Dara hurriedly got up from her bed and took out her drawing pad from her bag. She tried to remember the face of that boy whom she saw in her dream but couldn’t. “Why can’t I remember his face?” she thought. She remembered everything about her dream except for his face. “Was that actually Wade?” her eyes filled with tears when she thought this.
She closed her drawing pad and gasped, “That was just a dream after all.” She got up from her bed and went upstairs for her breakfast. “Good morning everyone.” she entered the dining room.
“Good morning sunflower!” Stephen greeted.
“Honey, come have some pancakes.” Ellen called Dara.
Dara sat on the chair with a pancake in her plate. “Ummmmm…” she expressed, “These are extra delicious.”
“How are you feeling today honey?” Ellen asked.
“I’m good Mom.” Dara told, “Just had a crazy dream last night.”
“Well, I’m glad you’re not imagining things today.” Greg smiled.
“Imagining things?” Dara inspected.
“Have you seen someone again in your room?” Greg asked.
“No…no I haven’t.” Dara looked confused.
“We told you not to overthink and see today you’re absolutely fine flower.” uttered Stephen.
“Ye…yeah! I think so.” Dara gave a mock smile. “That was all real. I wasn’t asleep.” she thought, “No this can’t be true.” Dara was so confused. How could this happen? “I think I really am overthinking.”
After finishing her breakfast, she got up and went to her room to get ready for school. She still couldn’t remember the face of that boy. She opened her diary and started to write;
“Dear Wade;
Last night was strange. Yesterday, I kept on seeing a boy. I fainted. When I came back to my senses, he was there. It was you Wade. It was really you. But the next morning when I woke up, I found it to be a dream. When I was at the table for breakfast, I came to know that I had actually fainted and that I actually saw someone in my room which my family told I was imagining. All that felt so real but it also felt like a dream. I can’t remember the face of that boy but I know it was you. Well, today is my first day here of school. Wish me luck. I hope to find you today love.”
She put her diary back to where it was and got up to brush her teeth. While brushing she thought of the dream she had. “This is so confusing.” she thought, “What if it actually was Wade? But why can’t I remember his face?”
After brushing, she went back to her room towards the closet, “So what should I wear?” As on her first week of school she had to look perfect. “I think this shirt will look perfect.” She wore a dress shirt with a pair of blue shorts. She put her brown wig on and made a ponytail with the fringe of the wig resting on her head. “I still do look like a nerd.” She gasped while looking in the mirror.
“Dear are you ready yet?” Ellen gave her a voice from upstairs.
“Yeah Mom I’ll be up in a bit.” Dara replied and grabbed her backpack. She moved out from the room and suddenly remembered that she had forgotten her mirror in the room. She rushed back to her room, grabbed the mirror and ran towards the gate while uttering, “Good bye Mom! Goodbye Dad! I love you!”
Stephen was at the gate on his wheelchair waiting for Dara. “O sunflower I like the new look.” They both hugged.
“Well, I hope everyone does.” Dara smiled.
“I’m sure everyone will.” he smirked, “So excited for your first day?”
“As excited one can ever be.”
“Hop in the car young lady and best of luck for your day.”
“Thanks granddad. I love you!” she hugged her grandfather and got in the white limousine.
Her school wasn’t far from home. She reached there in about ten minutes. The car stopped in front of the school gate. She took a deep breath and gasped, “A new beginning.”
There were a lot of kids there; black, brown, red, all colors. When they saw the white long car stopping on the front of the gate, they all stopped at their places and started to stare. As Dara’s grandfather was the richest on the island, all the kids wanted to meet the new student who belonged to the Garland’s house.
Dara opened the door of the car and stepped out. As the bullies never stop, a kid kicked soccer ball at Dara but as she was fast in her senses, she managed to catch it. Students were shocked at the stunt. Dara moved a little further and turned to her left. This was where the ball came from. She moved and walked towards the student who threw the ball.
“I think this belongs to you.” Dara showed him the ball.
“It wasn’t me.” he replied.
“I know it was you but anyways if you don’t need it I’ll just throw it away.” she uttered and turned around.
“Okay I’ll take it.” the boy said from behind. He took the ball from Dara’s hands and murmured, “Weirdo.”
Dara didn’t like it. “I need to be in my attitude and pretend not to care.” She moved further. Her eyes got caught on a guy wearing a black mask. He had black eyes and hair. He was a smart tall boy standing alone and not bothering to even look at anyone.
“Hey there!” three girls came to Dara.
“Hi!” Dara replied.
“Are you from the Garland’s house?” one of the girl asked.
“Well yeah.” Dara told, “You see, Stephen Garland is my grandfather.”
“So you live in the Garland’s house?” another girl asked.
“Yeah!”
“But why haven’t anyone seen you before.” the first girl asked.
“I just came two days ago from Chicago.” Dara told.
“Oh I almost forgot to tell…” one of the girls spoke, “I am Sitara, she is Miranda and she is Sarah.”
“I’m Dara by the way. It was nice meeting you people.” Dara spoke and moved inside the school building. “Hmmm…where can I find my rack?” she thought.
“Need some help rich lady.” a boy spoke from behind.
