I woke to an empty bed and the sound of stone grinding against stone.

The master chamber felt wrong. The heavy velvet curtains had shifted positions overnight, and one entire wall had moved inward, narrowing the room like a closing throat. My body was sticky with the remnants of last night’s claiming Silas’s seed drying on my stomach, Rook’s bite throbbing on my shoulder, Wren’s scent still thick in my lungs. The bond pulsed with distant worry, but it felt muffled.

“Silas?” I called, voice hoar

"Something is wrong with them."Lyra's voice was low, urgent. She was standing at the edge of the main hall, her eyes fixed on the refugees who had arrived just hours before. They were huddled together in small groups, their bodies pressed close, their faces pale with exhaustion."What do you mean?" I asked. "They're just tired. They've been through a lot.""No," she said. "It's more than that. Look at their eyes."I moved closer, trying to see what she was seeing. The refugees were staring at nothing, their gazes unfocused. Their lips were moving, but no sound was coming out. They were whispering to themselves, over and over again."What are they saying?" Wren asked, coming to stand beside us."I don't know," I said. "But I don't think it's good."I walked toward the nearest group, my heart pounding in my chest. An old woman looked up at me, her eyes wide with terror."Please," she whispered. "Please make it stop.""Make what stop?" I asked. "What's happening?""The voice," she said.

  • The cursed alpha's dirty secret    The Gathering of Souls

"They're coming."Elara's voice was calm, but I could hear the undercurrent of fear. She was standing at the entrance of Sanctuary, her small hand pressed against the doorframe. I moved to stand beside her, my heart pounding in my chest."Who's coming?" I asked. "How do you know?""The walls told me," she said. "They showed me. People are walking toward us. Dozens of them.""How far away are they?" Lyra asked, rushing to join us."Not far," Elara said. "Maybe an hour. Maybe less.""We need to prepare," Silas said. "We need to be ready for whatever they bring with them.""What do you think they're bringing?" Tessa asked. "Are they running from the quiet?""Yes," Elara said. "I can feel their fear. It's coming off them like waves.""Then we need to show them they're safe," I said. "We need to show them they're not alone."We gathered in the center of Sanctuary, forming the circle. The warmth surged, filling the space around us. The walls hummed with our connection, ready to receive anyo

  • The cursed alpha's dirty secret    The Heartbeat of Sanctuary

"The walls are singing."Elara's voice was filled with wonder. She was standing in the center of Sanctuary, her arms outstretched, her face lifted toward the ceiling. I listened and I heard it. A low hum, barely audible, but unmistakable. The walls were vibrating with sound."What are they singing?" Lyra asked. "Can you understand it?""I think so," Elara said. "It's the same song. The song the last keeper taught us. But it's different now. It's deeper. Richer."I moved to stand beside her, pressing my hand against the wall. The warmth surged through me, and I felt the song in my bones. It was beautiful and sad and full of hope."The walls are alive," I said. "They're growing. Learning. Becoming something more.""How is that possible?" Tessa asked. "They're just stone.""They were built with the circle," I said. "With our warmth. Our connection. They're a part of us now.""And they're growing," Wren said. "They're expanding."She was right. The walls were shifting, extending outward.

  • The cursed alpha's dirty secret    The Gift That Changed Everything

"The walls are breathing."Elara's voice was soft, uncertain. She was standing by the stone wall of Sanctuary, her small hand pressed against the surface. I moved to stand beside her, my heart pounding."What do you mean, breathing?" I asked."Feel it," she said. "The stone is moving. Like it's alive."I pressed my hand against the wall and felt it. A faint pulse, rhythmic and steady. The warmth in my chest responded, pulsing in time with the stone."She's right," I said. "The wall is alive.""How is that possible?" Lyra asked, rushing over. "Walls don't breathe.""These walls do," I said. "They were built with the circle. With our warmth. They're connected to us.""So the walls are part of us now?" Tessa asked. "Part of the circle?""Yes," I said. "And that means something is changing.""What kind of change?" Silas asked.I didn't have an answer. I could feel the warmth spreading through the walls, through the floor, through every stone we had laid. Sanctuary was becoming something m

  • The cursed alpha's dirty secret    The Shadow That Breathes

"Elara is gone."The words hit me like a physical blow. I spun around, my heart pounding, to find Wren standing in the doorway, her face pale with terror."What do you mean she's gone?" I demanded. "She was just here. She was sleeping by the fire.""I know," Wren said. "I was watching her. I blinked, and she was just... gone.""No," Lyra said, pushing past us. "No, not her. Not after everything she's been through."We searched every corner of Sanctuary, every room, every shadow. But Elara was nowhere to be found. It was like she had vanished into thin air."She can't have just disappeared," Tessa said. "Someone must have taken her.""Or something," Silas said darkly.I felt the warmth in my chest flicker, a warning I couldn't ignore. The quiet was behind this. It had taken her."Where would it take her?" Lyra asked. "Where would it go?""The forest," I said. "Somewhere dark. Somewhere it can hide."We moved through the trees, the warmth of the circle guiding us. The darkness pressed i

  • The cursed alpha's dirty secret    The Child in the Dark

"There's someone outside."The words came from a young villager, a boy of maybe twelve. He was standing by the door, his face pressed against the crack, his voice trembling."Who is it?" I asked, moving toward him."I don't know," he said. "But I think they need help."I pushed open the door and stepped out into the darkness. The quiet was there, pressing in from all sides, but the warmth of Sanctuary held it at bay.And then I saw her.A child. No older than six or seven, her clothes torn and dirty, her face pale with cold. She was curled up at the base of the wall, her body shaking with sobs."Please," she whispered. "Please don't hurt me."I knelt down, keeping my distance. "We're not going to hurt you. We're here to help you.""I don't believe you," she said. "Everyone hurts me. Everyone leaves me."The warmth in my chest pulsed, reaching out toward her. She wasn't like the villagers we had saved. She was different. More broken."Where are your parents?" I asked. "Are you here alo

They sold me like I was already dead. Rook stayed glued to my side the whole way back, his hand heavy on my lower back like he was afraid I would vanish.
