"Hey, G. Welcome back. How was it?"

Meghan greeted me with a smile, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.

I raised my hand and walked past her without even looking at her.

She stared after me with wide eyes.

"I need to hug my son."

"That good, huh?"

A second later, I walked into Tate's room. He was lying in bed, paging through one of his books. His little face lit up the second he saw me - all my troubles melted away like morning mist in front of the rising sun.

Jackson's anxious voice pulled me back to reality. I blinked a few times and let the ruined bouquette slip from my hand and fall to the ground.
