LOGINChapter 2
Solene's pov.
“Get yourself together child.” Mom said through clenched teeth close to my ear.
I blinked rapidly into reality, this was real, mom actually married Alfred Campbell, and Noah, my extremely good looking bully, has become my stepbrother.
This is going to be a nightmare for me.
“I'm sorry.” I forced a smile at Alfred who seems to be a nice man.
“No worries dear, I'm sure this comes as a shock to the both of you.” Alfred continued.
It was more than a shock, earlier, I thought I waltzed into an alternate universe where I was actual siblings with Noah Campbell.
“Your mother and I chose to keep our relationship secret, I didn't tell Noah until this morning, although he didn't know who exactly.”
“Yeah.” I muttered,
That was the only word I could think of as I avoided Noah's gaze.
Noah had not said a single word since he came down, he must be in equal shock as I am.
Mom hooked her hand into Alfred's, ignoring us kids.
“What do you have planned for my first day?” She squealed like a sixteen year old.
Right, her first day, not even us. I shouldn't expect less from her.
“Dinner together as a family, that would be great.”
Noah mumbled incoherently,
“Don't start, Noah, I want this dinner to be peaceful.” Alfred said to Noah.
Glad to know things aren't awkward for just me.
I made to go get my things from the car, but mom stopped me.
“Where do you think you're going?” Her voice froze me.
I pointed at the entrance as if that would explain it all.
She rolled her eyes,
“We're Campbell's now, I expect you to act like one, not that your dad thought you any better, but they have maids for things like this. Quit embarrassing me and join the table.”
I followed quietly behind her and joined the Campbells at their huge dining table topped with luxurious dishes.
Maybe mum forgot, or she chose to be ignorant, but she's the only one taking the Campbell name, I'm still stuck with Greasely as a last name.
Which I don't mind at all.
“Solene.” Alfred called, stressing the last syllable of my name.
I answered him with a raised face.
“I hear that you're the best student in Brooklyn high, that's grand and will lead to great opportunities for ivy schools.”
I flushed, mom must have told him that to make herself feel good.
“I'm just doing my best.”
Mom chuckled.
“When you aren't rich, you have to make up for it with your brains right, I'm sure Noah does exceptionally well in school, being the school's hockey captain and all.”
“Spurt.”
I choked on my glass of juice.
Alfred burst into laughter.
If a mule would be considered smart, then Noah should be given an award for excellence then.
“Noah's a bird brain, he barely passes the raiders subjects, he can learn a thing or two from Solene, now that they are siblings.”
Alfred's comment made me look at Noah through the glass cup.
I cowered when he threw me his deadly stare.
No way that is ever happening, I want to graduate as peacefully as I can.
Noah slapped his cutlery on the table and stormed off angrily, leaving an awkward stillness behind.
Alfred seemed not to be bothered by his son's attitude, he must get that a lot.
While mom stared at me like it was all my fault.
I stood up as well,
“I will be in my room settling in.” I said to Alfred.
He smiled at me and I walked away.
A maid led me to my room, it was on the same floor as Noah's but at different ends.
I heard wild hip hop music blasting through the doors of his room.
This place was like a new world to me, I still can't believe my world just changed in an instant.
The cold shower did nothing to douse the heat that crept up my spine since I found out who my new family was.
I tied a towel around my chest and stepped out of the bathroom.
“My goodness.” I screamed with a hand to my chest.
Noah Campbell swiveled on the chair in front of the dresser.
“Chill, I've seen way better.” His eyes sized me up
I became conscious of the towel around my body, water dripped to the ground.
I've actually seen him with way curvier girls in school, I'm not in his league whatsoever, and so is he when it comes to brains.
“Get out of my room.” I screamed.
Noah scoffed arrogantly, still on the chair.
“Your room?, this is my house, you and your mother are the intruders here.”
I swallowed hard, I'm not welcome here and he doesn't need to shove it in my face.
“Please, leave.” My voice croaked.
My modesty was all I can think of right now.
Noah rose to his full height, towering over me like some kind of giant.
He took some steps closer, and I took some steps backwards.
Till my back touched the wall, his dreamy blue eyes rovered my body.
“I've got some warnings for you, first.” He flicked a finger.
“Don't act like we're siblings in school or I'll ruin you, second, do not, I repeat, do not expect anything from me just because we're siblings now.”
“I wouldn't even dream about it.” I snapped.
He smirked and tipped my chin upwards, our lips inches away as he breathed on me.
My eyes widened in anticipation of what he was about to do next.
I could hear the sound of my heart hitting against my chest,
My knees buckled as he pressed against my damp body.
“Don't push me Solene, or you'll regret it.”
Eyes flashed open to see him smiling wickedly, do I actually think he'd want to kiss me?.
He went out and slammed the door behind him.
‘get a hold of yourself Solene.’ I yanked my hair.
‘he’s your enemy.’
A hot dangerous one at that.
