Chapter 17
The air around me was tense as I stood close to Grayson, his arm was wrapped around me protectively. My brothers took a step forward and I heard low growls come from Grayson's men as they stood behind Blake and Karter.
My eyes shot towards Grayson's hand as he began to lift it, his palm was outstretched as if to halt his men. His eyes were still emotionless as he opened his mouth... I took a deep breath, unsure of what was about to happen.
"Thank you for bringing Laila home, and for protecting her". Though Grayson was as unreadable as a concrete wall, his voice held sincerity and gratitude.
"We will always protect our sister, whether she's mated to you or not. Though, I'm curious as to why this happened in the first place?", Karter said gruffly. "Aren't you supposed to be the most feared Alpha of all? You can't even handle a little rogue issue without having your mate suffer the blows".

When I awoke the next morning, Grayson had already left for the day. I rolled over to snuggle with his pillow and inhaled his intoxicating scent as it danced around me. My mind was still reeling from the events of the past couple of days... Had my father and Grayson really spoken face to face? Last night felt like a dream, to see my family and Grayson together and maintain a somewhat civil manner was bewildering. Not only that, but they agreed to work together to protect me!As I adjusted my eyes to the light that was slowly creeping its way into my room, I searched through my mind for Grayson. I was just about to wish him a good morning when Brynn raced into the room jumped onto the bed."HEY SISTER, SISTER!", she yelled as she bounced up and down before reaching for me to join her. Before the sun had the chance to rise and wake me with its bright welcome, I was already up and dressed. For once I was awake before Grayson, I had to sneak away from his warm embrace, his arms tightened around me as I wriggled, and I almost had to fight my own urges to stay. But, after last nights positive meeting I was filled with a new sense of hope and energy, and Amara was begging to be let out once again.I slipped on a jumper and a pair of running shoes before exiting out the front door quietly. I breathed in the fresh, natural air and let my feet carry me rather than overthink things like I usually do. Three weeks had passed since my family and Grayson had agreed to work together. Once a week my dad and Grayson would meet at the territory line and report back any suspicious activity or sightings. Since the Dark Moon pack and the Crescent pack were both on the lookout, there had been no sightings of Kirk or any other rogues/unfamiliar wolves for that matter, not even a whiff of a scent.The attacks on the packs, including Slades, had ceased. Rather than assault or murder our people, the attackers have been vandalising and leaving messages spray-painted into buildings. The messages were more or less the same each time, "We're coming for you mutts", "Tick-Tock, you're about to get shot", and so on. "TIME TO GO BISH!".I turned to find Brynn standing on top of the breakfast table. She was wearing a neon green bikini and the largest pair of sunglasses I had ever seen.I burst out in laughter as she stuck a pose, her hands were on her hips and she was pulling a duckface while gyrating her lower body to a tune only she could hear. It was times like these that Brynn reminded me of Marnie. I had a feeling they would get along all too well, and I made a mental note to ask Beta Luke, Marnie's mate, to bring her along to the next border meeting."Alright, just give me 10 more minutes to finish packing our picnic and checking that I have some sunscreen", I giggled breathlessly.Brynn had grown tired of being confined to the town or the cabin she and Grayson's mother lived in further north.
