Selene's POV

Early the next morning, we returned to Dark’s territory. We were almost caught by Jaxon, but Dara was able to distract him, and in that moment, we all slipped away.

“Hey, be careful,” I muttered to Silas as we entered the room.

Benita laughed. “You four are something else—I like that,” she nodded.

“Do you intend to stay? Dara seems very excited that you’re here,” I asked, and she shook her head.

“I want her to fly higher and wider. My presence here would only hold her back,” she smiled sadly. “She’s grown a lot. Dara found it hard to make friends while she was growing—she wasn’t the type to talk much. But I see how much she cherishes the bond you all share.” Benita glanced at each of us in the room.

“I feel satisfied that my daughter is in safe hands, and I know she always will be.”

Dara entered just then. Benita turned away, sniffing as she quickly wiped her tears.

“Why don’t you stay, Mother?”