Noah's pov.My eyes rolled into my socket as he threw me a good punch. It hit under my nose hard, and it affected my full headFuck, this guy just looks soft on the outside, I never imagined he could handle his fists.I had come to the party on Vale's invitation, he had some plans about a friendly hockey game between our schools. The idea was to go all out, ruffle it up no matter what.Caroline had the flu, but she told me that I could attend I didn't want to leave her behind, especially as I knew that Solene would be at the party as well.We just came out of one hell of a fight recently, and I don't want us to fall back to it.She had cupped my cheeks in her hands.“Don't worry babe, I'm done with the jealous streak, you can even say hello to Solene for me.”That was more than surprising though.Solene still wouldn't talk to her, she said there were no hard feelings. She just doesn't want to be cozy around Caroline anymore.Part of it was my fault though.Since I keep talking about
Aaron's pov.Contrary to how my parents and lovely sister advised me to act towards Solene.I acted differently. When I received the invitation from Vale, the first thing that came to my mind was, this is an opportunity for me to fix things between us.Nothing was broken in the first place, I wouldn't say we were friends.Sometimes, she doesn't even treat me as a friend. Just someone she bumped into and had an encounter with.I immediately asked Vale if Solene was going to be there as well.“You bet she will, I'm sure she's looking forward to seeing you as well.”That was how I found myself, looking for the perfect outfit to wear for the party.I'm not really a party person, except on occasions like the corporate party that Alfred Campbell hosted.I am well acquainted with that type of party due to my family's involvement in several. When she opened the door, I just couldn't play along with what I had in mindA new version of me replaced the one that wanted to be in Solene's good grac
Solene's pov.People started filing into Vale's apartment when the sun was a place orange in the sky. Most of which were his hockey teammates from school and some of Anika's friends as well that came to grace the party. No one came from my side, I wouldn't actually count Aaron as he didn't get his invitation from me.Anika has dragged me to a corner in the kitchen when the number of guests had increased to about fifteen.Vale decided that it was time to start with some soft music to keep the party alive.Right before the heat would be tuned up.“So.” She screeched excitedly.“How did it go while we were away?” I rolled my eyes in annoyance, if only they knew how bored I was out of my mind.Aaron just busied himself with doing a couple of things on his phone, which I knew was boring To him, watching how penguins mate was more interesting than holding a conversation with me.“The worst decision you and Vale ever made was to leave me with him, shit didn't happen.”Her eyes became sombe
Solene's pov.I have only been with one person my entire life, maybe two. But I wouldn't really count what I had with Vale as some kind of relationship. So, it's difficult for me to understand how the minds of guys work.I already spoke to Susan Mathews and she clarified that Aaron had nothing to do with me getting the internship into her program.I decided to wait for an entire day before I called him.All day he didn't pick, and twice he sent it to voicemail.“What is he trying to do? Okay hard to get.” I asked and answered my own question.I was at Vale's place. Anika and I were helping him set up his apartment for his birthday party. He's the only friend I have and the only one I can rant to.Alfred would have been nice to have this kind of conversation with.Whatever he knows about my lovelife, would be related to Noah. The last thing I wanted was Noah butting into my love life.“Would you really blame the guy?” Vale said from the ladder he was on. He was arranging a fancy lime al
Mallory's pov.My mouth hung open in the biggest surprise as I listened to Barbara relay how uncle Alfred has helped her come up with plans before handIf I wasn't impressed, then I was bloody lying. Who knew she had it in her? “Wow, mom, you've completely and totally rendered me speechless right now. Are you for real?”She flung her hair back stylishly, her eyes glowed with so much excitement.I am so glad she took this bold step, I would have been cooked for real. She touched my face with the rip of her fingers.“You called me mom.” Tears were at the brim of her eyes.I shrugged my shoulders.“Well, you are my mom, what else was I supposed to call you?”The tears spilled out of her eyelids ceaselessly “You haven't called me mom in years.”Damn, who knew Barbara could be such a cry baby, she always held her head high like she didn't give a shit about anything.I realised I haven't given her a proper apology for the things I put her through.“I know the past years.”She put a hand t
Mallory's pov.I'm going to kill him, that stupid Dean, he used me.Made a fool of me, wasted my years of efforts and commitment on him.My elbow grazed the block when he threw me out.I packed my hair away from my face, fuck.No one in the neighborhood came out despite my cries and shouts. They are all so fucked up.I stood up and brushed the dirt off my body. The tears refused to come out of my eyes.It was lodged in my throat, in my chest.I was shattered beyond recognition, I can't believe this is actually happening to me.I let myself be used by a man, used, and torn apart like a piece of rag.My feet crunched something metallic as I made to leave.Staying in the same atmosphere as Dean was choking me more than the betrayal.I had to leave. On a closer look, it was the key to the car.I let out a puff of air from my lungs, it was draining to even breathe. So, this was the only thing I gotOh god. Barbara's going to make so much fun of me.She warned me, they all did.Noah, uncle
