Aria’s POV:

Liam stood there, dressed in casuals and also had glasses on… It made him look smart and soft; his hair was rough, and he looked so tired.

His lips curled to a smile before he leaned against the doorway. “Burgundy,” he muttered in an amused tone.

I cleared my throat; I didn’t come here to bond with him or entertain him.

“You owe me.” I didn’t expect this to be the first word to leave my mouth, but it was a great start. I didn’t want him to have the wrong impression that I had come here for another reason.

Liam chuckled and took off his reading glasses. “Come in.”

“No, once I have my money, then I will be on my way,” I explained. There was no need for me to go in; we had no relationship… We weren’t even friends.

“Come on in, Burgundy.”

I breathed heavily before walking in; he closed the door behind me and returned to the couch… There was an open book on the table.

And I couldn’t believe it; it was my book.

It was the first book I ever published, “My Hero in the Dark.”

A smile crept on my lips; he was reading my book, “Coffee?”

“Burgundy,” he called, pulling me out of my daydream.

I cleared my throat. “What?”

“Do you want coffee?”

“No…just my money.”

Liam nodded, picked up the book, and continued reading like I wasn’t here asking for my money.

Was he seriously going to pretend like he doesn’t owe me?

“Mr. Styles,” I stomped my foot on the ground; he kissed his teeth and dropped the book.

“How much do I owe?”

“Umm…1000…1900…1990,” I stuttered, trying to figure out the math…math wasn’t my favorite subject.

His gaze lingered on my face; it made me wonder if there was something on my face.

Liam stood up, walked to his mini kitchen, and filled a glass with water before walking back to me. “Drink.”

“I don’t want water.”

“But I want you to drink.” He had an amused look. Was I being funny right now?

I snatched the glass from him, almost spilling the water. “Will you send the money or not?”

He took a step closer; my toes curled as I took an equal one backward. “What…why are you coming close?”

Liam straightened out his hand; his finger brushed past my cheek, my chest heaved, and it was hard to look away.

“Did you miss me?” He asked, his voice low and magnetic, and the cells in my body knew the answer and were screaming yes…yes…yes.

“No,” I muttered; my voice was surprisingly very low.

“But I did; I missed you,” he blurted, and my eyes grew wide.

“You did?”

He held my hand, pulled me closer, and wrapped a hand around my waist. “Did you come here with the excuse of getting your balance?” He had a teasing look; I wriggled out of his hold and took a step backward before dropping the glass on the table.

“Did you think I was worth just $10?”

I realized he must think the worst about me. First, he thought I was fake, and then he assumed I was a slut by saying that night meant nothing to him, and then he sent me such an amount.

“Are you hungry?” He questioned, and I froze for a while. Why was he asking me that?

Without waiting for my response, he walked to his phone. “I will order something for us.”

“Will you choose to brush this topic under the bus as well because you think it will make me feel uncomfortable? I know what I am, Liam… I know I am not worth a dime,” I sniffed back my tears.

I am not worth

I was ruined years ago; every dignity was snatched from me, so I tend to settle for men who offer me the bare minimum, but somehow I thought Liam understood me. I felt like a book before him, and he could read me so easily.

Maybe he can; maybe it’s because he can read me so well that he chooses to treat me like trash because that’s what I was.

He craned his neck to the side. “Who are you?” he asked, every ounce of smile wiped from his face.

I shook my head in denial and sat on the chair opposite him before picking up the glass of water. I drank the entire content and stared anywhere else but at him.

There was silence; no one uttered a word.

But he didn’t look away; he was still staring at me and didn’t even try to look away.

“You are so pretty,” he muttered, and I bit my lip.

“You are a good liar,” I replied, and he chuckled.

“I have a friend, Nacho,” he started, and this caused me to raise a brow. Why was he telling me about his friend?

“His dad hates him; he hates the fact that Nacho didn’t live up to his expectations…he even threatened to disown his son.” Liam continued, “Nacho came up with a business idea; he told his dad he needed a loan to make his business work…so his dad gave in.”

Liam chuckled. “Nacho donated the money to charity and didn’t start a business; his dad did disown him, but he still calls Nacho every day to ask for his money.”

“Okay, what are you on about?” I chimed in with a confused look. Why was he suddenly telling me about Nacho and his dad?

“You needed an excuse to always show up in my life, so I gave you one,” he said.

Huh? Did he just say that?

What made him believe I wanted to continue showing up in his life? I didn’t.

“So no, I will never pay up. Because I want you to continue showing up for your money.”