Dara turned around. There was a lad standing with dark curly hair and freckles. “I need to find my rack. It’ll be a pleasure if you can help.” she said.
“Follow me.” the boy started to move. Dara moved beside him. “So you came here from Chicago?” he asked her.
“Yeah but how’d you know?” Dara got shocked.
“You were telling to some girls outside. That’s where I heard it.” he told.
“Hmmm…”
“So here’s your rack.” the boy stopped and pointed on Dara’s rack. “Thank me later.” He smiled and winked at Dara and moved away. “By the way my name’s William” he said in a loud voice from behind, “But you can call me Will.”
“I’m Dara.” she told.
The school bell rang.
“Meet you at lunch break gorgeous.” he winked again and moved towards his classroom.
Dara went to her class too.
“Class she is your new class mate named Dara Garland. I want you all to be nice to her and show her around.” the teacher introduced Dara to the class. William was in the same class and so was that boy which Dara saw standing alone outside on the school ground.
“What’s the matter with this guy. Why can’t I sense what he’s feeling?” Dara thought. She got a chair just next to that boy because all the other chairs were full. “Hey there I’m Dara.” Dara showed her hand to shake. He only looked at her and ignored. Dara held her hand away and started to focus of the lecture.
“I need to find Wade.” she thought, “But how am I going to find him?”
After some long periods, the bell rang. It was the lunch break. Dara went to the recess room.
“Hey there beautiful!” William waved at her, “Come sit with us.” He invited her to sit with him and his friends. Dara went there. “This is Stacy, this is Lenny and this is Sabrina.” he introduced his friends to Dara, “And guys this is Dara. She’s new here.”
They all talked but Dara seemed absent. “What’s the matter?” William asked.
“Nothing.” Dara mocked. Her eyes got caught on that boy again. He was walking through the recess room. “What’s up with him?” Dara asked.
“He’s just a Jerk. Try to stay away from him.” Sabrina told.
“Have you seen my brother?” a girl walked in their talk with a photo of her little brother.
“Get the hell out Ashley. It’s been a week now and no one could find him.” Lenny spoke.
Dara took the photo from Ashley’s hands. “I bet he’s dead somewhere.” William snatched the photo and gave it back to Ashley.
Dara could feel something. She could feel that she knew where Ashley’s brother was. “I know where he is.” she stood up and said in a loud voice. The whole room went quiet. There was silence in the room and then suddenly everyone started to laugh.
Dara looked at everyone and felt ashamed because of them laughing at her. She ran outside the room and William ran after her. “Dara stop!”
“I need to go to the toilet.” Dara lied.
“Okay girl. I’m waiting in the ground.” William told her.
Dara continued walking. There was no one in the hallway. Suddenly she heard some footsteps. She followed the voices. It was that boy with the mask again.
“Listen.” Dara called him.
He looked at Dara and started to walk a bit faster.
“Stop!” Dara ran after him. She got hit by Ashley. “I…I’m so sorry.” Dara apologized.
“No it’s okay. I was the one in a hurry.” Ashley replied.
“Can I see your brother’s photo again?” Dara asked.
Ashley showed Dara her brother’s photo. Dara could see visions appearing before her eyes. She looked up at Ashley and said, “I want you to believe what I’m going to tell you. I think I know where he is. Where ever he is, he looks scared. We need to find him quick.”
“But how’d you know?”
“I don’t know. I just know things. Well, does it matter? What matters is that we have to find your brother as soon as possible.” The bell rang. Lunch break got over. “Meet me at my house after school and I’ll help as much as I can.” saying this Dara went to her class.
Dara came back to her seat. That boy wasn’t there. “Where is he?” time passed but he still wasn’t there. William came and sat beside Dara. He teased her during the lectures and the boring day turned into a pile of fun and laughter. On the last period, that boy showed up. William rolled his eyes and got up from his chair. That boy sat beside Dara. “Where have you been?” she asked. He ignored her and only peeped outside the window. “Why is he like this?” Dara thought. She tried to focus on her lectures but could not. There were many things popping in her head. She wasn’t thinking about Wade. She was thinking about what wrong had happened to that boy. Meanwhile in a period while the teacher was out a boy threw a pencil from behind towards that boy’s head. It hit him on his head. Some of the students started to laugh. “Stop it!” Dara got up from her chair, turned around and yelled. It was silences in the class. Everyone stuck at their place. Dara then sat back on her chair.
Dara reached home. Stephen was in the garden with Ellen.“Dara, where have you been?” Ellen looked worried, “And what is all that dirt on your clothes?”“I…I have been playing.” Dara lied.“Have you been to the woods?” Stephen asked.“No…no Grandpa.” Dara lied again, “I got a new friend today. Her name’s Ashley. We were at the park near her house.”“Good. Its better you stay away from the woods.” Stephen spoke.“Ashley told me that the woods are filled with wolves.” Dara uttered.“Those woods are deadly. You really do need to stay away from that part of the island.” Stephen said while gasping a big breath, “Her brother got lost a week ago. I hope she and her mother manage to bare the loss.”“Honey you should go get something to eat.” Ellen spoke.“Sure Mom.” Dara smiled and moved towards the entrance door.“And get yourself cleaned.” Ellen said from behind her.Dara went in the house and directly went to her bedroom.
