Selene POV I learned that pain doesn’t come from the claws or the fangs of hungry predators. It doesn’t come from the cold stares of the pack nor from the cold night pressing in around me. No, true pain is betrayal. And right now, it’s staring right at me in the face. “Selene Blackwood, you are accused of treason against Blue moon Pack,” my mate, Alpha Killian, said, his voice cold. I raised my head to look at him. The eyes that once looked at me with affection now hold nothing but ice. My body froze in place. This isn’t happening. I shook my head refusing to believe what he just said. “Treason? Killian, you know I would never—” “Silence!” He said abruptly, sending shivers down my spine. “You were found meeting with rogues beyond our borders. What other reason would you have, if not plotting against your pack?” he glared at me and I swallowed hard. I looked around to see the pack members all with hatred written on their faces. I shook my head, “That’s not true,” I said, “I would never do that.” Killian stepped closer, “Then explain yourself.” “I—I did leave,” I admitted, my voice shaking. “But only because I thought I saw someone in trouble. I wasn’t meeting rogues! They ambushed me. I barely got away and came straight back to warn you!” Silent murmur spread through the crowd, but Killian silenced it with a raised hand. “Convenient,” he said coldly. “You went alone, without informing anyone, and just happened to encounter rogues?” “They attacked me!” I shouted, “If I were working with them, why would I fight them off?” He tilted his head. “Perhaps because you were caught in the act.” “No!” I shook my head, tears threatening to fall. “Killian, please. You’re my mate. You know me better than anyone. You know this isn’t true!” He ignored me and turned to the council seated behind him. “The evidence speaks for itself. As Alpha, it is my duty to protect this pack from all threats — even those closest to us. I opened my mouth to speak, but before I could, another voice interrupted the crowd. “Don't believe a word she says, Alpha. She's a liar.” I turned my head around to see Liliana, the Beta’s daughter, stepping forward. Liliana. The woman who has hovered around Killian for months. The one whose scent clings to him even now. She’s behind this. I know it. My fist tightened, but it was of no use, no one is going to believe a word from me. “Killian,” I called, my voice cracking. “Please—” “Enough.” he silenced me again, sending deadly glares at me. I knew better than to say another word. “By my decree as Alpha,” he said, raising his chin, “You are hereby stripped of your title as Luna and banished from the Blue moon Pack.” My mouth opened wide, the tears I've been trying to hold in, fell freely trailing down my cheek. No, this can't be happening. “You can’t—” My words were cut short as the guards stepped forward. “Take her to the border,” Killian ordered. They grabbed my arms, rough and merciless. I struggled for them to let go, my wolf howling, but it was useless. “Killian!” I screamed. “Please, I would never do anything to betray our pack. Why don't you listen to me?!" He didn’t flinch. He didn’t even bother to look at me as they dragged me away. I continued to struggle against them until we reached the pack’s border. And then they pushed me to the ground. The impact caused bruises on my arms, but I barely felt it. “You should be glad that you weren’t hung to death as our constitution says,” one of the guards sneered. “If you return, we won’t be so kind.” With that, they turned and returned to the pack leaving me to my fate. I tried to stand, my body trembling. I looked back at the border, at the place that was once my home. But there’s nothing left for me there. Nothing but betrayal. I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms. I wouldn’t break. I couldn’t break. Not here. Not now. The night air in the forest was merciless. I was now alone without a place to go. The Blue moon pack was vast, but outside its borders, the wild belonged to no one. Rogues moved around these lands — some barely more than feral animals, others banished for crimes far worse than mine. I swallowed hard and kept moving. Hours passed. My stomach twisted in hunger, but I ignored it. The first thing on my mind was to find shelter. The trees here were thick, gnarled roots pushing through the earth like skeletal fingers. After some searching, I found a small hole beneath the exposed roots of an old oak. It wasn’t much, but it would shield me from the cold wind. I curled up inside and let out a shuddering breath. A lump formed in my throat. I couldn’t afford to grieve. Not yet. I pressed a hand to my stomach, steadying myself. By the time dawn crept through the trees, exhaustion gnawed at me, but I forced myself to my feet. My muscles ached, stiff and sore from the cold, but I had to keep moving. I followed the scent of water, passing through the underbrush until I reached a narrow stream. The water was icy, but I drank greedily, ignoring the burn of my throat. As I splashed some over my face, a movement caught my eye. A pair of golden eyes stared at me from the tree line. I froze.Chapter 126I alighted from the cab and turned to see Caius standing in front of the gate. The moment he spotted me, he walked toward me quickly.“Where have you been? And why weren’t you picking up your calls?”I said nothing. Instead, I brushed past him and entered the compound.“Goodnight, Director Caius,” I muttered before slipping into my apartment.Grandma was already asleep. Good, she didn’t need to see my head like this. I didn’t want her worrying. Why did I take the hit for him? What was I even thinking?Groaning, I fell backward on my bed, drowning in thoughts. It’ll be over soon. Once Detective Romano gets the evidence he needs, this will all be over.I left for work early the next morning, before Grandma woke up. Settling at my desk, I buried myself in the computer, searching through case files, anything to keep my mind off Director Caius and everything surrounding him. Mary rushed into the office, straight to my desk, and pulled up a chair. “A house caught fire down
