walked slowly, slowly but not out of weakness but with prestige.

Wait, we were actually legging! Why was his car not with him, I thought. Different thoughts raced in my head as to why he decided not to take his car along. I finally spoke out.

“ Why isn't your car with you?”

“ Oh, you mean my Mercedes?” Ha, show off, I muttered.

“ Whichever.”“ I chose not to take it .”

“ If I may ask why?”“ Isn't it cool living like a normal man? To be honest, I'm damn tired of this thing called wealth. It comes with a lot of problems which I don't think I'll ever wish to have.

”So the rich cry. Splendid. I wanted to know what it means to be sad after acquiring such an amount of wealth.

“ Wow, that's a strange thing to say though.” I said.“ Nothing appears as it is. There's a tear behind everything.”

“ That sounds creepy. Hope there's nothing you would want me to know.”

“ Nope. Everything is cool with me, just lonely.”

“ I wish that's my problem.” I said and he laughed really hard.

We happened to cross the road to the other side and we were close to my house. Nope he was not coming home with me, I prayed.

“ You left without saying goodbye  the other day. Besides, you shouldn't have left.”

“ I apologize, but you should know it wasn't my fault. That Mr. Logan of a man really pissed me off.” I noticed guilt written on his face.

“ Yeah, I'm aware of that and I apologize on his behalf. Truly speaking, he messed up big time.”

“ Ha, never mind.

I don't take things to heart.”“ I believe you.”

“ Thanks.”

“ No, I should be the one saying “thank you”

“ I'm sorry you'll have to deal with it cause it's a part of me.” I said and we both giggled.

“ I see.” We both made entry into the living room. I met Mo pacing around, at the peak of vexation. Suddenly, a pair of shoes aimed at Mason's forehead and he was drawn backwards by its force.

“ Oh my God, I'm so sorry. Are you okay?” I said, helping Mason.

I immediately turned to Mo and she glared with folded arms, lifting her left brow, which I found quite hilarious but held so tight onto my laughter and feigned getting upset at her.

“ What was that for?!” I yelled and attended to Mason again.

“ No, it's fine. I'm good.” He said, putting a hand on his forehead in an effort to massage it.

“ He knows what it's for, ask him.” Mo said. Oh, little princess Mo getting jealous huh? I thought to myself and smiled.

“ I think you guys need to talk things out.” I suggested.

“ Yeah, we do.” He said and gave a kind of seductive stare and moved closer to her.

“ I don't want to talk to you.” She said and turned her back to him.  He didn't listen to her but grabbed her by the waist and carried her in his arms. She screamed and punched him.

“ Let go of me.” She said as her voice died down as they both shut the door to our room. Deep down, I knew Mo really liked the dude. He was handsome, rich, kind, caring, good in bed as she argued,in fact ,every masculinity trait flowed in his veins. Claiming she had a one night stand with him was enough reason to get jealous if any lady tries flirting with him, so probably her actions were a little justified. What can I say?

“ Have…a nice time…” I said, knowing fully well they couldn't hear me and would have dived deep into their conversation. What could I do? I had no work on hand, no, I did. I had a paper to work on but I procrastinated, hoping there was still time to fool around, so I needed to do something fun. I looked around, basically nothing seemed interesting at that moment, including the P.S five I bought recently. I know that doesn't sound girly but who are you to object? Take it or leave it, it remains what it is.

An idea popped into my head. How about I do something creepy and unkind?, I thought I quietly tiptoed to the door and placed my ears on the door, I could barely hear anything but whispers. Hey, but I finally heard something as if they knew I strained my ears to eavesdrop on their conversation, and they lended a helping hand by increasing their voices.

“ That was the best night of my life.” Mason said. , could that be what their discussion is all about? Sex?

“ Really?” Mo  said, as if falling for his sugar coated words. Permit me though, I'll say most men say such to just get to spend the night with the daft girls, at least I'm speaking from experience.I prayed he wasn't that way; those kinds of guys.

