Everything happened too fast after I completed the sentence, one minute I was staring at the back of Damien's head, and the next minute I was pinned against the wall. His face was so close to me that I could feel his minty breath, "You can try to run but I will always catch you, you can try to hide but I will always find you. Get one thing clear, Nora, no matter what road you take it will always lead you to me." I licked my lips unable to utter any word. His thick eyelashes fell on my lips and my heartbeat sped up instantly. "Are you scared of me, Nora?" the corner of his lips curled up giving me a full blown smirk. I gulped, "No," the word came out weak between my shallow breaths. I tried to keep my face stoic even though my nerves were no longer in my control. I shut my eyes tightly as his face inched forward. I inhaled a sharp breath feeling his soft lips on my ear, "Then why is your heart beating so loudly?" ......................................................................... View MoreOnly 30 minutes to go.
I stared at the clock suppressing a yawn, just like I had been doing for the last ten minutes.
Chemistry was never my cup of tea and especially when I had to learn about it at the end of the day.
I looked around, everyone was busy in their own world, gossiping, doodling, taking notes, or staring at their books, I turned my gaze towards the sky, looking at the clouds how they were floating aimlessly in the wide blue sky.
It was until I heard a whisper, "Eleanor."
I turned my head towards the left to look at the source of the voice, "What?" I asked in a whisper.
"Are you coming to the party tonight?" my lab partner, Anna asked, her green eyes shining with excitement.
I was never a fan of parties, I enjoyed the silence and the company of my books. But Anna was a whole different story, ever since I got to know her, she was always talking about going to the party, the only problem was that she rarely got invited to one. I could understand the reason for her excitement but that's not how I planned to spend my weekend. I could not take the risk of getting bad grades, it was the final year and my chance of getting away from everyone. I had everything planned for my perfect life.
I gave her a small smile, "I am sorry, Anna. I can't, it is supposed to be family weekend."
She scoffed, "Your family weekend must mean spending time in some luxurious place," she whispered writing chemical reactions in her notebook.
Ignoring her comment, I looked towards my nearly empty notebook, making small animals on the corner to pass the remaining time.
I was not exactly popular in the school but I was not invisible as well. People knew me, or rather they knew my parents. My family was one of the oldest families in the town, they were known by everyone, they were respected by everyone.
I preferred being invisible.
Finally, the bell rang pulling me out of my thoughts, and I picked up my bag not wasting another minute. I could hear the footsteps of Anna behind me, but I increased my speed.
.
.
Opening the door, I was welcomed by the silence. The silence and the emptiness were not new feelings for me, it was something I got used to with time.
"Eleanor, would you like to eat something?" asked Olivia with a smile on her face, wrinkles forming around the corner of her eyes as she smiled at me.
She stood in the living room, hair tucked neatly in a low bun.
"No thank you, I am not hungry," I gave her a smile and walked towards my room.
I plopped on the bed that was in the middle of my lavender room and closed my eyes, wind chimes ringing softly on the window. A faint tinge of purple spreading in the room from the light passing through the curtains.
I enjoyed the silence with the company of my thoughts, it was until the ringing of my phone pierced through the room.
It was Faith, my sister.
"Hey baby sis," came her loud voice from the other end.
"That's a surprise, getting a call from my lovely sister at weekend."
There was silence from her side for a while, "I am sorry, El. I know I was supposed to be there but you know..."
"Yeah, you got some work at the last time," I replied before she could complete her sentence.
"Mom and dad will come back next week," she tried to change the subject, which did not help at all.
Mom and dad were vising Faith, they wanted to see if she was doing okay at her new work.
"Okay, cool," I gave a curt reply, not in the mood to continue the conversation.
"El..."
"Faith, I am tired right now. I will talk to you later," with that I disconnected the call.
Faith was the perfect daughter my parents always wished for, she was smart, she was beautiful, she was the perfect lady my mother raised her to be. Everyone liked her, when she was around every eye would be on her, she had a charm, she knew how to talk to people in the proper way. I, on the other hand, always became a nervous mess whenever I was around too many people. It was one of the reasons I always avoided the fancy parties, Faith kept rambling about.
I opened my laptop and started working on the assignment that was due in 4 days.
Faith and I were close as kids, she was my best friend but everything changed once she turned fifteen, our parents one day announced she would live with our grandmother. It was not easy for either of us, but we knew better than to argue with our parents.
They had rules, the rules we had to follow, never talk back, always maintain the family's reputation, and do not bring friends in the house.
After working for almost two hours, the growling of my stomach reminded me that I hadn't eaten anything.
