Chapter sixty four.

Evelyn's POV.

I couldn't help but ask, "Hate who?"

Alex's face was twisted in anger, but he remained silent. My eyes darted between the both of them.

“Answer me!”

I stood there, trying to play it cool as Alex dropped the bombshell: "My crush."

I muttered a casual "Ohhhh," but inside, I felt a pang of hurt that I couldn't shake off. Why was I feeling this way? I shouldn't be.

Alex had the right to have feelings for someone, and I didn't have a claim on him. But the pain in my chest lingered, refusing to be ignored.

I tried to tell myself I didn't care, that I wasn't invested in Alex's love life. But the ache persisted, making me wonder if I was lying to myself.

I was snapped back to reality when Alex's words cut through the air, his voice laced with anger and hurt.

"I don't know which is crazier, the fact that your father framed my father and pinned it on someone else, or the fact that you knew and hid it from me," he barked.

Lucas looked taken aback, his expres

Chapter sixty five.Evelyn's POV.As I reached the doorway, I froze, my eyes widening in shock as I took in Alex's appearance.“Oh my gosh!”I stumbled backwards, my eyes fixed on Alex in shock. "A...Alex," I stuttered, and he smiled. I blinked twice, pinching myself to see if it was just a dream, but he was still standing there, smiling at me.He was standing without his wheelchair, his eyes sparkling with a mix of pain and determination.Without thinking, I rushed to hug him, and he wrapped his arms around me, holding me tight. I felt a surge of emotions as I held him, and for a moment, everything else faded away. But as I came back to my senses, I quickly pulled away, feeling a little embarrassed. "So...sorry," I mumbled.Alex chuckled and said, "Come on." His eyes locked onto mine, and I asked, "How did this happen? How did you...?" He took a deep breath, his voice filled with emotion. "Maybe I needed the anger and pain to stand on my feet and walk. Maybe I was tired of drowni

  • The return of the Heiress    chapter sixty three

Chapter sixty three.Evelyn’s POV.I paced around the sitting room, my arms wrapped tightly around my chest. "Alex, can you just tell me who did this?" He asked, his patience wearing thin.I stopped pacing and turned to me. "Just a little bit of patience. Once Lucas is here, I'll reveal it," I said, my tone calm.He groaned in frustration. "Why do we have to wait for Lucas to come?" He asked, his voice laced with curiosity. "He's relevant to this," I said, my eyes locked onto him.“What?!” He gasped and I slowly nodded, Alex's eyes widened in surprise."Like my friend Lucas is involved?" he asked again, his tone laced with skepticism. Before I could respond, the door burst open and Lucas walked in, his eyes darting between me and Alex. "What's going on?" he asked, his voice firm.Alex shrugged. "I don't know, I'm waiting for her."Lucas nodded, his eyes fixed intently on me. I took a deep breath and asked, "What's your father's relationship with my father?"Lucas's expression turne

Chapter sixty two.Alex's POV.My gaze was fixed on Lucas, and I couldn't help but notice the way his eyes lingered on Evelyn as she walked away with a smile. I rolled my eyes in disgust, clearing my throat to snap him back to attention. His eyes darted back to me, and his smile faltered."How's your health?" he asked, his tone attempting to be concerned.Or maybe he's concerned. "Getting better," I replied. "If I continue on this path, I should be out of this wheelchair in two days' time."Lucas nodded, forcing a smile. "That's great," he said.I raised an eyebrow, my gaze still fixed on him. "You don't stay in the office for long anymore. Hope all is good?" I asked, my tone laced with subtle skepticism.Lucas's expression seemed genuine, but I detected a hint of underlying tension. "Well, I just wanted to check up on you," he said, his tone, casual."I'm fine," I replied, a hint of sarcasm in my voice. "I have Evelyn to take care of me.""I can see that. Finally, you have her by

Chapter sixty one. Evelyn’s POV. I groggily turned over, my hands brushing against something unexpected on my bed. I groaned, slowly opening my eyes to find myself surrounded by not one or two, but dozens of Rolex wristwatches. I sat up with a jolt, my gaze darting around the room to confirm the surreal sight. Fifty Rolex watches stared back at me, their sleek faces glinting in the light. I blinked twice, wondering if I was still dreaming, but the watches remained. I pinched myself, wincing in pain. This was real. What the heck was going on? "Do you like them?" I turned to face Alex, and that's when I realized he was in the room all along. He was sitting in his wheelchair, positioned at the door entrance, staring at me with an unreadable expression. "Wa…wait, you brought all of these?" I asked, my eyes widening in surprise. He nodded, wheeling his chair closer to me. "Who else would have?" he replied, his tone matter-of-fact. I stood up, a chuckle escaping my lips.

Chapter sixty.Evelyn's POV."Let's grab dinner before heading home," he suggested, his eyes locking onto mine. I glanced at my watch, but he chimed in, "Come on, we still have time." I hesitated, not wanting to drive home late, but he added with a charming smile, "I'm hungry, please?" My resolve softened as I met his gaze, and I eventually nodded. We headed to a five-star restaurant, where I took a seat by the window. When the waiter arrived, I ordered, and Alex said, "Same as hers," his voice low and smooth. The waiter nodded and left. As I looked up, I caught Alex staring at me, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “What?!” I blurted out as I I felt my cheeks flush, and he chuckled."Can I not admire the beauty in front of me?" My heart skipped a beat. I didn't want to feel this way, but my body betrayed me, butterflies dancing in my stomach.“What is life like, without Ethan?” The question caught me off guard, and I hesitated, unsure how to respond.
