*Amber*

Adis waits for me to finish my shift at the club and then drives me home on the back of his bike. I press myself against his back, not out of fear anymore, but because I enjoy the feeling of his body against mine.

When we reach the apartment, he pulls me into his arms in the hallway, and I expect a goodnight kiss as usual. But he kisses me with such burning desire that I don’t resist when he gently pulls me into his room.

Every touch and every kiss leaves a blazing fire within me, creating an overwhelming urge for more. More of him. I desperately tug at his clothes, craving the warmth of his skin, wanting to be as close as possible.

My hands glide over his naked body as he nibbles and kisses my neck. He is all sinewy muscles and long, strong limbs, and I find him incredibly sexy.

"Are you okay?" he asks softly, knowing I have no experience aside from what my father and uncle forced upon me.

I nod and run my hand up to cup his cheek. "I am more than okay, Adis."

  • The lost packs   Date of war

*Amber* Adis gathers us all in what he refers to as the command room at the school. He appoints Hope to oversee this space, along with a few other active young members who, while eager, are too young to engage directly in the conflict. In recent weeks, I haven't seen much of Adis; he has been preoccupied with preparing the bases and formulating plans. Now, he stands before us, embodying the Alpha he once was… the Alpha who had been nearly consumed by grief but has emerged resilient. "From here, everything will be monitored," he explains, his voice steady and authoritative. "All active members will be divided into groups of twenty-five. They will sleep, eat, and fight together. Kress, Tjeck, and I have mixed our members to ensure that all packs are represented within each group. Everyone must accept that any of us can lead them and issue orders. Everyone present here is given the title of captain. You will each take charge of a group as needed. Prepare yourselves; sleep and food wi

  • The lost packs   Keeping guard

*Amber* Everywhere I look, I see preparations for war. The training facilities at Tjeck and Kress are being used much more than usual, and people keep helping and correcting each other, seeking their friends' advice. The safety protocols with The Eagles and The Stars have been heightened, and food and weapons are stored at both locations. These will be our bases during the war, and every member of The Shadows will move to one of them, where they can be easily protected and the enemy kept out. To my surprise, many people start asking for my advice. They stop me on the street, especially seeking tips on hand-to-hand combat. The worst part is that I can't really answer them. I can't pinpoint what made me win against Thorn, except that I managed to lock away the pain and ignore it, and that I refuse to give in, no matter how dire things look. I actually enjoy fighting instead of fearing it. Adis still fears that Clay will show up in the middle of the night to take revenge, s

  • The lost packs   Did he throw the fight?

*Tjeck* Adis grabs me while Thorn and Amber say their goodbyes. I have a clear idea of what Thorn whispers in her ear, and I empathize with him. "I don't know whether to thank you or hate you," Adis says, looking at Amber and Thorn. "Seeing her like that... I can't believe he dared to do it." "He did what he had to do to elevate her position," I reply. "Amber is strong; she just needs the right push. We are going to war for her; they need to know that she will be fighting right alongside them." "You can't honestly think I'm going to let her participate actively in the war?" Adis shoots me a terrified glare. "You can't keep her out of it. She is going to insist on participating," I tell him. "She is a warrior, Adis, just like you and me." "I’m not going to tell her. I’ll find a way to make sure she stays inside one of our secure bases." The pain in his eyes reveals the reason behind this. He has lost once; he can’t bear to go through it again. "Just be careful you don't ho

  • The lost packs   Amber vs. Thorn

*Tjeck* Adis isn’t happy about Thorn’s challenge; his tense stance makes that clear. However, by accepting the challenge, Amber earns a lot of respect. “Stop it, Adis.” I pull his fingers from his mouth. There’s no reason for him to bite his nails over this. “They’ve faced each other in the ring several times. Why is it suddenly a problem?” “It’s always different on fight nights,” Adis mumbles. “You just give that extra little nudge. He just kicked your ass for the Goddess’ sake.” “Yeah, it would seem so. We had to go full out.” I explain. “Everyone had to see Thorn as ruthless and brutal, like he would do anything to win.” Adis’s fingers find their way back to his mouth just as Amber strikes at Thorn, who easily blocks her. When Thorn and I faced each other, we both got through an equal number of strikes, and we excel at breaking through each other’s defenses. But with Thorn and Amber, it’s different. They predict each other’s attacks so well that they both block most of them.

  • The lost packs   A call for war

*Amber* I run down to Adis, with Tjeck following behind. I might be fussing just a bit over Adis while Kress takes care of his injuries. "Hey, you know the upside to losing Adis?" Tjeck asks, smiling down at him. "You get to have the full attention of beautiful she-wolves fussing over you." Kattie has been fussing over him a great deal too. "Yeah, sorry, but I'm not sure that counts when you already have the full attention of said beautiful she-wolves," Kress tells him, gently moving me out of his way so he can get on with his work. "Adis is done in the ring for today," Kress announces. "And he might not be worth much tonight either." He winks at me. "Oh, it's never going to be that bad," Adis laughs and manages to sit up. Tjeck and Kress help him over to sit on the first row of benches, and I quickly move beside him, putting my arm around him. "I'm okay, baby," Adis smiles at me. We watch as Tjeck and Kress get into the ring, each holding a microphone. Tjeck takes the floor. "

  • The lost packs   Tjeck vs. Thorn

*Amber* Tjeck and Thorn face off in the first fight. While the band plays, it is possible to bet money on the result, and they spend the time warming up a bit in front of the ring. Adis, Kattie, Drew, and I stand on the floor down in front of the ring. The band packs up as Tjeck and Thorn step into the ring. Everyone goes silent, as if the entire audience is holding its breath. But when the fight starts, people begin whistling and cheering, and the noise level explodes. I have seen Tjeck in the ring before, of course, but only during training and never against Thorn. Their every movement is so fast and precise that it looks like something they have rehearsed. It is impossible to count how many times they strike each other, but they just keep going as if they don't even feel it. I feel my heart hammering in my throat; it is impressive to see the speed, strength, and tactical knowledge they both possess. But on the other hand, it is my twin brother fighting my... well, what is Tjeck