Making my way to the kitchen, I took the food out on the plate and walked to the dining room that had ten chairs around the table, I took a seat on the corner and started eating my food slowly.
With a sigh, I put the empty plate in the kitchen and instead of walking to my room made my way towards the front door.
The moon was shining brightly in the dark, illuminating everything with its light, there was a faint glow everywhere.
My feet started moving in a random direction, I kept walking for almost 15 minutes, enjoying the feeling of the light breeze on my face.
I stopped walking when I realized I was standing in front of a park, it was the same park where I used to play as a child. Walking towards the swing I sat there, gazing at the moon with a smile playing on my lips.
I sat there without the knowledge of time, that was until I heard shuffling from the dark corner.
Some bushes of rose were visible under the faint light of the moon, but there was something or rather someone else there. A silhouette of a man was there beside the bushes.
My heart started beating like a hummingbird's heart when my eyes fell on the sharp glowing blue eyes of the man.
Unable to move I froze in my position, he stood there watching, without blinking his eyes. Finally, I gathered my courage and ran, I ran with everything I had until I saw my home.
Quickly I locked the door, closed all the windows while still gasping for air. When I was sure everything was locked I sat on the couch of the living room taking deep breaths to calm my nerves.
"Are you okay?"
With a scream, I looked at Olivia. she was looking at me with concern on her face.
I shook my head giving her a small smile, "Yes, I was just outside and saw a cat."
She nodded and passed me a glass of water, I took it mumbling a thank you.
"You should not go out at this hour," she said sternly, "especially today, it is a special moon."
I put the glass back on the table and stared at her with a frown, "What are you talking about grandma?"
Olivia took care of Faith and me ever since we were born, we started calling her grandma after that.
"It is the blue moon, El. Creatures of the night roam freely tonight, it is their night. Some worship moon tonight, while others look for finding their missing pieces."
I sat there listening to her words carefully, grandma always used to tell us stories. As kids we loved listening to her stories, we would finish our homework to hear those stories she used to tell.
Then as we grew older we started realizing those were just stories, like the fairytales where the princess meets her prince charming in the end, but the real-life was far away from a fairytale.
"Go to sleep, it is late," she chuckled.
"Good night, grandma."
I shut the curtains tightly, giving one last look to the moon. It was just another story of grandma, I repeated in my head.
Maybe I imagined everything, I closed my eyes with a sigh.
It must be the light playing tricks with my brain, I tried to reassure myself.
Two weeks had passed. The icy walls of the palace had witnessed the gruesome sight of the murder of the King, Queen of the werewolf kingdom by Lilith and so many other wolves who were murdered by her to achieve the goal. I could not say everything went back to normal because the truth was far away from it. Damien was with me but he was not the same after losing his family. He did not only lose his father that day but his mother too, even though Lilith did not feel the same Damien always loved her like his real mother. Lilith was still in the cells, she would not say anything and would barely eat the food, there was regret in her eyes but it was not for her actions it was for her son. Luca was a whole other story, he was alive only because the dagger did not pierce through his heart but he was unconscious and not healing like he normally should. He survived thanks to the Alpha of the crescent pack, he had some contact with the witches who were ki
"Someone help, GUARDS," I screamed from the top of my lungs but the defeating silence was the only response I got as I ran towards the doorway of the left wing.I stopped running when I caught the horrific sight of guards on the floor with blood pooling around their bodies. There were no other guards in the entire hallway. I had a feeling there were no guards in the palace, if there were, they should have been here by now.I had to reach the main door and warn the guards outside but the time was not on my side, Lilith must be almost healed by now."There she is," a large man screamed running in my way with a wicked smile on his lips.I started running but it was of no use as the man shifted into a sandy wolf midway. I was thrown to the ground, there was nothing I could use to defend myself. Just when I thought my end was near a vicious growl fell into my ears and the sandy wolf turned towards the sound but it was too late for him. A large blac
Pairs of eyes kept looking at me as I passed the familiar hallway but none of them uttered a word. It was evident in their eyes they wanted to say something but the fear was making them stay silent.I bit the inside of my cheeks and continued walking, barely keeping my excitement to see Damien. I did not know how he would react but it was time for him to know everything....everything about the person who killed his mother. The person who was living with them and waiting to stab them. Two guards were standing at the entrance of the left-wing but other than them no one was there. Damien did not like people entering his personal space and the guards earlier were for my protection when he was not in the palace.I opened the door of the bedroom where the scent of Damien welcomed me. I smiled looking at the flames burning in the fireplace and the chair in front of it.Damien was in the room."Damien, I know this must be a surprise
