CHAPTER 3

  ARTEMIS' POV:-

How I knew that was a howl, well, as I said before, my mom used to read me stories. Her stories were never a prince and princess story, staring towards their happily ever after. Her stories were always about scary things. Not that scary actually. They used to be around the night fantasy. That was what I used to call it. But she always called her supernatural. Call me superstitious, but I kinda love these stories. They used to make me feel safe and strong too. Those stories were my past and I loved the world my mom had created for me. It was warm and the best place for me to hide.

Anyways, as I was telling, from my mom's stories, I knew it was a howl. A howl of a wolf. She used to tell me stories about werewolves too. But are werewolves not wolves as well? They are the same things. Werewolves are not real while wolves are real. The howl was loud enough to scare the hell out of me. I could imagine the size of the wolf that might be in the cemetery. According to my calculations, he was bigger. And these cemeteries were very well known with these wolf attacks. The disturbing news was, it always happened once in a whole month. Just one night. I never understood why.

I quickly stood up and started running towards the gates of the cemetery. I wanted to get the hell out of there. I did not want to be eaten by a wolf that night. Or who knew, maybe there were more than just one wolf. As it happens in a horror movie, where a girl is running on the road and a stone suddenly comes in her way. She gets her foot banged with the stone and falls down on the ground. Well, technically, that happened to me as well. But I did not fall down. Remember, I was a trained taekwondo student. I was soon going to get my black belt.

Anyways, I did not fall down, so be at ease. So what happened to me, I was running like a terrified little mouse. Looking around if I could see anyone. But I was not able to see anything or anyone. But I could hear them. And as I had suspected, it was not just one big wolf. There were many. As the sounds were telling me. The only way I knew to save myself was to get home. So I ran as fast as I could. I ran almost a mile. Then something big and furry jumped in front of me, blocking my way to the gates of the cemetery.

It was huge, bigger than my calculations. So yeah, I am dumb. His fur was black as the thick dark night. His eyes were glowing red. His teeth had blood all over. A sign that he already had someone as his dinner. And now it was my turn to become his and his family's dinner. Something I was really not ready for. I was not that easy to take. I unzipped my bag and grabbed the nunchucks from my bag. I always kept them in my bag. I always walked back home late at night. I needed something to protect myself from everything evil. So blame me. Well, I don't care at all.

I dropped my bag on the ground and swang the nunchucks in style. "Yeah bitches! I am not ready to become your dinner. You want me, I am not going down without a fight. SO COME ON!" I yelled at the big black wolf that was growling at me. A short brown wolf from behind attacked me. It might have thought that I was looking away so it could take me. Well, not your lucky day, bitch. I swang my hand and the other end of the nunchucks collided with the brown wolf's forehead. Whimpering in pain, it fell down on the ground. I swang the nunchucks again to scare them. But, they were not dogs.

I knew scaring them was not that easy. I knew I had to try hard. Another wolf from my right hand, it lunged itself on me. It was not huge but it was black, just like the big wolf. I punched it's jaw hard. Then I swung the nunchucks again and hit its ribs. I heard a loud crack as the nunchucks collided with its ribs. I knew I might have broken its ribs. It fell on the ground with a loud thud and howled loudly in pain. To my surprise, my mom was right. The howl of pain was the worst. That howl could burst our brain. It literally felt that way.

"Are two enough, or do you all want to die? Because trust me bitches. I am not scared of you all. Bring it on. COME ON!!!" I yelled at them again and looked at the big black wolf. My heart skipped a beat or two when I saw what happened next. I was staring in the eyes of the big black wolf. And just as I yelled at him, I swear I saw him smirking at me. I knew what I saw. I was not drunk. I never took drugs in my life. And also I have never been around any addicts either. So I was not hallucinating. I literally saw him smirking at me. And it looked more like a proud smirk. I was confused as to why he had a proud smirk on his face.

It did not take me a long time to figure that part out. Because the next moment, all the wolves attacked me at once. My nunchucks were snatched away from my hands. And they were thrown far away from my reach. I tried using all my strength to free myself. But they were too many and too heavy for me. They all set their front paws on my hands and my legs to keep me pinned with the ground. As for the big black wolf, he slowly came towards me. I was breathing heavily as I could see my death dancing on my head. But at least, they did not get me easily.

I wanted to close my eyes as the big black wolf leaned his head in. But I did not. It used its one paw to tilt my head. Actually, to expose my neck for himself. It turned its head up again and howled loudly. It opened its big and scary mouth and leaned in again towards my neck. I screamed as loudly as I could when I felt it's big sharp teeth on my neck. I was waiting for an unbearable pain to endure. But instead, something else happened. I heard a bigger, louder and more dominating howl. It was from afar. I saw the big black wolf growled as it raised its head to see where the howl came from.