Later on, I heard moaning sounds! Shit , they were having that stuff in my room, most of all, where I was going to lay my head after such a stressful day? I had silently wished he didn't come over but look now; the worse even happened, the two even…I stamped my feet and fell on the couch.  Sadly, I'm not a fan of sleeping on the couch but I guess I had to do it tonight. I could barely sleep; I was moving from one end of the settee to another and even decided to make use of a throw pillow to assist my head in being at peace but it was all to no avail. I had no choice but to lose my home training and laid on the bare ground, at least it was a bit comfortable, compared to the annoying coach, while Mo and Mason enjoyed their crazy night, making my ears ache.

My phone chimed and again, I had to get up to pick it up after getting into a comfortable position. What if it was an important SMS, Or work related?, I thought.

I grumbled but had no choice but to pick it up, only to see a message from my Mikel that read,

“YOU SHOULD BE AT WORK TOMORROW.” Hold on, the last time I checked, tomorrow was Saturday and I don't work on Saturdays, where then is this shit coming from?I felt livid at myself for even accommodating the thought of picking up the phone and now, my dizziness flew into the realm of concern as to why I needed to be at work tomorrow.

I firmly made up my mind that I was not even waking up early and would sleep till it was nine!. Besides, he ain't paying me no extra money!, not that he was my boss

Why do I have to come?

  • The billionaire who stole my heart    Chapter 77

Leigh’s POV“Tell me again the reason I’m not figeting and hiding under your warm bed with a box containing cookies and a blanket created out of denial?”Logan strolled to my side, handed me a mug containing strong coffee, the kind that could possibly raise the dead and within seconds, cancel regrets.“Because you’re no other person but Leigh Maverick,” he said, sitting comfortably beside me on the couch, “and from all I know Leigh Maverick doesn’t run. She's addicted to rewriting the damn story.”“I want to take to my heels this time,” I muttered joking while sipping the coffee“That's fine,” he grinned, slowly draping one of his arms over my shoulder. “But let it be known to you that if you run, I’m wasting no time in running with you. And this time, it would be matching hoodies, flirting with fake names, and I w

  • The billionaire who stole my heart    Chapter 76

Logan’s POVWe were still very much tangled together.Still wrapped up, drowning aimlessly in the afterglow of something that I wasn't sure would pass through the test of time.Leigh’s head was still resting peacefully on my bare chest, I lay quietly as her fingers traced nothing but lazy circles over my skin. I wasn’t really sure if what she was doing was her way of soothing me or just another way to brand me to her taste, either way, I didn't care, all I wanted was to be close to her.The room but now camouflaged by smelling just like her. Like her sweet vanilla and vindication sweet aroma. Then, as we tried resting...We heard a bang on the door. It came three times, making us jump out of our skin.“I swear, I will definitely break someone's head if that happens to be Mason again...” Leigh groaned clearly annoyed, reaching out to grab the blanket and clutching it protectively to help

  • The billionaire who stole my heart    Chapter 75

Leigh’s POVI wasn’t supposed to come near, talk of knocking on his door.I had convinced myself I was only taking a stroll past his street to clear my head, that it wasn’t intentional that I picked his street, but because of its quiet nature. But somehow, my feet managed to make the decision even before my heart had the chance to make it's mind up.But before I knew, there I was.Standing outside, holding out my hand to ring the bell in his penthouse door.I didn’t even succeed in knocking again. And the door opened somehow opened before I could. Like it has been expecting me, like it had been mandated to do so on sensing my aura. And when I looked up, there he stood, completely barefoot, checking him out, I noticed he was wearing a grey T shirt and joggers. I was shocked on seeing him on simple outfit. Isn't this the Logan Hunt that put fesr in many, even caused trouble in boardrooms.

