The man behind the Artistic smile

The very Beginning

Illuminating lights and decorations along with the smell of the wine and alcohol was creating an ambiance in the grand mansion of Florence. Today is the 75th birthday of Lord Campbell. All of his grandchildren and relatives surround him with expensively wrapped gifts and presents.

He managed to survive a heart stroke just recently at this age so this birthday party is for the celebration of it. Lord Campbell was sitting in the wheelchair and all of his grandchildren surrounds him.

'' Grandpa, this is for you, I brought this Ginseng root a medicinal herb which is found in forests throughout much of the northern and easter united states. It will be good for your health ''.

'' Grandpa, I brought this Unkei this is a Japanese sculptor of the Kei school. I know that you are fond of sculptors so I brought this for you ''. Looking at the expensive-looking gifts Lord Campbell smiled happily than ever.

'' This must have cost you a lot, I had wanted to get this for a while ''. '' Only fifty million dollars it's no big deal. This is a showcase of my love and admiration for you, I hope you will get well in the future '' said Steven Benett, the husband of the eldest granddaughter of lord Campbell Olivia.

'' My good son-in-law '' exclaimed Lord Campbell.

'' Grandpa, look what David has brought for you, this is a Blue Diamond  '' remarks Julia the second granddaughter or lord Campbell.

'' Oh my, this must-have be expensive '' asserts lord Campbell taking the box in his hands. '' It's only worth some three-point ninety-three million per carat so it's only over sixty thousand million dollars. It's not a big deal considering what job I do. This is my gratitude and love for you grandpa '' said David Foster with a sadistic smile on his face as he had won the war. David is the fiancee of Julia who's gonna get married to her in the future.

Gray, the middle grandson of lord Campbell got irritated with this. He flickered his tongue and stepped forward with a happy smile on his face. '' Grandpa, take this I hope you will like it '' he gave it to him. It was a bouquet of Orchids, Lilies, Moonflowers, and Root of 100-year-old ficus.

'' This can be called the most expensive flowers of all time '' says Lord Campbell. '' Not quite right grandpa this only costs around one hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Not quite expensive to what others gave to you. Aren't I right? brother David? '' Gray remarks with a grin on his face his lips turned into a curly smile.

Why did you had to do this Gray? is this to make you seem superior to me?. David's face turned into a frown. At this time Steven who had brought herbal root was feeling humiliated all of a sudden.

Then came the fourth grandson of lord Campbell Hughes who works under lord Campbell.  He had a lovely smile on his face. '' GRandpa, I know that you are fond of neckties so I brought the most expensive one in the world. This is The Sushi necktie which costs around twenty-five hundred thousand million dollars ''.

All of their eyes went straight at it. Hughes was trying to say that '' Even if I am not married yet still, I presented the most expensive thing of all ''. This irritated all the other relatives and other grandchildren there.

All of a sudden Robin Bradley who was married to the youngest granddaughter Lucy steps forward and says '' Grandpa, I brought this painting a portrait of you. I hope you like it ''. Lord Campbell gets angry over this.

All of a sudden the happy smile turned into an angry face. '' Hey, Robin you must be kidding right? why would grandpa like this painting out of all the other things that we had given to him? '' mocks Hughes in a sarcastic tone.

'' But I thought that he will like this painting after all this is his portrait. Why don't you like this grandpa? '' Robin asks with a plain face. '' Who would like your cheap paintings? I can buy a painting a hundred times better than this you know? '' retorts Lord Campbell.

'' Yeah, grandpa you can buy a dozen of expensive paintings with the money you have. Throw this painting away '' says Olivia. '' Yes throw it away dad '' said Gray. Lord Campbell eventually threw it away in the ground and stepped onto it.

Lucy who was standing in the corner comes forward and pulls Robin away from there. ' I am sorry in his stead everyone '' she apologizes bowing down in front of them. '' Lucy, teach your husband some manners tell him not to pull some clownish tricks in front of all the people here '' snarled Julia mocking her.

'' Who would like his garbage and cheap paintings in his right mind? I can't even put this in my toilet '' retorts Hughes with a straight face. They all start laughing at him. '' This is a trash painting Lucy tell your husband to bring something worthwhile for grandpa '' Gray asserts with a smirk on his face.

Robin who was standing there looking down onto his feet was feeling insulted. Lord Campbell had thrown this on the ground and kicked it with his feet. '' Let's burn this '' said Isabella the wife of Gray along with her husband.

'' No please don't '' Robin pleads. '' Yes, we will you won't be able to sell this cheap painting anywhere you know Robin? you know what I will do mercy on you and buy your paintings for you and give it to them for charity isn't that great? '' HUges asserts while smirking at him with eyes of pity.