Dara ran and ran to make her way out from the jungle. She could see nothing but the big trees all around. “Can anyone here me?” she screamed but there was no one who heard her.She suddenly felt something running behind her. She quickly turned around. There was nothing there. She felt it again and soon she could see something running in the woods. It was black and huge. “Stop!” Dara ran towards that thing. It was the same thing she had been seeing in her dreams. That thing stopped and Dara went close to it. She went closer and closer. It was dark, hairy and big. It was huge. She could hear it groan. She went closer. She was scared but at the same time she wanted to see what that thing was. It was huge and sounded fierce. “What are you?” Dara asked in a scared tone from behind. It turned around.“Uh…” Dara’s eyes opened. Her head felt dizzy. She moved her hands towards her head and suddenly saw blood on them. She got up with a scream.“Is everything alright?”
During the class, Dara couldn’t focus on her lecture. The flash backs appeared before her eyes again and again. She could hear that boy scream for help and beg for life. This was like a thunder on her.The bell rang.“Finally!” Dara exclaimed.“Dara…” Charles held Dara’s hand, “Be brave.”“Come on let’s get you home.” William spoke from behind.Dara turned to William and then turned back to Charles to say him goodbye but he wasn’t there.“Have you lost something?” William asked.“No…” Dara looked puzzled, “Let’s go home.”They both walked outside the school.“Aren’t you coming Will?” Stacy gave William a voice from her car. Lenny and Sabrina were also in the car.“I’ll catch up with you guys later.” saying this William moved further with Dara. They walked along with the bicycle.“What happened beautiful?” he asked her along the way.“I don’t know. Everything’s strange here…” Dara was about to tell him ever
Dara moved here and there on her bed but couldn’t sleep. Her eyes remained open. She was feeling hungry. She got up and sat on her bed. She started to think about her time with William. Her stomach gave a sound, “Huh I should not be going to the kitchen in the middle of the night.”She got up and gazed outside the window. She stared at the big round shinny moon in the sky. It looked as beautiful as anything could be. She opened the window to let the cool fresh air come inside. She stared at the moon and cared about nothing. She started to feel strange. Her head started getting dizzy. Her nails started to grow. She could feel her bones moving and changing their places. She could feel hair grow on her skin. She didn’t know what to do. She turned to the mirror and saw hair grow all over her body. She saw her clothes tearing off. She was scared. It was painful but ticklish too. She saw herself turning into a wolf. She was big. She was huge. She was all covered with dark hair
“My room’s messed up. I need to clean it up.”Dara went upstairs to ask the maid help her clean her room, “I was wondering if you could help me clean my room.”“Sure Dara. Just let me finishes the dishes and I’m there.” the maid replied.Dara came back to her room and lay down on her bed. She pulled the pillow towards her to cuddle it and she saw her diary under it. She picked it up, “It’s no use writing this anymore.” She put it in a small plastic bag with the mirror and the cards too which were in her study table.“Your room’s really a mess.” the maid entered.“Well I suppose it is.” Dara smiled while putting the bag in her side drawer. The maid went to the bed and started sorting out the bed sheet.“Let me help you with that.” Dara uttered while sorting out the other side of the bed.“No it’s okay.” the maid uttered, “You should go get ready for the funeral while I clean your room. Your grandfather’s not expecting you to be late.”
Dara walked in the school hallway. She was finding William. “Where is he?” she thought. Someone tightly grabbed her from behind and whispered in her ear, “Dara I’m here. I came back for you cookie.”“Wade!” Dara woke up with a shock, “Oh it was a dream.” She looked beside her but Charles wasn’t there. She got up and knocked at the bathroom door, “Charles, are you inside?” She got no answer and then she decided to go inside. She slowly opened the door. “I’m coming inside.” she chuckled. No one was there. “Hmmm I suppose he left earlier.”She brushed her teeth and changed her clothes. She put on her wig in front of the mirror. She looked at herself thinking about what Charles told her last night that she was beautiful. She took it off, “I don’t want to hide myself anymore.”She went upstairs for her breakfast. There was some kind of change in her mood today. She went to the dining room and waited for her grandfather. After a few minutes Stephen entered the dining roo
Dara rushed to her bathroom as soon as Charles got out from her room. “I know we’re going to have something special between us today.” she smiled while washing her face. “He asked me to get ready. What should I wear?” Dara murmured as she searched her closet. She picked out a gorgeous short red colored dress. It was made up of beautiful red colored net. It was reached till her thighs. She took out a pair of black underwear and black colored braziers. “I hope he’ll like me in red and black.” she uttered while getting undress. She wore her undergarments and then that red dress. Her cleverage could be clearly seen in that dress. She put on some mascara, some blush on and maroon lipstick. She tied the hair of her wig in a high messy bun. “I do look good enough I think.” she checked herself in the mirror. She looked sexier than ever. She took a photo of herself and sent it to William. “I’m all ready for you hon.” she texted him.“Wow is that for me. Just turning your street.” he te