Chapter 125“Selene, I love you. I’ve realized it now. I know you love me too. Just come with me.”“You’re drunk, Chris. Go back home.”~~~~~~The way he keeps saying ‘you are mine’ taking possession of me at free will. I can't be with a person like him.But…..I touched my lips where Caius had kissed me. “Watch out!” I suddenly shouted, pushing him aside. But I wasn’t quick enough to move away myself— the rod struck my head hard. Pain exploded, and everything went black as I collapsed to the ground. Caius’s growl shook the air. Whatever alcohol was left in Chris’s system seemed to burn away instantly when he realized I had taken the hit meant for Caius. But Caius had no time to deal with him. He scooped me up and carried me swiftly to his vehicle, his eyes flashing dangerously at Chris before driving off. The car engine roared as Caius sped toward the hospital. Blood dripped steadily from the cut on my head. The moment we arrived, I was wheeled into a VIP ward. Nurses rush
Chapter 124Director Caius grabbed my hand, pulling me behind him as we ran through the crowd. We pushed past the playground until we reached an empty area where no people were in sight. Both of us stopped, panting hard.Caius glanced around cautiously, then pushed me behind him.“Stay close to me,” he muttered. The park lights barely reached this part of the grounds. Shadows stretched long and heavy, making it hard to see, but I heard snarling sounds circling us.Caius rolled up his sleeves. In a blur, he moved, fast, precise, deadly. Snarls turned into whimpers, followed by heavy thuds against the ground. One of them nearly got to me, but Caius appeared in an instant, snapping its neck before it could even touch me.That was when I saw someone lingering in the corner. I looked back, Caius was still busy with Darius’s wolves. Without thinking, I ran toward the figure. He caught my hand and quickly pulled me away.We stopped far from Caius.“What are you doing here?” I whispered sharp
Chapter 123Selene’s POVI didn’t go to work for an entire week. Grandma had back-to-back checkups, and I had to stay with her through all of them.Director Caius showed up at our door unexpectedly. He wanted to thank Grandma, then politely asked for her permission to let me help him.Grandma didn’t hesitate before throwing me out with him.I scoffed under my breath. She’s really petty. My stomach growled.Grandma even handed him food, dished mine as well, then slammed the door in my face, saying I wasn’t allowed back inside until sunset.I gasped in disbelief. And now here I was, stuck with this handsome wolf, who thought he was being subtle but kept stealing glances at me like I wouldn’t notice.I helped him fold his clothes, though it drained the last bit of energy from me.Later, I set out the food on the dining table when the doorbell rang.“I think you have a visitor,” I said, starting toward the door. But he beat me to it. “Just dish out the food, I’ll handle it.”I nodded and
Chapter 122Chris stood in front of Aria, his chest heaving.“You made it up? Everything?”“Chris, what do you mean?” Aria feigned innocence, sitting at her table with a cup of drink in hand.“This.” Chris tossed his cell phone toward her.He turned his back, running a hand over his head in frustration.“I know nothing about this,” she said lightly, pushing the phone aside with a smile.Chris’s fingers clenched.“Besides,” Aria added with a smirk, “you can kiss marrying me goodbye. You failed to do one simple thing.”Chris stood frozen, staring at her. She rose from her chair and moved to the balcony, gripping the railings as she looked down below.“That picture…” Chris’s voice shook as he drew in a deep breath. “It was you who sent it. You tried to endanger Selene’s life, and you’re still standing here arguing.”Aria spun around, forced anger twisting her face.“What exactly is it about Selene? You’re always with her, always smiling around her!” she shouted.“I gave you more, Aria,”
Chapter 121Tears fell freely from my eyes as I stood up, breathing hard.“I never asked you to sacrifice your marriage for me. But I won’t sit here and let you talk to me like that.” My body trembled as I spoke.“I thought… I thought with time I could understand you. I agreed to be by your side even though I was never the one you chose, but every damn time, I’m the one who ends up hurt.” Tears streamed down my face as my voice cracked.Chris just stared at me.“I only came to the hotel with Director Caius for the same party that brought you and Aria. Why don’t you ask her? She was also at the party. My drink was spiked—you can figure out the rest.” My voice shook with anger and betrayal as I grabbed my bag and walked out of the bar.He didn’t stop me or run after me.I hailed a taxi and got off at a nearby park. It wasn’t crowded, and I found a quiet corner where I collapsed onto a bench and cried my heart out.Everything felt so foolish. How I kept believing… kept hoping Chris would