'' I feel ashamed of you , you are worthless and penniless. Why do I have to feed you and let you continue with your useless acts? huh ? '' snarled and growled Lord Campbell. Robin stayed silent. '' You know Robin you can work as a clown and entertain me I will pay you for it you know? rather than painting it will be some good job or you can be servant '' Gray asserts.

'' No I want to hire him for him, rather than doing some useless act like the painting you can work as my assistants and my servant, don't worry I will pay you some handsome reward for that some dollars per month '' said Hughes.

Robin stayed silent he had to bear with all the insults and ridicules. Robin looks over at his wife Lucy who adverts her gaze away from him after giving him a long face. After all what else could she do about it? she is staying in this house along with her husband who doesn't earn anything in a month.

As a result, she had to bear with all the insults that her family used to do to him. She hated the fact that they insulted him for everything along with her as her father was the least favored by her grandpa and despised of all.

Just because her father used to spend all the money that grandpa gave to him on gambling even though her grandfather had told him not to do it but he used to gamble and he had spent a huge amount of money in gambling.

As a result, her grandpa got angry and from that point, he stopped giving any money to his son. After he had married her mother without her grandpa's will he got angry at him even more. No one in the family likes Lucy and her dad and mom.

Robin is the exception no one likes him in the family only except Lucy who is still treated like him as a person.

'' Clean up the trash Robin '' Huges points to the painting which was now rolling into the ground stepped on by lord Campbell and others. '' Do it Robin or else there will be no dinner for you and your wife and all '' said Julia.

'' Yes do it Robin '' commands Hughes. Lord Campbell was also smiling and laughing making fun of Robin. Robin looked at Lucy but she averts her face away from him. '' What else could she even do? after all, she did not fault it ?''.

It was a forced and arranged marriage without any kind of love for each other. Lady Campbell brought Robin one day out of nowhere and wanted to get him married to one of the granddaughters and Lucy was chosen as his wife.

Neither Robin nor Lucy was happy with this marriage. Robin always tried to keep a low profile in the household doing chores and all. He always tries to support his wife. But she still gets insulted because of him.

Robin was feeling humiliated. Why are the Campbells so mean to people with no wealth or social status? It's not their fault at all it's their upbringing that's at fault.

Those who are at the top of social standard looks down on the people who have no fame or power or wealth. In their eyes, Robin's presence was like an insect. Whether he stayed in this house or whether he's alive or whether he's breathing nothing matters to them.

What matters to them only is money, they only know money. No matter whether it's a relation or love or feel nothing matters them they care about money only.

Lucy felt enough humiliated to see her husband being treated like garbage and trash. She clenched her fists tightly and gritted her teeth. Even though there was no love in it he is her husband why did they had to treat him like that?

He always keeps a cool demeanor around himself as he doesn't care about all the insults done to him but that's not true even she knows that. As he doesn't work Lucy has to work in his stead.

Wish she could help him. He does all the household chores without saying anything and always receives insults in return. Just why? what's wrong with this system?

Just because he doesn't earn anything he always has to bear all of these insults. Whether it's her husband or her family everyone hates her and her family. As a result, they are not allowed to stay in the royal mansion instead they live in a poor rundown house a little bit away from the big mansion.

Robin understood that as he doesn't earn anything at all he has to swallow up all the insults and go forward in life. After all of those years of staying in this house, learned that you can expect no kindness from these Campbells.

Putting away his petty pride he inhaled some air then sighs. The fragrant smell of the flowers and perfumes calmed him down and he cleared his head from thought. He had put on a smile which st s gathered the torn painting which was stepped on by others. Took it in his hands then got up and said '' I am grateful that you liked it so much that you wanted to step on it ''. He left the scene to throw it away.

Lucy wanted to call him back but then lord Campbell instructs her '' Don't go after that lost dog he doesn't earn a single penny so he deserves that. If you go after him you are disqualified as my granddaughter. Why did your grandma have to bring him into this house and told me to promise her that he will get married to my family? That was a wrong decision of mine ''.

'' If you want to you still can divorce him and get married to some other rich man who will be beneficial for our family and business. You have enough beauty to attract good men to yourself you know? know your worth in time or else you will be daily insulted like this '' his tone was obvious that he wanted them to get separated long ago.

Lucy faced him and held her head high and said '' No, grandpa there is no way I can do that. Grandma chose him for me. I won't leave him like that. And that's the final answer that' why I bear with all the insults. I believe in the granma's decision ''.

Everyone was shocked by her way of words. Lord Campbell was angry hearing that his face became red with anger. '' Get out of my face right this instant ''  he bellowed.