I loosened my hold on the dagger when the man fell on the ground and Amber was standing behind him with a smirk. She took a large step and extended her hand in my direction. I looked at her hand skeptically and dragged my eyes towards the man on the ground. There were no signs of injury on his body but he was not moving at all."Is he..""Yep," she did not let me complete the sentence."But how..""Burrowed a little gift from your sister," she answered taking her hand away when I stood up without her help."What did you do? If anything happened to my sister..." I pointed my index finger at her.She rolled her eyes, "Relax, I have no interest in getting my nails dirty with the hunter's blood.""What are you doing here?" I kept an eye on my surroundings not trusting Amber. If she was here, it meant trouble was around as well."In case you failed to notice, I saved your life," she ended the sen
"So, you have lived there for months," Faith turned her index finger towards Ruhee, "and you, for almost your whole life." "Well, not exactly my whole life but go on." "And yet, none of you know any damn numbers to contact them?" Faith squinted her eyes as she looked between both of us. We were sitting in the airport and Faith was keeping her word to accompany us to the palace. "I didn't have a phone and I have a goldfish memory when it comes to numbers," I defended myself. "I never had anyone to call," Ruhee lifted her right shoulder casually, "I was living in the palace or the mansion, and whenever they needed me to do some work I was there." Ruhee said every word without any emotion. Faith glanced at me and I shook my head slightly, giving her a hint to not continue the conversation. I did not want Faith to ask something that might hurt Ruhee's feelings. "What are you doing?" I tried to peek into Faith's ph
"You little...""Father, enough...I am ashamed to call you my father. How could you murder a child?" mom yelled furiously. It was the first time I saw her raising her voice at anyone."No. It is all her doing," he pointed his finger at me, "she is on their side, she is working for the filthy creatures. It is their plan. they want to destroy us."Grandpa was trying to make everyone believe his words, his voice held urgency as he stared at everyone begging with his eyes to believe in him."It is not about sides. I just don't want innocents to die....innocents like Adam. The fight between the hunters and werewolves was over ten years ago and you are just trying to start it again. They are not bad people, they have suffered the loss too," but my words meant nothing to him. There was only hatred in his eyes as he looked at me.I inhaled a long breath, "I have lived with them, if they were bad I would be dead a long time ago but those people did everythi
I knocked on the door and waited for the response while holding my breath."Eleanor, what a lovely surprise," grandpa said in his gruff voice with no sign of emotions on his face.I gave him a tight smile."Are you here to apologize for your barbaric behavior?"I bit my tongue to stop myself from giving him a remark that would not be good for my plan."I am sorry for my behavior, grandpa."I tried to make the words believable but from his squinted eyes I had a feeling I was not much successful."Very well, if you don't mind I am in a hurry."He closed the door and started taking quick steps.I didn't stop him and continued following him, "I know I have made you very upset in the last few days but I want to make up for that.""You are wrong my child, it is not the last few days it is the last few years."I rolled my eyes but kept walking knowing very well where he wa
"What happened there?""They kept on asking me questions about your soul mate," Ruhee said in her soothing voice, "and I kept on changing the topic.""They didn't hurt you, right?" I asked with worry. I did not want her to suffer more because of my family.Ruhee shook her head with a smile, "Your mother was there the entire time and she did not let them take any extreme measures. In fact, she was not happy with their decision at all."I bit the inside of my cheeks."Get some sleep."I stood up and left the room silently. Ruhee probably did not get the chance to sleep and needed some rest.I did not get much far before Faith stopped me, "El...""Save it," I continued walking."That is not a very nice way to behave with your sister," a gruff voice made me stop.I turned towards grandpa with a frown, "I was not trying to be nice."The corner of his already down lips turned f
The sharp ray of the sun entered through the window, hitting me directly on the face. I opened my eyes slowly and looked around the room in a daze. With a yawn, I stretched my arms getting out of the bed.I rubbed my eyes as I tried to get rid of the sleep after staring at the blank purple wall of my room. But as soon as I remembered about last night my eyes opened wide forgetting everything about sleep.Faith...ice cream."Faith!!" I yelled opening the door of my room not caring if anyone was sleeping or doing some work.I banged my fists on the door of her bedroom, "FAITH OPEN THE DOOR!!"I kept slamming my fist on the door until I heard the sound of footsteps."What is your problem at 7 in the morning?" Faith asked with her eyes closed halfway."What did you do?" I ignored her question."What?""Oh, stop that. I know you added something into my ice cream yesterday when I was
