When Aria Ashwood wins a rare scholarship to Blackthorn Academy, she believes it's her only chance to escape poverty and build a better future. But Blackthorn isn't just like any other ordinary schools. It is a prestigious academy where witches, werewolves, vampires, and other supernatural heirs are trained. Aria arrives with a dangerous secret: she is a witch with absolutely no magic. In a world where the weak are preyed upon, her only survival strategy is to stay completely invisible. She tries everything possible to stay invisible but she soon finds herself caught between two powerful rivals. Kael Nightbane, the arrogant werewolf prince destined to lead the strongest pack in the realm, sees her as a threat he can't ignore. Lucien Vale, the charming vampire heir with a reputation for breaking hearts, seems determined to uncover every secret she hides. When students begin vanishing from the campus, a dark conspiracy surfaces—one that directly connects Aria's missing magic to a threat capable of destroying the supernatural world. With danger closing in, loyalty becoming impossible, and her heart torn between two enemies who would do anything to claim it, Aria must decide who she can trust before the academy's darkest secret consumes them all. But is falling in love really necessary? Because at Blackthorn Academy, falling in love could actually be the most dangerous mistake of all.

CHAPTER 1

ARIA'S POV

I stood in front of the huge building letting my gaze trail the entirety and taking in the magnimosity of the building. Blackthorn Academy, the school I had just won a scholarship to. I held my worn out leather bag that was straped on my shoulder tightly. I took a deep breath.

When compared to the others, my uniform was a total joke. It was a black knee length gown I had found at the drift shop downtown. The girls all wore pristine and well ironed pleated skirts that smelled of lavender. I felt out of place and i didn't need anybody to tell me that this not the kind of place for a girl my class.

“Oh my Gosh, take a look at that.“ A girl with blonde hair said loudly as she walked past me with her group of friends. “Did she step out of a trash bin?“ Her friends laughed and shook their heads.

“I think she is the scholarship case that was to be added here.“ another girl replied.

“Since when did they allow scholarship kids in here? Pathetic little things. I bet Kael is going to be mad.“

“Ohh, I will pay to watch his reaction on this one.“ They laughed and walked past, looking at me as though I was filth.

I kept my head up. I was not going to let their mockery faze me. I don't know why I was sent here but I will make sure to avoid all sorts of trouble. It felt like it was just yesterday that I and my Nana were sitted in the living room. She had reached forward to me with trembling hands

“I am so sorry that I can't explain why I am sending you away but you need to go. You are no longer safe among the humans.“ I had cried because I didn’t understand a thing about what was happening and why I needed to go away.

In the end, she had told me that 'Seraphine' was going to take care of me. And then had blindfolded me and put me into a black jeep that had gotten me here.

I pushed open the large oak doors that led into the lecture room. The lecture room was shaped like an amphitheater and it was just as magnificent as the rest of the building that I had seen so far.

I stood scanning the room. There were no empty seats at the back but a part of the front was empty. And it offered the best view of the podium. I walked briskly and took the seat, adjusting my self perfectly.

The entire lecture hall went dead silent.

All the talks and whispering from the students stopped. I thought a teacher had walked in.

"Hey. Trash."

A sharp high pitched voice called. I turned. A pretty petite girl of about my age stood there. She had long white hair.

"Me?" I asked, my voice flat.

"Is there any other garbage sitting in that chair?" she sneered, stepping down the aisle toward me. "I’m Ruby Bell. And you need to get your filthy, poverty-stricken hands off that desk and get on the floor where you belong."

“Well, I didn't see any name tag on the seat when I sat down. I will advise you go somewhere else to perch.“

A collective gasp echoed through the room. Ruby’s face flushed a deep red.

"You pathetic and rude church rat.“ Ruby hissed. She lifted her hand and it seemed to be glowing with something red. “Do you know who has that seat? Do you know who sits there?"

"I don't care if the Pope sits here," I shot back, staring directly at her glowing hand without flinching. "It's empty. Now leave me alone."

"It's my seat."

The voice didn't come from Ruby. It came from the doorway.

A tall, athletic dude with golden eyes that were shining stood at the door staring at us calmly. He had long dark hair that kept falling to his face giving him an extra hot look. He took his steps gently and intentionally coming closer to us.

"Kael!“ Ruby yelled out. “Look at this cheap scholarship trash that brought in her filthy self to sit on your seat. She even insulted and threatened me when I asked her to stand up.“

Lying to gain pity or is it attention? I sighed and shook my head casting her a pitiful look.

Kael didn't look at Ruby. His eyes were looking at me up till he walked and stood in front of me, his height towering over me especially in my seating position. I held my desk tightly and stared back.

“Get your pathetic ass off that chair!“

“What?“ I asked raising an eyebrow.

“You heard me the first time, get your filthy self out of my chair.“ He roared.

“There are other seats Sir. You won't die if you don't sit here, or would you?“ I replied calmly, acting totally oblivious to the fact that he was getting angry.

He leaned forward. Held the desk tightly. His eyes turned another shade of golden and the energy, in the hall changed right away. I glanced at his face then I checked my watch.

"Are you done constipating your face, or are you going to let me study?" I asked.

The entire Hall was silent. Not even a sound was heard. Ruby’s mouth was wide agape in shock and so was the other students'.

Kaels face was bright red and his knuckles were becoming pale from gripping the desk.

Some students sneaked out in fear. The glass windows rattled. I sat down not bothered by any of it.

“Wait, is that supposed to scare me? Cause if yes, then you are doing a very terrible job at it.“

“What did you just say to me?“ He growled. I saw a flash of fangs, actual wolf fangs which means that he is a werewolf. If that is true, does that mean that Nana sent me to a school for non humans? Like supernaturals?

I need to talk to someone, this place is too eery.

“Does your arrogance extend to your ears? Like are you deaf?“ I rolled my eyes. “Get a seat, Mr Shit-face. I am tired of looking at you.“

“How dare you talk to me that way!“ He growled. “Do you know who I am?“

“Like I said before, I don't care if you are the Pope, okay? So keep the details about who you are to yourself. I am not here because of you.“

“You just messed with the wrong person girl. I could snap your neck in front of the whole class and nobody would bat an eye.“ His voice had dropped to a low, threatening tone.

“what are you waiting for then? Go ahead and snap my head in front of everybody. Do it. Or I will just assume that you are lying.“

His hands tightened by his sides and folded into fists. His eyes had changed back into the flaming golden. There were murmurs. The students were scared, I could even see some sneaking out.

“Psshh, you are such a coward.“ I shook my head.

It was as if something had sparked inside him, he let out an angry growl and I could see fang-like teeth in his mouth. He was actually a werewolf, and now, everybody stood waiting to see what this werewolf was about to do to the girl who had just stood against him.
