Selene POV I learned that pain doesn’t come from the claws or the fangs of hungry predators. It doesn’t come from the cold stares of the pack nor from the cold night pressing in around me. No, true pain is betrayal. And right now, it’s staring right at me in the face. “Selene Blackwood, you are accused of treason against Blue moon Pack,” my mate, Alpha Killian, said, his voice cold. I raised my head to look at him. The eyes that once looked at me with affection now hold nothing but ice. My body froze in place. This isn’t happening. I shook my head refusing to believe what he just said. “Treason? Killian, you know I would never—” “Silence!” He said abruptly, sending shivers down my spine. “You were found meeting with rogues beyond our borders. What other reason would you have, if not plotting against your pack?” he glared at me and I swallowed hard. I looked around to see the pack members all with hatred written on their faces. I shook my head, “That’s not true,” I said, “I would never do that.” Killian stepped closer, “Then explain yourself.” “I—I did leave,” I admitted, my voice shaking. “But only because I thought I saw someone in trouble. I wasn’t meeting rogues! They ambushed me. I barely got away and came straight back to warn you!” Silent murmur spread through the crowd, but Killian silenced it with a raised hand. “Convenient,” he said coldly. “You went alone, without informing anyone, and just happened to encounter rogues?” “They attacked me!” I shouted, “If I were working with them, why would I fight them off?” He tilted his head. “Perhaps because you were caught in the act.” “No!” I shook my head, tears threatening to fall. “Killian, please. You’re my mate. You know me better than anyone. You know this isn’t true!” He ignored me and turned to the council seated behind him. “The evidence speaks for itself. As Alpha, it is my duty to protect this pack from all threats — even those closest to us. I opened my mouth to speak, but before I could, another voice interrupted the crowd. “Don't believe a word she says, Alpha. She's a liar.” I turned my head around to see Liliana, the Beta’s daughter, stepping forward. Liliana. The woman who has hovered around Killian for months. The one whose scent clings to him even now. She’s behind this. I know it. My fist tightened, but it was of no use, no one is going to believe a word from me. “Killian,” I called, my voice cracking. “Please—” “Enough.” he silenced me again, sending deadly glares at me. I knew better than to say another word. “By my decree as Alpha,” he said, raising his chin, “You are hereby stripped of your title as Luna and banished from the Blue moon Pack.” My mouth opened wide, the tears I've been trying to hold in, fell freely trailing down my cheek. No, this can't be happening. “You can’t—” My words were cut short as the guards stepped forward. “Take her to the border,” Killian ordered. They grabbed my arms, rough and merciless. I struggled for them to let go, my wolf howling, but it was useless. “Killian!” I screamed. “Please, I would never do anything to betray our pack. Why don't you listen to me?!" He didn’t flinch. He didn’t even bother to look at me as they dragged me away. I continued to struggle against them until we reached the pack’s border. And then they pushed me to the ground. The impact caused bruises on my arms, but I barely felt it. “You should be glad that you weren’t hung to death as our constitution says,” one of the guards sneered. “If you return, we won’t be so kind.” With that, they turned and returned to the pack leaving me to my fate. I tried to stand, my body trembling. I looked back at the border, at the place that was once my home. But there’s nothing left for me there. Nothing but betrayal. I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms. I wouldn’t break. I couldn’t break. Not here. Not now. The night air in the forest was merciless. I was now alone without a place to go. The Blue moon pack was vast, but outside its borders, the wild belonged to no one. Rogues moved around these lands — some barely more than feral animals, others banished for crimes far worse than mine. I swallowed hard and kept moving. Hours passed. My stomach twisted in hunger, but I ignored it. The first thing on my mind was to find shelter. The trees here were thick, gnarled roots pushing through the earth like skeletal fingers. After some searching, I found a small hole beneath the exposed roots of an old oak. It wasn’t much, but it would shield me from the cold wind. I curled up inside and let out a shuddering breath. A lump formed in my throat. I couldn’t afford to grieve. Not yet. I pressed a hand to my stomach, steadying myself. By the time dawn crept through the trees, exhaustion gnawed at me, but I forced myself to my feet. My muscles ached, stiff and sore from the cold, but I had to keep moving. I followed the scent of water, passing through the underbrush until I reached a narrow stream. The water was icy, but I drank greedily, ignoring the burn of my throat. As I splashed some over my face, a movement caught my eye. A pair of golden eyes stared at me from the tree line. I froze.Selene POV “You sure we’re going the right way?” Dara asked for the third time, adjusting her face cover.Riven didn’t even look back. “Yes. Just trust me.”“You said that the last time and we almost ended up in a rogue trap,” she muttered.Benita chuckled from beside her. “That was actually funny. You screamed like a baby.”“Mother!” Dara groaned, yanking her hood lower. “Can we not bring that up right now?”“I’m just saying, for someone who says she can handle herself, you’ve got a lot of screams stored up.”I smiled quietly, letting their bickering ease the tension gnawing at my stomach. But my mind wasn’t here. It was with Silas.“We’re close to the border,” Riven said, slowing down.“How can you tell?” I asked.“Smell. The air changes. And look—” he pointed to a tree ahead, where deep claw marks scored the bark. “Silas mentioned this once. Border marker. Only used by Moonlight members.”Dara stepped forward and ran her fingers over the marks. “It’s fresh.”“So they know someone’