Aria’s POV:It was extremely hard trying to lie to yourself, but it was even harder to make a stranger feel you can’t do without him.Right now, Liam was just another stranger in my life… someone I meet during one of my tough times, and we don’t bond, we don’t argue… We just go our separate ways.“I have no idea what you are talking about.” I cleared my throat and tried to switch the topic. “You said I was fake, so why read my book?”Liam picked up the book. “This is the only one I find interesting,” he stated, and it made no sense; I wrote that book years ago when I thought it was fun.I had no plans of publishing; all I wanted was to write a story and to appreciate the hero who showed up in my life during my darkest moments. It didn’t make much sense. “Okay. It seems you have no interest in paying up, so I will leave.”He nodded, his gaze on the book. He was back to his reading while I was still present; this was my cue to leave.I stood up and spotted his box of unpacked stuff. “Do

Aria’s POV:I leaned closer to Sam and watched the video she was watching; it was just one of Liam walking out of court… He didn’t even say anything to the press.“Liar,” I scoffed. For a moment I thought he was really coming back to America.“I am not, okay? He didn’t say it directly to the press, but he posted it.”I rolled my eyes. “He doesn’t have an account.”I had searched everywhere but couldn’t find his account, so I figured he must not be a fan of the internet.“He has.” Sam scrolled on her phone before shoving it in my face.It was a Twitter account; the profile photo was Liam’s, but the name was not anything related to Liam Styles. It was Mr. Consegnare. In his latest post, he tweeted, “Going home for a break, no more cases.”He was coming back. Our path could cross again.Wait.“Umm…What if he meant home as in his home in Italy?” I questioned, and Sam laughed.“Why are you so interested in this man?” Ava asked in disbelief, and I pouted. Was it wrong to ask a question?“Do

Aria’s POV:Mother walked and sat next to me before she rubbed my back. “You know how upset your father gets at times, so stop crying, okay?”I nodded and cleaned my tears.Caleb stood up and scanned the sitting room; I noticed his eyes grow sore, but I didn’t want to be affected by it, so I looked away.“Umm…I will leave now,” he said. Neither Mother nor Gigi answered as he found his way out of the house, and I pulled my hair and stomped my foot on the ground.“I don’t want to move in, Mother.” Why was Father asking me to move in? I didn’t want to live with no freedom anymore, a life where he controls when I go out and when I come in.I didn’t want that.“What’s so wrong with moving in? You got divorced, and instead of coming back home, you chose to stay there alone,” Mother scolded with a frown. “If you think your family isn’t important and you don’t need us, then feel free to leave. It’s not like we could hold you back,” she scoffed and left. Now I had pissed off even Mother. My fa

Aria’s POV:I nudged at Mother, who shook her head and signaled I eat quietly. “Just come in and eat already,” I said with a loud tone, and Caleb nodded. He walked in and bowed slightly. “Good day, Father, Mother…Gigi,” he greeted, but Gigi scoffed loudly.Caleb pulled the chair next to me, and Mother pushed a plate towards him; she didn’t want to talk to him, but after all, she was a mother. We ate silently till we were done. I helped Mother clean the table, and now we were in the kitchen with Gigi, and I was drying the dishes.“I don’t understand why your father invited him over,” Mother said with an irritated tone as she passed the plate for me to dry.“This time around he really crossed a line.” She smacked her lips, and Gigi sighed.“Divorce isn’t a joke; the kids had gone too far,” Gigi muttered while staring at me, and I pouted. I didn’t go far. That was the best solution to this relationship.“Aria,” Father called, and I almost dropped what I was holding.I turned to Mother, w

  • The illusion Of Happily Ever After   Love Never Dies

Aria’s POV:One…two…threeIt was three days since I went my separate way with Liam; he dropped me at my place and drove off, and I am sure he must be in Italy right now.I was getting dressed to have dinner with my parents; Father was back and wanted to see me. I knew I had a long night, as it won’t be easy trying to explain things to Father. After staring at my reflection in the mirror, I brushed my hand through my hair… He said it was pretty, but maybe he is just a liar.I pulled my drawer and took out the scissors, gathered my hair in my hand, and was about to cut it, but it was hard.My hands trembled as the scissors fell off.RingMy ringing phone brought me out of my trance. I checked the caller, and it was Caleb.“What?” I scolded once the call got connected.“Umm…sorry,” he apologized, and I sighed heavily; I was just in a bad mood.“Why are you calling Caleb?”“Father called me; he asked I pick you up on my way.”My brows furrowed. Which father? Did his parents finally return