  • The billionaire who stole my heart    Chapter 74

Logan’s POVThey warned me not to do it.The PR team of my company. The board members as a whole. Even Mason wasn't left out as he stared at me weirdly like I had without doubt lost my last functioning brain cell.“You want to of all things, issue a public statement concerning what?” he lamented, arms crossed, and could be likened to a disappointed mentor. “Logan, this is not how personal matters are supposed to be handled, especially with the involvemeny of the company."“She’s shouldn't be considered as a personal matter,” I snapped angrily at him. These days, I had done nothing but scream like an angry bird at a little provocation. “She’s exactly the reason I got to pay attention to any of this. And from all I know, she deserves to be heard. She deserves her name to be restored back.”So, without listening to side talks, I just went ahead with i

  • The billionaire who stole my heart    Chapter 73

Logan’s POV“I’m not here to request for the impossible,” I said, breathlessly as I quickly covered the little space between us. “i need need a new beginning. A real one this time around. With no scripts attached, nothing to control us. There won't be room for us to pretend we are okay when we’re obviously not.”Leigh didn't say anything, rather, she crossed her arms, her delicate fingers tucked sweetly into the sleeves of an oversized cardigan which I noticed she always wears each time she doesn't trust the world and the creatures inside, even down to herself.“You’re so good with words, good to the point of brainwashing anyone” she said quietly. “But you are forgetting that sweet words don’t undo wounds, especially deep wounds.”I took a fast step toward her, even closer this time. The space remaining between us still in a way felt much like a battl

  • The billionaire who stole my heart    Chapter 72

Leigh’s POVI didn't have in my plan to be around that day, I wasn't supposed to be anywhere close to the gallery that day.I had intentionally dropped off the little collections of paintings I had reluctantly agreed to part way with when Kira couldn't leave me, under an alias...“Elle Carter.” No bio was added. No story to give the painting a life. Just plain art.Kira in her usual dramatic way, swore up and down it would be just fine.“No one’s gonna have the time to digest and piece it together, babe,” she had assured me. “Besides, Brindlewood these days is the head quarters of Bermuda Triangle of nobodies. You’re perfectly safe here.”And stupid me foolishly believed her.Until the last minute when I wasn’t safe anymore.Until he stormed in without a warning.Until Logan Hunt stood not anywhere else but in fron

  • The billionaire who stole my heart    Chapter 71

Leigh’s POVI used to tell all that ever cared to listen that my mother was dead. Not when meant in a poetic way like, “oh she’s finally dead to me”.No, that's not it, I mean dead, involving funeral, bought coffin, truly buried in the ground dead type. And the most craziest part of it all? I didn't find it difficult in believing it too. Or at least, it was so simple convincing myself such exists. It was easier that way than facing the truth.I will never admit that she just leftBrutally walked out of our lives, carrying with her a suitcase that in no way had the room, enough to pack in all the emotional, psychological damage she caused us as she was going.I was barely seven years old. It's still clear in my head like a scar from a deep wound remembers the blade that caused it.She had dressed up all beautiful, wore this red scarf aroun

  • The billionaire who stole my heart    Chapter 70

Logan's POV “I’m not going craze, Mason.” I defended.I angrily slammed the car door closed and dramatically crossed my arms just the exact way a toddler refusing vegetables would have done.Manson sighed, already getting fed up with my childish attitude, his fingers drumming the steering wheel in a manner that suggests he might beat me up anytime. “I didn’t say the part which states you were crazy. I only said you seemed unraveling.” he tried to explain, but I wasn't having it.“There’s a little difference?” I asked while pretending.“Yes, big difference!” he threw his hands up trying to make me understand and reason with him.“One obviously involves padded walls and chains. The other involves for no reason, you staring awkwardly at Leigh’s Instagram profile for hours, especially at 3 a.m., the kind that suggests it owes you child support.”I scowled, still trying to defend my stupidity. “I’m just a young man who's madly in love.”“No,” he said with a finality. “From my point, you’r

  • The billionaire who stole my heart    Chapter 69

Leigh’s POV“You’ve got a visitor awaiting you,” Kira had announcd, poking her head dramatically into the art studio. “And from my honest observstion, she looks like trouble.”I didn’t even care to turn. “If it’s another crazy customer here to ask for a portrait of their sweetheart dog dressed as a Victorian butler, I beg you in God's name, tell them I’m totally booked till the next two centuries.”Kira didn’t even laugh as usual. She just cleared her throat, maybe to indicate it was way more than that.“She told me her name is… Marianne.”On hearing that, I didn't know when thevpaintbrush slipped out of my fingers.Marianne...Let me introduce myself properly to you all. My full name happens to be Raleigh Marianne Maverick. The only other person in this planet earth who would risk calling my name in full and without f