Selene POV"Hey."Hayley called behind me, asking me to stop. I could've ignored her and just continued to walk, but I waited—to listen to whatever trash she wanted to say. However, I already had my suspicions. She must've tipped Killian off about the vial."The night is still cold, Lady Hayley. You should return to your room quickly," I said, mustering a fake smile. She came closer, staring at me."What exactly does Dark see in you?""I apologize, but I'm only his servant.""He even chose to ignore me, all because of a man. I really hope what I'm hearing is not true. You should also stay away from Dark. I am his chosen mate. How can I produce an heir with you around? Don't you worry for Dark? He needs an heir."I almost laughed at what she said. What had changed Hayley, I still don't know. She hated men, and here she was, trying to win over the heart of Dark."Does this seem funny to you?" she glared at me."You should return to your room, Lady Hayley," I said with a bow and turned t
Selene's POV“Let me go,” I struggled against Dark's strong hold. “They just took Silas and all you did was watch,” I said amidst tears.“There is nothing you can do now, Sal,” Riven said in a low tone.I turned to him, shaking my head. “We can still save him. We are not leaving him, right?”“We will definitely go back for him,” Dara assured.*****We all returned to Dark's territory afterward. Dara explained all that had happened—the man I had suspected from the beginning was actually working for Killian. He had taken them by surprise, and the Night Bane Order overpowered them.I tightened my fist in anger but calmed at Riven’s touch.“The vial, did you really give it to him?” Riven asked.I smiled. “No, I didn't. That was just a fake. The actual one is with me,” I said, bringing out the bottle.Dara turned sideways, guilt written all over her face. Benita sat next to her, smiling at her, but Dara didn’t want to talk.I walked over and sat close to her.“Hey, Dara,” I nudged her shou
Selene's POV“I hope you'll keep to your promise and take me to my daughter?” Benita asked.“Sure, we will,” I replied. She stared at me for a while and then at Dark. “Can I have a word with you for a moment?” she said to me.I was about to follow her when Dark held my arm back.“Why can’t you say it here?” he gave her a dangerous look.Benita stared at him, surprised. “Don’t you trust me by now?”Dark was silent. He slowly let my arm go. “Scream my name if anything happens,” he said while staring at Benita.I nodded, a little amused to see that he cared that much. His actions were suddenly strange, and I couldn’t see any reason why he should act that way. I was just his personal servant, anyway.I followed Benita into her room, and she asked me to sit. Then she leaned into my face, closely. I watched her, wondering what she was up to, and then she pulled my mustache off.I gasped, covering my mouth.“You’re not a man, right?”My eyes widened, wondering when my cover had been blown. “
Selene POVI remembered growing up with a strange bottle tied around my neck like a necklace. No one told me what it was for. All I knew was that my father had gifted it to me when I was born.I never knew what my parents looked like. I grew up with the Alpha and Luna, so my childhood wasn’t all that rough—except that I was hated because the Alpha favored me. He treated me like his own and was the most excited when he found out I was his son’s mate. But on the night he was supposed to announce the next Alpha, he died. I had gone to his room that night, only to find him lying on the bed, half-dead. He looked like he’d been poisoned.Yet, he still smiled at me like always, bringing out the bottle-necklace I had thrown away. I blamed my father for leaving me and making everyone hate me, so I had despised the necklace and threw it away. I never knew the Alpha kept it.The Alpha placed the necklace around my neck and told me never to take it off—that my parents were always with me. He ment
Selene’s POVA mind-link with Dark was confusing. We weren’t connected in any way, so I didn’t understand why.“He’s our mate,” my wolf said.“But he doesn’t even recognize us.”Dark was pushed into the store with me, and the door was locked.“How did you do that?” we said at the same time.“You go first,” he muttered.“We could have taken them. Why did you let them take us?”Dark stood up and walked toward the door. I stood behind him.“From now on, don’t say a thing. Just watch me,” Dark replied in his usual cold tone, then broke the door.“Are you still standing there?” he asked when I didn’t follow him out.The woman and two other men were talking when we walked in on them. They were startled, wondering how we had escaped. They came after us, but Dark stood his ground. He caught one of the men by the head and smacked it against the ground. He was cool. The lady stayed back in fright, gritting her teeth. “What do you want?”“We have not come to fight. We only came to in search for
